Adding color/glitter to metal brad

For Christmas last year, I added red Stickles to a painted metal brad. It turned out great initially, but after attaching them to cards, some of the dried glitter fell off. I even mailed a card with a perfect one to my vet, but when I saw it in her office, a couple of the toes had lost their glitter.

I think the problem may lie in the fact that the brad is painted. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can add some red glitter or color to the brad and get it to stick permanently?

I use Tombo two in one white glue and glitter on painted brads...never falls off...well, not that I have ever seen...

I've heat embossed metal brads before and it works well but it will flake/chip off if handled roughly. If you're trying to create a design or fill in a design, I would try a glue that is meant for metal (something like E6000) and paint it on then sprinkle with glitter.

You could try a glittery nail varnish, that would work.You could also add more glitter sprinkled over it. Also, maybe try 'roughing up' the surface of the paint with an emery board first, it should give the Stickles (or other glue) something to grip.

Have you tried the alcohol inks by ranger? I have had luck with them. The color is permanent. I also heated up a brad and added embossing powder. I used the Distress Embossing Powder and also plain powder. Perhaps you can get the effects you want. Also, how about the glitter embossing powder? I still use embossing pad first. Hope you find something that works!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have some extra brads, so I'm going to experiment with the E6000 glue and glitter and also with glittered embossing powder with heat/embossing marker.

If you are concerned about any medium coming off, try adding a coat of glossy accents after. I've coloured brads with alcohol ink, acrylic paint and embossing powder with and without glitter in it. You could mix red glitter right in with glossy accents too.

I've had luck with nail polish. So far it hasn't come off and there are a lot of glittery ones for sale.

i've heat embossed too - esp with glitter emb powders. you could colour with an alchie marker first and then add clear or clear tinsel emb poiwder over teh top.
