LOL I too have had my share of Retail! But I also agree, dont rush the season. It will be here soon enough. I did a sale last year and although it was marketed to be a Craft Fair, it was really more a Flea Market. so folks were looking for bargains. I did sell quite a bit though. I didnt so much focus on Halloween items, athough there were a few things that were Halloween and did well. I more focused on gifts. Non-holiday specific gifts. Girls notebooks, boys bookmarks, etc etc

Just a couple of things.
The hole is too big to use the jumbo eyelets in them. I dug through my drawers and had found the MM ones. They dont work.
Second, they are longer then 12". So I have the patterned paper along the part that is the actual measuring part of the ruler, and then I finshed the ends with coordinating cardstock. I still think they look pretty good. The rulers are not flimsy at all. I found ones at Office Depot which are pretty much the same, but at office Depot they were $2.59 EACH!

I am happy with the end results!
Any chance you'd want to show us a picture of how yours turned out?

I am always trying to incorporate boy items in but it is sooo difficult!
Can people share the boy items they llike to make?
What designs do you use for boys for the rulers/bookmarks?

Hi Diane,
I found paper that had Robots and Cars/Trucks on them. Also used plaid paper in blues and greens. I know, not original, but you're right, it's hard to find "boy themed" paper (with smaller patterns).

Good luck!

This is a bit off the subject of this thread, but I just wanted to tell those of you who are altering the rulers to be sure to save one or two out for yourselves. One of my favorite "tools" is my clear, un-altered ruler. It makes casing a swap card so easy because I can measure the various sizes of mats, image pieces, and embellishments without taking the card apart. The clear ruler allows you to see all layers. Good luck to everyone on your craft fairs!! I need to get started on my goodies, too!

It is hard to find boy pics which are small enough for the rulers. Here are a few suggestions.
Pick a strong bright colour and stick pics on both sides of it using :
Old postage stamps
Stickers
Parts of comic strips, cartoons
Car, truck pics from sale ads, magazines, flyers, etc
Random stamp solid images (of dinosaur heads, ships and sailing, fishing related items) on your strips of paper.
Road maps cut into strips ( are often double sided)- Visit a tourist info for some free maps and pics of local interests.
Type words (Cool, Boys Rock! Skateboards, Monster Trucks, etc) in different fonts and print out on coloured paper.
Use small clip art pics ( trucks, cartoons, etc) and print out on coloured paper
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Sharon

Has anyone found the rulers and where?

Our Walmart only had pink ones.

Karen - I use a ruler nearly every day. I keep 3 or 4 around!

We have a store here in the midwest called Meijer - I found the sturdier ones there for .75 each. And they are actually clear and not kind of gray tinted! Off to play!

Was thinking on the boy themed, maybe you could use twine or old looking rope instead of ribbon? Might help with the boy look?

Default Pricing Magnetic Coaster Calendars

I've never made magnetic coaster calendars for a craft fair, but plan to make some this year for a late October fair. If fact, this will be my first "real" fair, so I'll probably have many more questions over the next weeks. Can any of you seasoned craft fair ladies give me an idea of how to price them. The ones I'll made will be very similar to this one that I found in the gallery:
Coaster Calendar Door prize by pachyderm23 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers calendar
Thanks for any help you can give me and for the amazing ideas and information you've shared on this thread. Pam

I sold several at either $3 or $3.50 - I can't remember. I had some magnetic, and some in small wire easels. I could have sold more of the magnetic ones had I had them. I thought the ones with easels were cuter but they didn't sell as well.

I sold mine at $3.50 and sold a bunch. I also do a flip one with coasters for the front and back and 4x4 cardstock with a month on each page and I sell that for more - $5 last year but I think I'm raising that a bit - I have some in my gallery. those sell very well too. I have people who come back each year to find me and buy their new calendar. I just use cardstock and some designer paper to keep the cost and time down on making them - so I can sell them for not a bunch of money.

I am trying to take a look at this and when I use the link it says 'it appears you don't have permission...'. Any thoughts? I am signed in.
Also, Mary, do you have pictures of your calendars in your gallery? I would love to see one or two.

Not about rulers, but I wanted to pass on this information. My Walmart has the composition books for 40 cents. Staples has the mini composition books in a two pack for 50 cents. Walgreens has the mini composition books for 19 cents/each. The Walmart deal is their everyday price. The other two deals end Saturday, July 30, 2011.

I have been going to Staples each day to get these! Didnt know about the Walgreens ones! Thanks for that info!

I did get my rulers from BJs.com, but havent found any in the local stores that aren't either too flimsy or way too expensive ($2.59 at Office Max).

I wonder if some of the items are listed for Demonstrators only. There is a whole side of Splitcoast that only Demonstrators can see.

I get mine at uniquepacking on ebay- they have every size you could think of..its just fun to look around the site too. I like the a2 p as the sticky is on the bag not the flap so the card wont get stuck as you are pulling out.

I have the magnetic calendars and the flip kind in my gallery (along with a bunch of other craft sale items) rows 5 and 6 for the calendars - although there may be other pictures of them elsewhere in my gallery.

And for those envelope sleeves, that is a very good idea to have it sticky not on the envelope side - I get a bit frustrated when I'm putting something in one and it keeps getting stuck.

I buy all my clear envelopes from clearbags.com I have ordered twice from them. This time I just went ahead and ordered 500 clear A2 envelopes with the adhesive, b/c I know I'll use them and won't have to keep ordering. I also order some for 6x6 cards and 3x3 cards. I have had great service from them

I am not sure I understand this...are you taking the sticky strip off before you put your card in the clear envelope? I don't remove the sticky strip until the cards are secure in the envelope...

The problem comes when you go to take the card out of the plastic sleeve to send or use, the card can get stuck on the sticky

Now I get it... I have never taken mine out once they go in the envelope...I will have to think about that next time I go to sell a card... I have already had 3 cups of coffee this afternoon but it sometimes takes awhile for me to "jump start" my brain...

I prefer the card jackets from ClearBags because it allows the buyer to look at the inside without having to open the envelope. I use the regular envelopes for blank cards only. I also love their acrylic card boxes for sets of cards.

Has anyone found the composition books for less than the price of $.40 at Walmart? I made a lot of the mini ones last year but they did not sell that well for me.

Also, if anyone sees any deals on the 3x3 post-it notes, I would love to pick up a bunch of them.

Hi! The mini comp books are on sale at Walgreens for $0.19 for single books but a limit of 3.

Staples has the mini Comp books pack of 2 for $0.50 limit of 2. But my hubby called the other day to tell me Staples also has Post it notes but their brand for a big pack, not sure if it was a 12 pack or 18 pack, for $5 this week! I just looked at their ad, but cant find it anywhere. I'll see about sending him back tomorrow.

Do continue to be polite but ask them if they are interested in this or that item. If they don't move on then you could wait a polite amount of time and then ask them that maybe this item might interest them instead. Keep on asking them and they will move on sooner rather than later as you keep on interrupting their conversation....LOL

Just a couple of quick questions today...I'm at a farmers market every Sunday.
I've outgrown my displays. My card rack is too full and I need to be able to display more cards. I'm looking for thrifty (free really) suggestions. For my banners...I hang then from the tent and they really don't get looked at. I'm trying to find another solution for displaying banners. For the cards I may just repurpose some old shoe boxes and cover them with fun paper. but for the banners...I've come up blank. Any thoughts on this??

What do you mean by banners Lisa? Banners for sale or banners advertising your booth? Try baskets from thrift stores for your cards. They can be purchased cheaply and are pretty.

I have a few baskets. I was just wondering if anybody had any other ideas besides the baskets and the racks. I really need my cards to be seen (and sold )

GREAT advice!!

Those are pretty banners. Make the price more visible. If the price is appealing, people may take a closer look. Also, that way people know they are for sale and not just decoration. I'm not really sure how else to display them to make people look at them.

Has anyone found the composition books for less than the price of $.40 at Walmart? I made a lot of the mini ones last year but they did not sell that well for me.

Also, if anyone sees any deals on the 3x3 post-it notes, I would love to pick up a bunch of them.
So my hubby went yesterday to Staples and the Staples brand of Post it notes - "Stickies" are on sale until August 12th I believe. They are in a 18 pack. ANd they are indeed $5. They are all yellow.

Default Calendars with flip styling

Hi Mary,
I have looked in your gallery and do not see flip calendars. Can you please post a picture of them here on the list? I am interested to see them. They sound very nice.

I have not really done the calendars but am thinking of it this year.
I have done the post-it stands but they just do not sell in my area very well, and they are hard to transport without damaging them!

I am definitely considering making chipboard calendars for fridge or flip style.

For my banners...I hang then from the tent and they really don't get looked at. I'm trying to find another solution for displaying banners. For the cards I may just repurpose some old shoe boxes and cover them with fun paper. but for the banners...I've come up blank. Any thoughts on this??
I have a thought...

You could hang them on a simple background like a fence like you did in the photos you posted, take a picture.

Fold up nicely the banner and put it into a cello bag to help protect it.

Then if you have the means (like photoshop) create a packaging closure for it, print it on a nice heavy stock that encorporates the photo and staple it to the closed end of the cello bag for a professional look. So that people can see what it looks like unfolded and hanging. I'd also include the dimensions and width of the banner as well.

Having the banners packaged with a photo, has many pro's:
- easier to transport being all packaged and self contained
- People should see them instantly when looking at your stuff to know they are for sale and you'll be able to display them on a table bin so people can easily flip through them all
- Easier for you so that you don't have to find 'a place' to set them out
- They won't get ruined hanging up should there be a particularly 'windy' day.

Let me know if you have any questions...

hope this helps!
