You ever go thru the matts like crazy for your cricut? You can wash em with soap and warm water, so your old still plenty of life, but just not enough sticky left in those expensive matts.
Just allow them to dry and then use two way glue pens by Zig it goes on blue and dries clear and you can keep on using those matts till they are really done in and that is when the matts are pretty much cut up by the needles.
Oh and another thing you can do with your cricut is turn the needle upside down and emboss that design that you would of otherwise cut the whole image with,,,, its much like using a marker in the cricut only you get that lacy look in an embossed design instead. Hope this is not something someone has already posted but if not then I was able to contribut to this wonderful site.. ;)
Happy crafting everyone...:-P

I don't think it matters if any one has posted the idea about using the needle upside-down for embossing. I never heard of that and I am looking forward to trying this out. I'm sure there must be other people who have never thought about doing this. You have contributed to this site IMO.

I "reglue" my mats all the time using the Zig pen (or the equivalent glue pen from CTMH). From all the posts I've read on how to do this, some say wash the mat, some say to use fingernail polish remover on them, etc. I tried it just as it is, scraping any large bits of paper off it, and it works fine. I have had my Cricut almost a year now and own four mats. I've been recycling two of the four with the glue and the other two are still brand new in the package. I numbered the mats so I'll know which ones are the oldest. One might be drying while the other is ready to roll. I'm going to have to try the upside down needle for embossing. Sounds interesting!

Thank you ladies.... We are excited and its still seems so far away...
I also get lazy and just scrape away any fuzz and then just glue over the old stuff but I havent noticed anything different when I did wash the matt once. I like the idea of numbering the matts I have had my cricut about 6 months or so. LOVE it too but havent used it much lately since I keep learning something new to do with my stamps lol

When I absolutely must buy a new mat, I wait until Hobby Lobby has a sale on their Cricut (which isn't very often) and buy the 24 inch mats and cut them in two. That way you get 4 12 x 12 mats for way less.
Love the bit about turning the needle upside down can't wait to try it.
To make your Cricut mat sticky again once you wash and throughly dry the mat, spray it with quilt basting spray to make sticky again.

I stopped buying new mats and now use blue painters tape. The tape removes easily off both the mat and the paper and can be reused several times. One roll of painters tape will last me months.
From now on I am going to take my painter's tape with me wherever I go.
I went to the coast last weekend with 11 other women and I brought my Cricut. I bought two brand new mats and so I figured I didn't have to worry about sticky mats. Wrong! My brand new mats were not sticky and it was terrible trying to use them. I finally remembered someone had said something about Tombro glue so I put that on one of the mats and it worked better. It was embarrassing to be responsible for bringing the Cricut and not have decent mats.
I love these ideas! I am interested in the quilt basting spray. I've used craft spray adhesive, but you have to be careful not to get too much on it or it's TOO sticky. The basting spray sounds like a good, quick idea. I also want to try the embossing idea and buying the 24" mats! Wow! Can't wait to share these ideas with my craft friends when we meet Monday!
You can use a brayer (not sure this is the right word) to roll your paper onto the mats it helps a lot. I also hold my fingers down around the area that is being cut out if I have trouble of it not sticking. I hope this helps.
