Well since we have absolutely no craft stores other than Joann's or Michaels here in Homestead, FL .. I mean no little LSS's anymore which is VERY sad to me... and the closest one is about 2 hours away.
I am guessing the only way to learn the how to's of using Copics is to go to you tube, but, I'm wondering is it as effective as learning in person? Yeah I've learned a thing or two on there for sure... but am wondering if it will be enough for copics.. and I SO want to learn how I LOVE seeing all the cards in the gallery and am copic envy..
I have used youtube videos to learn all kinds of things. I taught myself how to crochet and knit using youtube videos and just today learned how to tie tiny bows for my cards via youtube. The trick is to find the right video. There were several tutorials I found that, while very informative, I just couldn't learn from. So you might have to go through a list until you find the video that works for you.
if you REALLY want to learn how to use copics suzanne dean is the one to go to - she has a bunch of free videos on you tube and her blog plus for more in depth learning she has online classes as well - you can get all the info on her blog
Thanks for posting. I didn't think about using YouTube for learning more about my Copics even though I did learn how to manage vinyl for my Cricut on YouTube! It is amazing how much there is on there!

I live in a tiny midwest town in KS. The nearest craft/scrapbooking stores are 90 miles away. That's a 180 mile round trip just to feed my crafting addiction. Not that a few miles will stop me from getting what I need! It's also really easy to click the mouse and order but then I have to figure out what to DO with the stuff I ordered. Thank goodness for internet and youtube. I learn a lot from it but find my best tutorials by lurking on forums and going to blogs. I can not thank everyone enough for sharing what they know so freely. I love finding the blogs with the step by step (including the mis-steps) pictures, and video's of how to do things. All the helpful "what not to do" suggestions always help me avoid messing things up. I seem to be able to mess stuff up so well on my own!

I go to youtube all the time and I'm so thankful that people take their time to do videos that teach the How To stuff.
I learned a lot from watching Suzanne Dean, too, and through the I Like Markers site. But after watching (and I don't color like Suzanne, most of the time I color light to dark rather than dark to light like she does) videos there's no substitute like practice.
Beyond coloring with copics, one of the best teachers ever in my opinion, is GinaK, and she's got over 300 videos on youtube where she covers a myriad of techniques. To find find Gina's videos on youtube type in StampTV in the search box.
I've learned so much from youtube. I recently started making paper flowers maybe 2 months ago and I'm searching ALL THE TIME for different techniques and flowers to make. I've also learned how to snazz up high heeled shoes! love youtube
I have but I've got to have an inkling as to what I'm looking for. Copics was one as was prisma .... sometimes a flat picture just tell you what you need to know
I learned how to put the tape on my ATG! I was about to tear my hair out in frustration because I just did not get it from the written instructions, but after watching two times a video, I learned permanently how to use my ATG!
I've also watched Copic coloring tutorials. I had no clue what to do with hair until I saw some videos online.
My Pink Stamper taught me how to use my Cricut Imagine I just did not get how to resize the image to how I wanted, and from her I also learned lots of other techniques and tricks on using the cricut.
I LOVE YouTube!! I watch videos every day and learn new techniques or projects; I remember watching a video once about how to open up a SU ink cartridge up!! My family cracked up at that but I said, hey, this video has over 500 hits so clearly I am not the only one who needed a helping hand!!! I love that people put them up...SCS has a bunch on there also!

she even has incredibly helpful lists of what markers to start off with so you don't waste money on alot of markers you probably won't need.
HTH
Ditto on Suzanne's videos, I not only learned so much from her on You Tube, but I've also taken her on line classes as well. Even though I too am a dark to light person, she points out you can choose to do it light to dark, whatever rocks your boat. She's great.
I also learned a lot from Marianne Walker too; although I can't draw free hand like she does.....
My thanks though to all those marvelous, talented people willing to share their expertise with us be it with Copics, Cricut, colored pencils, knitting, whatever craft item it is.... Your generosity has made it possible for hundreds of us out here who may not have access to a craft store for classes, or may not be able to make it there for whatever reason, to also learn and grow. I know I sure appreciate your videos and hope you never stop sharing your knowledge with us. It keeps the the love of the craft going.....
I watched some You Tube videos yesterday to learn how to use my new die cut machine. The only die cut machine I have used is the big Ellison at school. The Big Shot is very different so the videos helped a lot.
I do wish I didn't have to wait for them to stream though. We have a DSL line, but the wait is annoying to me.
I learned so much about Copic markers from YouTube. Suzanne Dean's videos saved me, and taught me so much.
In fact now there are so many generous crafters willing to help many of us out who may not have access to classes for a number of reasons, and YouTube has been awesome. I've used it for my times on forgetting starting or ending knitting or crocheting projects and that has saved me immensely!!!
I learned so much about Copic markers from YouTube. Suzanne Dean's videos saved me, and taught me so much.
Ditto for me. I watched her videos over and over and over before finally deciding to take the Copic plunge.
I took one basic "in person" class and learned a couple of things. First, I was introduced to the "flick" coloring method (which I just can't get the hang of).
Also, I learned how to add texture to a design. To do this, cut a small (2"x2") piece of towel, jeans fabric or other textured material. Slightly wet it with Copic Blending "0" refill solution. Then gently dab onto your design.
But the most important stuff about coloring and blending by repeatedly watching Dean's videos and trying to replicate it on my own.
I love you tube it helps and you can pause and go back or replay it over and over. The trick is finding a great video with lots of detail. But they are everywhere.
Well since we have absolutely no craft stores other than Joann's or Michaels here in Homestead, FL..
I feel for you! We lived in the keys, Cudjoe Key to be exact, for 3 years. Just about went nuts with no shopping locally. We had ONE Ben Franklin store in Key West and THAT's all! We live in Arkansas now, and while I'm still not surrounded by craft stores, at least we have a Joann's and a Hobby Lobby!
I almost forgot to add that I watch youtube tutorials a LOT!
I am not good at reading instructions and applying them but learning quickly when I have a visual aid. YouTube has taught me so many cardmaking technqiues and I've learned about so many projects. Thank you to anyone that takes the time to share their talents with the rest of us!
I almost use YouTube videos to learn in details how to different dancers and ancient dances...I even thorough "how do you download youtube videos" have made my personal video library...
You Tube had so many really awful videos for cardmakers, I gave up. Then I heard about Gina K. Designs Stamping TV and Gina is just amazing at presenting concise, clear, professional videos. She's so organized, talented and attractive, I always wish I had more time to watch the next and the next and the next until I could say I've watched them all.
Watch just one and you'll be hooked because , besides new techniques, you'll see supplies and equipment used in ways you never thought to use them. Probably her way is the "right" way, or at least the way tons of experience has taught her works best.
I've recently started watching you tube videos for jewelry making. Can't bring myself to purchase some of those "Basic" jewelry making books if what I wanna know is out there for free. And with great instructions.

OMG! I am obsessed with You Tube videos! Not only do I watch them to learn I also make them and have a You Tube channel myself. I am a hands on learner and I just have a much harder time with a written tutorial! I find it easier and more fun to watch a video on someone doing something. AND the great You Tube videos will have dimensions and etc on the screen as you are going through watching it!
