I'm planning to make reindeer food this year. I plan to use oats and sugar crystals. My question is: can I make them now for Nov shows? I was wondering if the sugar crystals will absorb moisture and get sticky if kept for a long time.

I imagine you could make it and put it in a ziploc bag. I don't know if you are using test tubes or cellos but you could just make the decorations for them and save the easy part (filling with reindeer food) for later.
I'm not making reindeer food.... I'm making reindeer poop!!
I'm using chocolate covered peanuts in zip lock bags, and I'm making the reindeer heads from the SU owl punch for the bag toppers where the poem will be. I just got the punch yesterday, so when I make some, I'll share a picture.

Sorry, that was meant for Smriti who said they were using oatmeal and sugar crystals. Can't wait to see your poop bags! LOL - never thought I'd say that with a smile!
Thanks Carolyn - that's a good idea! Maybe I'll do just that - have the bags and toppers ready. I going the cello bag route because the test tubes are going to cost at least 50 cents a piece. Not sure if people would be willing to pay more than a dollar for it. On the other hand using the cello bag, the price could be ultra low.
sc magnolia - I'm making snowman poop using the tic tacs! I plan on using the white tic tacs for snowman kisses as well as snowman poop!
I love the whole snowman soup thing, but I saw the cutest idea using a facsimile of a Campbell's soup can. Soooo I went to work on Print Shop, made my label and began production. If anyone is interested, I have the label on my website.
I've been nervous about the big juried craft show, thinking that we would not be accepted.
This is sooo cute. Thanks for sharing! Where did you get the adorable snowman?
I wouldn't worry too much about the juried show. I have been able to enter in many juried shows over the years. Last year, I had one turn me down. It kind of shocked me because people often contact me to invite me to their shows.
They said my crafts were "not suitable for their venue". lol
Some are just wanting higher priced works of art, and downplay the attraction of the table with lots of small gifts. If they only knew how many people would gather aroung my table at once, which gets people to stick around longer.
If they turn you down, it will be their loss - because your stuff it great!
And the snowman chocolate bars will do great. I easily sell 200 per year. For one busy show, I would make at least 50. I only make so many, any then stop selling them because I don't want to have leftovers (which I will have to eat)!!

When I make reindeer food, I just use oatmeal and fine glitter. Shake it up and it stays good for a long time.
IF you use glitter though - and this will sound silly to us - BUT don't forget to put a label on it that says it is not for human consumption. I have had MANY people ask if it can be eaten. lol

Thanks so much Diane!! The snowman on the can, I made in Print Shop. The snowman candy bar is a free template that I got from Laurie Furnell. She sells templates but gave the snowman one away for free the last couple of years. Laurie Furnell: Snowman Candy Bar Wrapper...

Thanks - maybe I should use glitter! Yes that's exactly what I was worried about - people thinking it was edible. That's why I thought of using sugar crystals. Seriously people, there are better things to eat out there!

With all due respect, I think you should stick to sugar crystals. Some people are careless, really. They don't take the time to read things. I have small grandchildren, and would be appalled if they grabbed a packet and managed to eat glitter.
I've seen reports about little kids drinking anti-freeze because it is a red color, and some stupid, unthinking person put it in a pop bottle.

And glitter could be dangerous to small animals that may eat the mix. Imaging all the small dead animals in the person's yard...I would NOT want to be know in the neighborhood as the small animal killer. ha ha
But seriously, glitter is not good for animals.

For anyone who has a Sam's Club close and needs Hershey bars for the Laurie Furnell Snowmen, my sister found a great deal! They have a S'mores kit for $4.46 which contains 18 full size Hershey bars, 4 packs of graham crackers and a bag of marshmallows. This is a really good deal just for the candy bars (which work out to about $.25 each)!

Good to know. I ATE all the candy bars I bought to do snowman for the sales. OOPS!!
OOPS. when I print this out its wayyy tooooo biggg! What am I doing wrong? I tried both versions you sent out. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.
What software did you use to print it? Are you using Word? I took the .png file, then pasted it in Word and adjusted the position by centering it and increasing the top margin. Then printed it. BTW for my trial runs I used copy paper so as not to waste my CS.
Also I did it for the microwave popcorn size. Are you too doing the same or do you want it for the hershey bar?
I will try it in word, I was using the photo printing that comes with most programs. But yes candy bar sizes would be great!!! You are a peach for helping. Thanks.

Here's the black and white snowman image for candy bar: http://sdrv.ms/PNeLPs
Hope this works for you!
If anyone lives near Hershey (PA), the Hershey shop was selling the S'Mores kits at a sale price as well. My recollection is that they were along the lines of $8 something rather than $4, however.
Regarding the S'more kits--how do you keep the graham crackers crisp in your packaging. If I open the crackers to do individual s'more kits, the crackers get soft. Any ideas on how to keep they crispy fresh when repackaging?
Sorry if this has already been asked but Im' lazy and didn't want to take the time to re-read all the posts....
My first fair this season is October 20 - I wonder if Christmas is the majority of what I should have and some minimal fall/Halloween themed projects or if I should have mostly fall/Halloween themed ideas or all-year-round items? I have more this season so I will be heavy on Christmas but want to try to appeal to as many groups as possible.
For an October 20th show, I would go heavier on the Christmas stuff and lighter on the fall/Halloween items.
I pretty much agree - however, I found that the 2 fairs I did in October were the least profitable for me. It seems like in my area, Oklahoma City, people really aren't ready to get all fired up about Christmas stuff until after Thanksgiving.
The 2 shows in October were pretty good for small Halloween items, and generic gifts that could be used for Christmas, but not necessarily Christmas themed.
I did much, much better in the November (and even early December) shows.

I am working on my M&M sticks. I am glad that I can sell them at craft fairs locally. All I need is a Foodsafe course certificate.
I do them while watching TV. I was able to get 34 sticks out of 2 bags of M&Ms.
Have 4 more bags to go...
I have my first craft fair on October 20th and it is fast approaching. Once November starts, there will be no time because I have 7 shows scheduled, including 4 2-day shows.

I was thinking of doing M & M sticks maybe decorate the top with punch art elf shoes, and call them elf kisses. I don't know.
