Colouring stamp image in tiles ?

Now I have got the hang of stamping image on marble tiles to make into coasters, using stazon black ink.

I was wondering how to put colours into image, to make it like this:

I am not an advocate of the seller, but I dont know any other way how to describe it. Sorry..

Is it handpainted? Or dabbing method before I put the stamp onto the surface?
What sort of paint or brand of paint to do this? Can I use stazone refill to achieve this result?

Tsukineko makes a product to use "between" your layers of Stazon it's called GlazOn: Tsukineko - high quality inks and inkpads for your crafting projects I've only used in once on a domino - worked great.

The tutorial in Resources (Splitcoaststampers - Tile Coasters Project Tutorial by Gina Krupsky) shows using StazOn re-inkers and daubers for colouring.
But looking through the Tile gallery (Tiles Gallery: Decorative Picture Coasters, Photo Tiles & More - Page - Splitcoaststampers) people seem to have used other media too, such as regular inks and Copics.

I have had good luck stamping with Stazon and coloring with ultra fine sharpies.

I've made some tile coasters using this method, too. The picture you showed on ebay appears to be a very large background stamp that is 4-1/2" x 4-1/2".

Personally, I've had a lot of trouble with large stamps like that, getting the image to stamp clearly, with no blank spots. And that was stamping on paper!

It is lovely, and has lots of detail, but I myself wouldn't attempt to use it on a tile. Stamping on tile is a little tricky, and it's easy for the stamp to "slide" a little on the slick surface of the tile when you stamp. I know I would get frustrated trying to get all the details to stamp cleanly.

And if you got it stamped, it would sure take a steady hand to color it properly, too.

Most of the handstamped tiles I have done or seen others make used a pretty simple smaller design and didn't cover the whole tile.

I attended an SU! demo once where we colored the stamped images with chalk (the SU! Pastels) and then sealed over the chalk with several layers of spray sealer. That was several years ago and the color is still there. This might be hard for super detailed coloring, but to add highlights of color, it worked great.

I have made many tile coasters from non-marble tile. I just make sure they have a dull finish (travertine type tile) and stamp with stazon. Then I color in with a permanent marker made for glass etc. I bake them and seal with a opaque type sealer. They are not porous like marble but work great and last for a long time. I use mine daily for hot and cold drinks. My newest "guinea pig" set is a year old and looking just fine. Stamping is sometimes tricky but you can fill in missing spots with marker or stazon.
