Just a thought......to drum up more business.
I've been advertising the shows I'm doing on CL and also that's how I found some of them too! I search under the "events" section and the "Arts & Crafts" sections under my area.

I also bought my first item on CL yesterday - a local business was selling a brand-new-in-the-box cash register for $50! It's only 11 lbs and 10" high and is perfect for craft shows! I have to collect sales tax and can't do it in my head like I used to

I'm finding the people who run the craft shows I'm doing aren't very computer-literate. I asked the person who ran the first craft show and she was SO thankful that I would be willing to do that.

I don't think you really even need to ask though. I didn't ask for the one I'm doing this Saturday. Hey, they are getting my table fee ($25) and they are not advertising at all that I've seen. I called them on Monday and she said they sent out flyers in local church bulletins. Well whoop! There is also a craft fair right next door on the same day, so they are hoping to get traffic from that. As of yesterday they don't even have a sign out front yet!! At the very least they could have put a sign out front stating there will be a craft fair on Saturday! It's right on Main Street! We have a whopping 11 vendors!!! UGH. Yeah, I'm paying for the table so I think it's my right to advertise where I'm going to be if they aren't going to.

At the very least, you can advertise yourself! I'm also putting an ad in stating I'll be at the craft show and I'll be selling my items and state what kind of items I'm selling.

Ahhh! I just signed up for a show on Saturday! I had one scheduled, but the date got changed, so I thought I had 2 weeks before my next show. I have spent the last 3 days slacking off and now I have to be ready for a show on Saturday! I better get my behind in gear. I may not be on for a few days, so an early good luck to all those with shows this weekend.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I added some photos to my gallery last night that show the paperclip bookmarks packaging I came up with and the details. In case anyone needs it.

My first craft show was actually a fall festival and only netted me $12.00...how sad is that? Anyway, it was a great "dry run" for the real ones coming up in December and showed me what things I need to do next time! Thanks for all your help!

I'll post some other things I've done and the packaging when I can.

Kathy

Just posted some pictures of stuff that I will be selling at craft fairs on my blog. I also decorated my magnet board to make it look more appealing. I will be selling the magnets for $2 each, magnetic calendars for $5 each, Elf Poop and Rudolph Spares for $1 each and the Santa hershey bars for $2 each.

I have a craft fair this Saturday and then afterwards I am dropping my stuff off at home and then driving to Disneyland!! Hopefully I make lots of Disneyland spending money at my craft fair.

Check out my blog for pic...

Cute!!! I noticed on your blog that you are also selling the mini hershey bars - how did you make the little holders? And how much are you selling them for?

Thanks!

Hi Mommyspencer,
I am selling the mini hershey bars for $1. I had a craft fair last weekend and sold alot of them. I cut the paper at 4x4. Score at 1 3/4 and 3 1/2. Fold and glue down the side and at the bottom. Crimp the bottom and then take my Martha Stewart circle punch and punch 1/2 of the punch on the top. Decorate and then fill with a hershey bar . Very easy to do. I got a bag of a42 mini hershey bars for $5 at walmart.
Good Luck!

Default 2 cents

Hey Amy, I'll be at the fair with you on Saturday! so it will be cool to see what we both sell. Good luck to you! gosh, I hope we aren't going to be next to each other, or maybe that may be a good thing.
I haven't posted much lately. I've had a couple of fairs, both sold about $30 so not very excited about the whole craft fair thing.
I do enjoy reading about everyone's results, so for the next fair, I'll be sure to add my two cents. (hopefully I make more than 2 cents)

How many of you blog hop, find something you like, and then forget to favorite it and spend WAY too much time trying to find it??? Argh! I'm SO guilty of that.

I saw this cute snowman wrapper for a small Hershey bar and now I can't find it! It had a cute little hat cut with a square punch and the word window punch for the brim. I remember it was a video tutorial. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? And, if you do, can you point me in the right direction? I bought the Hershey bars and I'd really HATE to have to eat them! LOL

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! Can I share some pics? I have my 2nd craft show this Saturday (but it's the first one I have to actually attend) and so I have everything set up in my dining room right now so I can figure out how to display it all. Adding new things to it everyday!

Keep in mind - most of the items in my booth are dog-oriented. Most of my items are sewing projects as well. But I have a section for dog-treats and people-items too.

The dog treats can be purchased individually, or in the gift boxes. The individual bones are displayed in bone-shaped dishes I got at the $1 store! I got the boxes at the Dollar Tree, 2/$1, and I made a simple "Merry Christmas" tag and they can write in "TO" and "From" on the inside and tied it with a green ribbon. Not sure how to price them though.. still working on that.

I also made some homemade chocolates. Will be selling them packaged and some are lollipops (pictured). Have no clue what to sell them for. Most are from Christmas molds but used some dog ones too.

And lastly, I wanted to show you my acrylic post-it notes which all you have inspired me to try to sell! Mine are in no way as beautiful and fancy as the ones I've seen on this thread but I think they still look kinda cute. And I got the mini gel pens at Michaels - they were 5/$1!

Aww, I like 'em big. All your stuff looks so good. You are sure to have nice sales at your show. I had good luck with my post it holders. You've made a lot of really cute ones. I'll bet you do very well.

Default YEAH... First Craft Fair a Success

Well I just did my first craft shows during lunch at my company (two different facilities). They did no advertising and depended on word of mouth and one email blast. The only other vendors were things like Avon, MaryKay, PartyLite Candles, etc. The good news is that nearly everyone who came to the event came directly to my table. At the first one (last Thur) I made $75.00 and there were only about 30 people who came. At Monday's event I made nearly $200.00! Sold out of almost everthing. If I had 50 more gift card purses I could have sold them. More good news. When I only had one item of a kind left, I marked it as sold and made a "quick" sign that said I would take orders. I got an other $50+ orders. I didn't mind doing this since all these people work in the same office where I work and they are easy to contact. I really enjoyed doing this. A big THANK YOU to everyone on this list. You gave me so many great ideas and the courage to give this a try.

Check out some of what I sold in my gallery (hope this works - its the first time I've tried to post a link).

Default Excellent Source For Tins, Specialty Boxes, Etc

If you are looking for an excellent supply source for small tins, special boxes, alterable food containers, etc you might want to check out papermart. Great prices but you have to buy in quantity.

Wink Craft show today

I did my first craft show today, it was a small one at the nursing home my grandma used to live in. The only advertising they do is a sign up by the road. There was about 18 vendors. I actually think I did better than most there, most of the others had higher priced specialties ($25-60 items), not so good for residents who may not have much money to spend. Anyway it was a good starter.
I only netted about $15 (the table was only $5) but the receptionist wanted my name and number so she could order some christmas presents (I also do woodworking-she loved my lighted christmas tree/winter fields decoration and my handmade wooden card holder.)
Sorry for being so winded, and please keep your results posted, they keep me inspired.

This gives me hope... the one I'm doing this Saturday is at a Senior Living Facility and they have not been doing any advertising hardly at all. My mom is there every day because my grandpa lives there and she even asked the receptionist today if they will be putting out a sign this week to let people know there will be a sale on Saturday. She said no, not until Saturday! Heaven forbid they let people know AHEAD of time... ugh.

Last I knew they only had 11 vendors, but I posted an ad on CraigsList and someone emailed me this morning asking if they needed more vendors so I told them who to call. The funny thing is, when my mom asked the receptionist today she told my mom "we're even on Craigslist!" They did not advertise on CL - I did! The lady who emailed me this morning must have told her she read about it on CL. I think some people think their info "magically" appears on Craigslist, LOL.

By the way - do you think only residents attended the sale, or do you think outsiders attended from seeing the sign?

Default my craft sale best seller

I just did a craft fair this weekend and my best seller was SU small cellophane bags in which I put five Hershey kisses (pumpkin spice) put a topper on it. On the topper I put a punch art pumpkin and stamped Happy Thanksgiving underneath. I sold them for $1.50 a bag. made 72 and have 17 left and took those to work. I have co-workers asking if I'll make Christmas ones. That's an easy answer...of course.

Actually there was a mix of people. The residents came and went all day, also staff (think of it, you have nurses, aides, dietary, housekeeping, maintenence, business office!!) not to mention visitors. I think there were actually only a few that came in just for the craft show, there is not a lot of parking there so that could be why. Good luck and let me know how you did!!

I see you had mailboxes at your sale too. Did you have anything in them? What did you sell them for? I have tons that I picked up but I didn't do any for my one and only sale this year. Mine didn't sell very well the other times I tried to sell them (and yet I keep buying them at Target!). I just ran out of time this year but for next year's sales I want to put things in them - I think they would sell better - like note cards, gift tags, candy or mini muffins (I'm hungy so that's why I threw in the muffin!).

Your display was very nicely done too. Looks like you have a lot of different things done. I like how you did your magnets too - very cutely displayed.

Good Luck!

Candace, thanks so much for this idea and the cute pic of the ones you did. I'm doing a fair at an elementary school on Sat. and needed something easy and quick to make that the kids could buy. At my last fair, lots of children came with dollar bills clutched in their hands and wanted to buy "something."

These are just perfect. I made 40 of them last night in no time at all! I don't have a crimper, so I made them a little shorter and just closed the bottom with sticky tape. They look so cute all lined up.

Here is a scan of the ones I made:

I made up a bunch of these bagged Hershey kisses the other day using the long skinny pretzel bags by Wilton. There are a dozen in each bag....was going to charge $2 each. Do they need a tag on them do you think- or just sell them like they are?

Here's a shot of some of my little post it note holders too. I found the little pens 4 for $1 at Michael's. I'm going to charge $3 for them, my sister saw them and said- "perfect size for my purse or in the car". Hope to sell quite a few of these.

Cute Idea! But I think that you are right....a cute little punched tag seems to add a lot of value to these types of items...with very little cost or effort!

I am making a bunch of "sour cream" containers for a teacher/customer for classroom gifts for her kids and fellow teachers. They were cute alone, but sooo much cuter once I added the tag! I will post a pix once I get them done!

I need help figuring out how much to price my "Grinch pills". My hubby got green jelly beans but of course he got "Jelly Belly" beans which were just over $7 a pound- YIKES!! ......so I think I'm going to lose $ on these no matter what. What do you all think I can get for these? $2 ......more or less?

You have such cute things! You're gonna do so well at your show!

In my area KY/Cincinnati, I can only get about $1.50 - $2.00 for my Grinch Pills...but maybe if you advertise somehow that they are Jelly Belly's you can ask for more?

Oh, I'll bet you do sell quite a few. They are very, very cute! All kinds of post it's seem to do well at craft shows, and yours are exceptionally nice.

In fact, everything you've posted pics of is very well done. Great work!

Thanks for the advice about a tag- will add them onto the bags. I just visited your blog- all your items are sooooo cute- love those little clothespin magnets! Reminds me of some little reindeer ornaments I made years go out of clothespins. Would love to see the sourcream containers once you get a picture of them.

Hi Mrussom, I did not have anything in the mailboxes. I am selling them for $6. Not one of my big sellers but it isn't to bad. I think the reason why they aren't selling so well is because I've only made them with hello kitty on the front. Tomorrow I took the day off work and I am going to bust out a bunch more and make them with disney charaters and butterflys etc.. Thanks for the compliments!!

Hi Buggainok- Your mini hershey bars turned out so great!! I also get lots of those kids with just $1 to spend and usually I am one of the only tables that has $1 items.

About the little $1 items many of us are making kind of at the last minute -

Just a thought: Don't discount using cute Christmas stickers instead of taking all the time to stamp and color your image. I think a cute sticker looks pretty good on a white punched circle with a colored scallop around it. That's what I used on the little Hershey wrappers I just finished.

I think we have all been browbeaten into the idea that using stickers is somehow "tacky" and that we have to handstamp and color everything we make. Yes, that is nice to do when taking our time and creating cards....

I love to stamp and color, and do it on all the cards I create. But this whole craft fair experience of making 40 of something and selling it for only $1 has made me look at stickers in an entirely different light.
