Default How much Pearl Ex...

do you mix with your hairspray? I've got a 6.5 oz. bottle of good ol' Suave here and when I spray my cardstock I barely see the Spring Green shimmer of the Pearl Ex. Is that how it is supposed to look or do I need to add more powder? I guess I was expecting a more WOW effect than I got - maybe that's just it and I shouldn't be expecting more. Help me!!

hi Kari- I use a 2 oz spray bottle- add about 1/4 teaspoon- It sounds like you need to add about 1 more teaspoon to that much hair spray- I would have about 4 diff colormuixtures with that. If you let it settle- you can still make up other colors
I mix 2 oz spray bottle with some alcohol too- keeps it from clogging!
You have to shake it up before each use. I found the little spray bottles at a 99 cent store- if it clogs- I just throw it away!(course I keep the liquid)

I also sray a bunch at one time on black and white cardstock- then i have it dry and ready for any of my projects!happy playing! d

I just keep adding until I like the results!! Different colored paper makes a difference on how they look as well.

Default pearl ex spray with gum arabic

You can also make a spray of Pearl Ex, powdered gum arabic and water...this will make your CS shimmer (I don't care for hairspray smell, or the stickiness of it!). Also try inking up a bold stamp, hold arms length away and spray with the mixture to get a watercolory-shimmery look. Pearl Ex Aztec Gold is a good color for any image.
Let me know if you want the mixture for this and I will dig it up!

Default Pearl Ex Gold Spray - COOL!

Pearl Ex Gold Spray Recipe

1 oz. water
1/4 tsp. powdered gum arabic
1/2 tsp. Aztec Gold Pearl Ex powder

Put into a 2 oz. spray mist bottle (shake well) and spray your inked or markered stamp before stamping (hold an arms length away) - you will see a halo of gold sparkle on the colors of your stamped image. You can also spray DTP for a sparkly background of color!

I got this recipe from Penny Black Rubber Stamps.

PS - I carry the gum arabic & pearl ex powders at my store if you need to order them

This sounds like a really cool techinique but I'm clueless on what DTP is!! Can you please post what that stands for?

Thanks!

I'm looking forward to trying this. I already have the gum arabic and Pearlex!

It can't be direct to paper because you wouldn't spray that !!!

Gum arabic comes in two forms, one is liquid and one is powder. It is a "binder for art pigments" (Right off the jar! Wasn't sure, so I went to check!!)

You can find it at Michaels in the painting section of the store. I believe they have the liquid. Not sure about Hobby Lobby. I don't get there very often. I got mine at a local stamping store!

I think she means you can spray the peal-ex mixture directly on the paper to get a shimmery background.
