Oh good. Thanks for asking and answering this. I was wondering the same thing. I was eying them off of CHA and thought...hmmmmmmm.........I wonder how those work.
I have a set & love it & am waiting for a 2nd set to arrive. They work so well with so many different techniques. The only problem with them for scrapbooking is that they are long & are hinged at the top, so you would get RSI continually opening threading your strip of paper or card through, cranking it through the machine to get a running pattern down the strip. Hope this makes sense.
The only downside is if you use them in between your two B plates like regular A2 embossing folders, you can tell where the folder was - there is a more smooth area with a line. For one thing, you can score a line there with a Scor-Pal or whatever, to separate it purposely. OR here's what I do:
I saw on someone blog that they use a popsicle stick with their borders to prevent the obvious lines and such. I tried it, it did work. But I took a couple pieces of the thin cardboard backing from Cuttlebug embossing folder packaging and cut it into 5 3/4" x 1" strips. I then glued several together in a stack. I stopped at 5 and tried it, added a 6th, and then a 7th before I finally got the look I wanted. (every Cuttlebug is different so just experiment). So this is my homemade spacer.
Here's the sandwich stack:
A plate
cardstock inside the embossing border
place homemade spacer on top of the border, lining them up with each other
one B plate
The reason I did this is because some of my borders are wider than the one tiny popsicle stick I have.
Dont' know if any of that makes sense or not. Sorry!
what Vicki says is true, you do get "blank embossing" as well as your image. see this post in my gallery for an example: daisy card
I still love 'em though! I love to use them on envies, either on the bottom or the flap - really gives them an extra something, kwim?
