They reduce the static on your cardstock, so you don't have little particles of embossing powder on your cardstock instead of only on the image. You know everyonce in awhile you'll see a flyaway particle, well the embossing buddy is supposed to prevent that. I have one, I bought it when I decided to emboss, I like mine and I think it's worth it.
I've had better luck using a dryer sheet on my cardstock to reduce the
static that causes the embossing powder to stick where I don't want it
to stick. I know others who swear by the embossing buddy, though. A
matter of personal preference.
It really does work... it is particularly necessary on dark cardstock, but I always seem to forget to use mine!! I'll be demonstrating embossing, with the buddy sitting right next to me, and I ALWAYS forget it... pretty much a running joke with my customers now, though. It is a good way to show them how your card shouldn't look!
Will it work on window sheets to keep things in the shaker boxes from sticking? I'm also on a learning curve. I tried dryer sheets, but the streak the surface. TIA
I love my embossing buddy....however, I use dryer sheets on darker CS as the EB seems to leave a slight powdery residue on the darker CS...both work very well...I use the dryer sheets in my Tidy Trays to keep the static low when embossing and dumping the excess in the tray...

If you ever emboss on mulberry paper (for decorative plates), DON'T rub the embossing buddy OR dryer sheets on the mulberry paper!!! I learned the hard way....all that did was rough up the paper, unseen to my eye at the time, and caused an absolute mess when embossing!!! :(
When I think about it now, it makes sense to me... :shock: .but it took ruining a nice sheet of mulberry paper to find out....of course now I use that scrap as an experimental sheet.....(don't throw away much at all!!)

Do you use a used dryer sheet or a new one? Or doesn't it matter? And the idea about using a dryer sheet in the tray...silly question...do you keep the sheet in the tray (I'm guessing not) or just rub the sheet over the surface before you start?

No "silly questions" on SCS!!!! No, don't leave the dryer sheet in the tray, just wipe the tray with it to create a static free tray...and yes, you use the unused!!! (while they still have the anti-static chemical in them!!)

I use a dryer sheet that's been through the dryer once. Takes most of
the chemical out of it, but it still works to reduce the static on the tray
& the cardstock.
I've heard not to use the embossing buddy on the window sheet for a shaker card...leaves a powdery residue. Use a swiffer cloth sprayed with static guard instead. I haven't tried this yet, but that was the advice given to me.

When I read this I thought of all the times I did the same thing lol. I try to remember to do it before I get to ahead of myself. Also about the dryer sheets, you know I never thought about using a dryer sheet, would smell good too :P
