Default CRACKED GLASS Directions here

I have had ALOT of people ask me how to do cracked glass since posting a couple of cards. Now, I am no Beate, but here is how I did mine.

Cracked glass is easy.

1. First stamp you image as usual.

2. Cut your cardstock down to desired size.

3. cover the entire piece of cardstock with versamark

4. cover with Glassy Glaze (also known as UTEE-Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel)

5. Use your heat gun on it.

6. Repeat steps 3-5 two more times.

Some people say they do not need to repeat step 3...but I found I needed to.

7. Put it in freezer for about 10 minutes. Then twist it to "crack"!

8. I rubbed my creamy caramel pad over it, then wiped the excess of with a paper towel. This gets the ink into the cracks and enhances them.

Here is a link to my card is you would like to know what Cracked Glass looks like.

Have fun!
Good Luck!!

I've been dying to try this technique. Between your instructions and Beate's instructions, I should be all set (once I get over the fear of trying  ). Thanks for sharing !!!

Kerry

Nice easy simple directions - that's how I do mine too - I also place my image in a shoe box when heating the UTEE so that it doesn't fly all around my counter and make a mess. I've also put my image in the freezer after heating and applying the UTEE 3 times, seems much easier to crack when it's super cold.

I heat my UTEE from the bottom so it doesn't blow off.

Utee is available at Michaels for around $3.00 for a container almost the size of a soda can. That's much cheaper than SU's!

Those of you who have tried both, honestly, is the big jar from Michaels the same as the SU! one? I've purchased regular embossing powders from various stores (including Michaels) and don't think that the quality compares to SU! embossing powders, so I was curious about UTEE / Glassy Glaze. I'm dying to try this, but I am willing to wait for an SU! order if it is worth it !!!

I totally agree with you Myra. I too tried the "other" non SU! embossing powders and was dissappointed.

I have not tried non SU! glassy glaze. So I cannot give you an answer. However it is probably a personal choice. I know I won't buy alot of things from anywhere but SU! (I tried the less expensive route but it's never as good as quality) On the other hand I know some demos that are perfectly fine with "other" brands and insist they are just as good.
Guess you have to try both to know for sure.

just my opinion.

Thank you so much for these directions. I'm going to do this at my Open House tomorrow night. I'm so excited. I made 2 samples - 1 from Garden Collage and 1 from See With the Heart. I will post them later. I've got a lot more to do to get ready.

The UTEE that Michaels sells is made by the original creator of the stuff. It's wonderful, and, as I stated before, MUCH less expensive!
I do agree with what has been said about the other brands of regular EP, though...there is NO comparison to SU!s Detail EP.

Default Cracked Glass

Hi,
This is my first post. When Im using UTEE I dont cut my paper to my exact finished dimension. I leave about an inch at the top. I wrap alum foil around a clipboard then clip my cs and UTTE on the board. Nothing goes anywhere and my fingers dont get burned while embossing. Have fun.

Learn something everyday. I had put Glassy Glaze on my wish list for this order next week. Afer reading this post, I went back to look at it again and Lo and behold! I'd never seen that we actually sell Detail White!!

I've been looking everywhere and no one has it. I guess I didn't read carefully enough but it was there the whole time! I've been looking for it for more than 8 months! See, you post about 1 thing and teach a whole bunch of other people that and more!

You guys rock!

Default Utee

I have a bottle of clear utee, but I notice that some at the store had larger chunks and kind of a beige color. Different stuff?
