Default Embossing all but the center

Greetings,

I saw a video where the person uses a embossing folder and a chip board template to emboss all but the center of the card. The person sells the templates, but I am wondering if anyone here has come up with a template that is not a chip board and if you made the template yourself. Is it possible to get some links, ideas, or how-tos?
Thanks. Be well
Miriam

I've made my own templates using Nesties, CM Custom Cutting System Pieces, or Sizzix Dies. I use the cardboard backing that comes off of paper packs and cut then into A2 card sized pieces and they work just fine.

Thank you for the replies. I made one sample but it looks a bit, say, dull? I like the looks on the tutorial where the edges of the area not embossed are clearly defined. I see there that the card is then "embossed" again to take care of the center. Now, would not this cut the paper? I love the looks and will continue to try.
I appreciate the help I get from this forum. Thank you. Be well

I made a cut out using the top note die, as it isn't a frame "nestie" type die how can I make the border more defined?

I bought a wood spacer from Cropstop.com last year. It was very cheap..less than $3.00 and ship was quick. it worked beautifully. I bought the oval. Check it out! Here is link Cuttlebug Spacer with Oval Opening - $2.99 : Crop Stop!, Your one-stop cropping solution

I haven't used the nestabilities dies, but I think the tan embossing pad prevents the die from cutting through. If you didn't have the nestabilities or a way to create that sharp border with a die, I would put the card stock on a rubber or silicon mat and use a stylus to trace a harder edged border around the center. This whole technique looks so neat!

[QUOTE=Savagetwin;19182444]I bought a wood spacer from Cropstop.com last year. It was very cheap..less than $3.00 and ship was quick. It worked beautifully. I bought the oval.

I bought this too, but can't get a "clean" embossed edge around the oval. I have tried several embossing folders, all with the same result. The embossing around the oval is not as defined as the embossing on the rest of the folder. I've tried all sorts of sandwiches - no luck.

I assume I am doing something wrong, but don't know what.
