Default Creating an old-time reel camera...?

A friend of mine forwarded an email from another friend who's trying to determine if there's any way to craft something like this:camprop%5B1%5D.jpg
For her son's graduation, I think. She sent the word out to all of her paper-crafty friends, but I'm a little challenged when it comes to 3-d items, so I thought I'd see if any of you talented folks had any suggestions!

I think it would be pretty easy depending on the size she needed. I would make the two round parts from tins ~ the bottom from a box of some sort and the lens could be made from a sheet of vinyl, acetate, grungboard or chipboard.

Looks like fun!

For the round part, you could use empty ribbon spools covered in paper. Then a box for the bottom. The lens part could be a tin painted black with the cover left off. Hmmm, now I want to go home and try this...

You could use the lids from oatmeal containers for the reels (I think Quaker oats comes in the round containers - or a least they use to) and then either paper towel tube or a cut up pringles can for the lense. The body is just a box.
