I have 1 item that I can sell lots of and it is really easy to make. That item is my "money maker". It sells year after year with minor tweaking and I can do lots of them in a short amount of time. I sell them for $1 and have only .25 into them. I build my inventory around that. Every year I make a bunch of new things that I have found online and enjoy doing. I keep the ones that sell well to make the following year. After a few years you end up with a pretty good idea of how much you will be able to sell and still have the luxury of making new stuff every year. The snowman candy wrapper is a good example of what is selling well for lots of women at the shows. You can find the wrapper here: snowman wrapper
Hi Linda,
How are you able to make the candy bar snowmen for 25 cents? The candy bar itself is more than that, isn't it?
I also sell these each year and am amazed that people keep coming back for them each year. I keep thinking I will need a new item but they continue to sell!
My other yearly item and best seller are my glass magnets. Clear glass gems are approx 1" size with images and quotes under them for $2 each.
It is funny... some people call me the "magnet lady".

Hi Diane- Sorry if I wasn't clear...I don't sell the snowman wrapper candy bar for $1. I was making a point that there are some items that sell well year after year.
So you all may remember I packaged up some vintage buttons inside vintage jello molds last Christmas and sold them as "stocking stuffers" for crafters at my mainly cards and tags booth. ( sold all of them ) this last weekend hubs and I killed some time at one of those local "antique" booth's / malls type place... guess how many vendors were selling their buttons like that now?
so anyways, this is a prototype for something new... (same idea but craft buttons and rayon seam binding) (removeable)
the spool is stamped with same sanded background on both sides of cheap staples cream cardstock and the template is a free one found here: I set the printer to print two spools on a sheet as a 4X6 photo size then cut it out by hand and traced the others I stamped. ( used the print out as a template because of the words blog address on it prints on it )
question becomes... Price ideas?

Oh and I'm not in it for the money so surprisingly enough I do make money at holding a booth. but, I keep "upgrading" my display because, I do go to yard sales all year long and I like to make the display as much as the cards so, If I take in to consideration that this year I am changing the display a lot more then usual it could become a break even year. ( not sure yet ) but, I've been invited to have cards sold at 3 Ren Faires this year also ( which all I have to pay is gas to get there ) so we'll see.

I was gone for a while, but with 3 shows coming up in November, 3 weekends in a row, I will be getting busy creating very soon! I see that I have a lot of catching up to do, but that's okay. More inspiration!
Oh for anyone trying to stock up, Staples has their 3 pack of jr notepads on sale for a $, and I think it was a 5 pack of pens similar to RSVP also for a $

Really cute idea. Where do you buy the seam binding- or is it vintage?

Reason: grammatical error
Its the hug snug kind of rayon seambinding ( so 100 yard rolls) so far I have bought some from an ebay seller called zipperstop and an ebay seller called cewl6871 and had good luck /service with them booth. ( cewl6871 is slightly cheaper but, does not have as many colors. I know you could dye the cream color but, I'm fairly lazy that way and will only do small pieces for me on various projects)

Love the spool distressed on cardstock. Great ideas!
About the "copycat" packaging - I guess it is some sort of flattery?!
I have 3 sales coming up, one this Saturday for [/url]
How did your sale go?
I had one last weekend also and did pretty good. Sold out of "mother" themed glass magnets, a few cards.
My biggest seller was a surprise. I found a big bag of magnets I made a couple years ago. They were the mini ones of assorted images. I took the little metal circles that came when I bought the magnets at the dollar store (been saving those for a rainy day) and made mini magnet sets of 6 magnets. I packaged them up nice with a header and sold them for $3 each. I sold almost all of them...and these were ones that just didn't seem to sell on their own in the past (which is why I put them away and forgot about them!).

I made a suite of Teacher Appreciation items for an auction at my son' school. You can see the details here.
I did check them out and every one was awesome. You are a very talented woman and I'm pretty sure that every teach receiving those gives will feel VERY appreciated.
Love the wall hooks - how did you make those? Would like to make some Tinkerbell ones for my daughter.
Thanks!
Hi Jejen, I bought the hooks from out Dolarama here in Canada. The small ones came 4 in a pack and the big ones 1 per pack. They were made of wood and had a peel off backing on them. I just used mod podge to adhere designer paper to them.
I made 65 bookmarks today, using fun glittery and other designer papers. I just matted the designer paper with cardstock, and attached a ribbon.
I will probably take pics tomorrow when lighting in better and post, if anyone is interested.
I am trying to make very simple quick and cheap gifty items for kids. I am registered for two outdoor spring-summer festivals and want to ahve something the kids might want.
I am thinking about fairy wands. Anybody have ideas or links for very simple wands...I cannot be curling and heating curly ribbons or anything detailed like that.
Just working on some craft fair items. I made a bunch of the Magnetic tablet holders, but after awhile, I get bored making the same things. so now I am moving onto Tealights and pencil holders. What are you working on?
I bought 3 white notebooks this week, and last night, I applied rub-ons to the covers. I'm really pleased with how they came out. Planning to sell them with a pen with each.
I also picked up some really cheap colour pencils/felt markers, so I'm packaging them up with some little scribble pads as gifts for kids to sell for 50cents or $1.
Also, about to try to cover some little notepads with paper, decorate them somehow and probably do a pen with the paper inserted in the barrel. We don't stock RSVP pens in Australia (which I would LOVE to use) and it's not cost-effective buying from overseas.
I could write you a 10 minute read on all the other stuff I have made or plan to make, but I won't!! My friend & I be doing stalls here in October/November/December. We did a few last year (and I've done several myself over the years). We'll never make much money out of it, but it's fun and provides an outlet for all our creativity!
My friend lives in Brisbane and is coming to the states at the end of June. I should hook the two of you up, so she can bring some back for you! let me know if you're interested. And she's looking for a crafting partner.

Please do share your past and future craft items. I love to hear what others are working on.

LOL I love the monsters!!!!!! They are all very cute! Just wondering if you should charge more then $1. I charge $2 each or 3/$5. And they sell very well for that price! After all most bookmarks sell at the bookstores/ACMoore etc for upwards of $3!!
You asked for it, so here's some of the stuff I'm working on...
I got into flattened bottlecaps last year, and I made magnets, candle decorations and bookmarks. This year, I've added rings, earrings, necklaces and brooches/pins.
I've made easel-style mini post-it holders with the butterfly die. Mini post-its and mini pen on a ring. Regular post-its holders and mini-pen. Will do acrylic photo frames (with and without magnet) with post-its and pen and possibly small calendar. Done covered coasters with post-its.
Will do a few styles of covered journals or notebooks. Making more cards. Decorated one recycled hinged metal tin (got more to do), and hoping to sell with matching pen/bookmark/binder clip type stuff - added ribbon handle so it looks like a handbag (sort of!). Done photo frames with rub-on quotes onto patterned paper - I love how they look. Bought a few more giant clothes pegs, which only arrived in Brisbane last year - also love those!
In 2011, my friend made some items, I made some, and we worked on a few together. We did alot of tealights (2 sizes) and pillar candles with stamped tissue paper - mostly christmassy ones -didn't sell as well as we expected. Painted/glittered wooden alphabet letters to use for christmas tree decorations - pretty popular. Did laminated bookmarks, beaded bookthongs, bobby-pins with flower sequins (sold @ 2 for 50c - very popular), gift card holders, 1 inch glass pebbles with magnets. I also did smaller glass pebble magnets (sets of 4), lots of notepads in various sizes/styles. Did pairs of smaller wooden pegs decorated as magnets. Had concertina photo albums, large paperclip bookmarks, some candle cakes (battery tealights) either alone or in a set with matching card and gift bag, flower pens. Rather late in the piece, I did some pillar candles on plates (used rub-ons on the plates), and some quite small brown gift bags done with christmas designs. Had small numbers of both of these, but I think they all sold.
We had other bits and pieces, and I took along a few 'unwanted supplies' to sell. I think we had well over 1000 items, so obviously we didn't sell out. We did a couple of different venues, but we did best in conjunction with a garage sale at my friend's mother's house. I was too busy to do a stall before mothers' day this year (although I really wanted to see how that would go), but we'll start up again about October. I have to slow down on producing items, as we'll have far too much again, but I do so love it!! I did pick up a small spinning rack which I will use to display little items on.
We wrap/bag everything in cellophane or plastic bags, and put a 'topper' on most of it - generally with a description of what it is, and price each item. When selling, we write a list of mine, hers and ours, so we can split the money accordingly. I keep a 'masterlist' of our items, number of them, price to sell (usually price to make too), and how many are left after each venue. I love looking online at what other people make and how it's displayed, and I check out these 'craft show' threads pretty much everyday!!
wanna show ya guys something. Im gonna do away with my tables this year I think.
my one and only booth I do just by my self is the weekend before Thanksgiving in a school ( in a hallway ) and my booth is technically an 6' table, but Ive always had a spinner rack next to it and they dont care. so, I found these two ladders and Ive stained them green ( winter moss color that is programmable at homedepot) and then hubs and the kid cut some pine boards and routed the edges /sanded them for me for mothers day and I stained the boards (early american) so, I want to take the two ladders and angle them a bit and then have I found two huge old vintage suitcases and two vintage suitcase racks ( the stand like hotels have but wooden ones) and kinda go suitcase, ladder, ladder, suitcase. for the booth display.
this is the smallest ladder and the other just has one more rung ( so four shelves)
(then display things in shallow baskets)

What a neat idea! Visually interesting for those who are close and to those far away they will be intrigued and come in for a closer look at your items.
