I just received 1000 test tubes and cork stoppers that some friends and I went in on a bulk buy on. I have 300 for myself, but at 20 cents each I thought I should stock up...

I already did 24 of the Magic Reindeer Food with some Martha Steward test tubes, so I'll probably do something different with these this year.

I hate that we can't do bulk buys on here anymore!
What a GREAT deal!

I have a question for all of you seasoned craft fair participants.

How many of each item do you normally make to take with you to your events?

I am doing my first craft bazaar tomorrow morning ... YES! I'm scared to DEATH! LOL. It is only 5 hours. I have made about 6 or 7 different things, and 12 to 24 of each of those. I made more of the easier, faster projects. It fills an 8 ft table fairly well, kinda all spread out, in groups, of course. Someday, I want everything in baskets, but that's down the road a ways. I am signed up for 3 craft fairs in the next 6 weeks. At times, I think I've jumped in too deep to start out, but ... oh well.

So, how many of each item should I make as a 'minimum' to start out with??

What you made sounds perfect. You can adjust as you get ready for each sale - don't make more of whatever didn't sell and make more of what did!!!!!! I don't have any other advice. Good luck and let us know how it goes and what is the best seller

I agree with Cathy. Plus, if you sell out of something at this fair, make sure to tell people they can place special orders for more. or invite them to the next fair you are in and tell them you'll have more stock there.

Thanks for the link. I was afraid the free shipping deal was off, but I typed in FREEFALL and still got the deal. Now I need to make some of those cute purses in time for my show on November 12.

My first sale is tomorrow. Set up this morning at the church. Big church but doesn't look like a lot of vendors, and its my first year at this sale. But hoping for the best. My table is FULL of stuff, next year I need to do not so much variety I think. But I can never choose!

Good luck to all of you too who have sales tomorrow!!!

Good luck to you. I am even dilly dallying about whether I should do any stalls at all. At present I sell on line, but that is rather easy but very, very slow.

I think I don't offer enough variety... maybe I should. I have some 300 cards & card kits and 25 explosion boxes.... that's about it... I am too lazy and don't want to take up more room in my house if it not sell... I am pathetic!

Thanks for the link on the sale lip gloss. The FREEFALL free shipping code is still working this morning, too.

I see you ladies have been very busy with lots of ideas and fairs starting while I have been taking things easy on holidays.
Now I have so much to catch up on.
While on holidays I came across a lovely fabric wreath on sale in a cute little shop in Mykonos in Greece. I made something similar though with a different method. While it is not paper or stamping it could make a cute craft fair item and perhaps generate a few more dollars. It cost very little to make too. I've just uploaded photos on my blog.
Looking forward to catching up on the past few pages of this thread.

Anne, thanks so much for sharing the link to your blog post with this darling wreath. It turned out so lovely, and I can see it would be pretty quick to make. I'm not doing craft fairs this year, but I think I might make some for early Christmas gifts for family members. I sew, so I have lots of fabric scraps I could incorporate and use!

From your pictures, It looks like your fabric squares are about 4" x 4". Is that about right?

Oop's! Guilty of not reading - I see your squares are 2.5". Thanks.

I would love the template and instructions for the lip balm purses, I have looked all over and can't find any instructions that end up looking like those? Is that the large or original scallop punch on the purse? Does the purse get smaller toward the top as it appears? I so would love to make these for an upcoming show in November but no idea where to start???

To pantelac, yes I do. I use some of the same adhesive that I used on the front )between the glass and the paper

To Anne, loved your Irish brack, the reindeer poem and crafts, and love the wreath as well - and really appreciate that it requires NO SEWING as that is a skill I do not possess.

To Leslie, I am off to get a link to the instructions for the little purses. Be right back!

They delivered quickly as well, unfortunately they left out 10 Dew Kiss Lip Balms that were shown as included in my order. But they say I should have those in 5-7 days, just not in time for my retreat where I'm making the majority of my inventory for my show in November.

Yes. I use a form of diamond glaze. There is a tutorial on Sun and Moon jewelry that might help you. I use their adhesive but only because I was ordering the other stuff from them as well. I think their prices are fair.

Checking in after my 1st craft fair earlier today:

I had to come home & unload, then go take a nap ... after all the stress of getting ready. LOL. Now that the 1st one is under my belt, I know more what to expect. WHEW!!

First off, I ended up making $68 free and clear after my $20 table fee. I didn't think that sounded too bad considering it was my very first craft fair.

My most popular item was the post-it-note holder w/ mini pen. Took 12 and sold out of them completely! Had $4 on them.

The next most popular item was the 4" chipboard coaster calendars with the binder clips to use as a stand. Had $3 on them.

The item that didn't sell that I thought would, was M&M sticks. I had 50 of them and they were all decorated really cute for Halloween. Only sold 4. Oh well, at least I now have candy for the trick or treaters who come to the house. I also made the 4 pk of Peppermint Patties and sold about half of what I took. So not too bad there. I had $1.00 on the M&M sticks and the Peppermint Patties 4 pk.

Took 6 of the acrylic frame post-it-note holders w/pens. Didn't sell a one. Had $5 on them. Maybe too high? I didn't think so being as I have over $3 in supplies. Maybe it just wasn't the right crowd....

Also sold a a few stamped bookmarks for $1.00. All in all, I'd say it was a success. Just getting out there and getting started is the hard part! Like what was posted earlier, I can already see what was a good seller and what was a bomb. At least I have a good start on taking things to the next fair with what was left over from this one. I do plan on making some Hot Chocolate packets, etc., as I gear more toward Christmas gifts.

There was a lady who came by that was 'shopping' for vendors for her church craft fair next month. It is a pretty large local church. I signed up for that one on the spot ($15). The church has it's own school, so I will get busy making little teacher gifts for that one.

One down, 3 more to go! (Nov 12, 19 and Dec 3). I'm giving myself 2 days to rest, then back into the craft room to hibernate for the next 3 weeks!! LOL. I know that next year, I will make stuff all year long and not wait till the last month to cram it all in. UGHHH!!!

Sorry ... I didn't mean to write a 'book'. Just excited / relieived that my first sale is behind me .....

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Wow! 300 cards and kits does not sound like a lazy person to me. 25 explosion boxes? Those are a lot of work. If you are pathetic, then I am pitiful 'cause I have a list a mile long and I haven't started one single project, lol.

Paula
Good for you! I think you did really well considering the economy. I wouldn't feel bad at all about the candy items 'cause people are getting more and more picky about food. Acrylic frames sound priced right to me, maybe you'll sale them at your next one. If they don't sale you can always give them to family or coworkers for Christmas.
Thanks for sharing your excitment, it makes me excited for you!!

Had my first of three sales today. Did super good. Almost $300 in sales which is just awesome for me.

I didn't sell many M&M sticks either. But they will go.

I sold many acrylic post it things, they have a calendar on them too. Sold them for $5.

Sold lots of coaster post it note holders (magnetic) too. Sold those for $3

Lots of those fun hershey bars (made some with rollo candies too). People just loved them!

I also made pencils out of rollo candies and those went very well. I haven't taken a pictue of that yet but I will. Pretty easy to do. Those were $2.50

Bookmarks went really well too - I used stickers this time - had some scrapbooking ones that were three dimensional and that was way faster then stamping and layering. Found a pattern for spongebob and angry bird so those went well Those were $1.50 (with the big paperclip)

Peppermint patty bags and wrapped nuggets didn't go so well either, but I have to other sales so I'm sure they will go eventually.

Frap bottles (and little bottles that I had left over from a shower) went really well too.

Tooth fairy tins, not so much.

Coaster calendars - sold a couple, but those always sell at my last sale (been there for a few years and people come looking for me for those!) Selling those for $6 this year.

Birthday card with candle (the electric ones to match the card) were a huge hit. Especially when I turned one on so it caught people's eyes. Sold those for $5.

Gift card holders (that looked like presents) were a huge hit so I need to make more of them. I had lots of holiday ones and just regular ones too. $1.50 on them.

So I have a few things to replenish - and I'm going to try to do a couple of new things too.

I bought the square kleenex tissues and Splitcoast has a tutorial for a box covering so I'm going to try some of those.

My lip balm should be her Wed so I can do those up too.

And I'm going to try to do some little sewing kits (found some at WalMart) and pedicuare sets (when Target gets them in the dollar spot) in little altoid tins or the little lunch box tins Target always has in their spot. Have bunches of those at home, better use them up.

This was my first time at this church - and I was a bit concerned when I was setting up since there didn't look like a lot of vendors, and there wasn't. Maybe 12 or so. But the items they were all selling were really nice. And it was so busy! Hardly any time to skip out to go potty!! but thankfully family showed up so I didn't bust a bladder. AND brother came back at closing (which was early - 1 p.m.) to help me pack up and carry out! He is such a nice guy.

Tomorrow - I need to clean my house - its a super mess (lots of pieces of paper on the floor, TONS of fleece and glove bits scattered all over!!!!!!!). I hate cleaning, but its really got to get done before I made more mess.
