Default altoid tin questions

I just don't know who you creative types are that can think up these adorable ideas! I just saw the cutest altoid tins in the gallery and I'm wondering a couple of things:

1. do you spray paint them first?
2. do you buy all those Altoids and eat them to get the cans?
3. are the inside pictures attached to the tin or just nestled inside?
4. Is the outside covered with fabric or cardstock?

here is one of the examples I am looking at and so wanting to case it!

I hear ya, there's a lot of things that I can't seem to figure out! I would never thought of stamping on a metal tin....I guess if the surface is flat it'll work!

I didn't stamp on the tin- I stamped on cardstock and attached it to the tin.
I haven't tried spray paint- that might work better though! I used acrylic paint and it seems to chip off where the lid closes.... hmmm.

Scratch up the tin with a little sandpaper before you paint- it helps the paint stick more. I paint mine first.

Yes, I buy the altoid tins with the mints and put the mints in a candy jar they are cheaper to buy them this way (like at walmart in a 2 pack) then the empty ones at a craft store.

I did attach one of my sets of pics to the bottom of the tin- and one I did not. I think you can do either Hope I helped just a bit!!

Hi! That is my tin in your link, I am glad you like it! I did buy the tins with Altoids in them, but there are other sites that sell them empty. I used the cinnamon tin because the burgundy went with my color scheme. The lid is background paper that I attached with spray adhesive. The inside papers I just used sticky strip for, they won't get as much wear. I just nest the accordian album inside and tie down with the raffia. Anyway, again I am glad you like it and if you have any other questions, PM or email me at ErinRN2002 at hotmail.com

I agree, I am completely in love with altoid tins. I found a paint be Deco Art at Michael's Craft store called no-prep Metal Paint. I have been amazed at how well it covers the altoid tin and it doesn't chip off like the regular acrylic paint. It came in a lot of different colors and was not much more than regular acrylic paint. Like it says there is no prep involved. You just make sure your tin is clean and then paint and let dry.

I get my tins at Specialty Bottle. Here is their link. http://www.specialtybottle.com/

They are .64 cents each, and are silver, so I don't have to paint them. I tried acrylic, and spray paint, both of them chipped the edges when I closed them, even with a sealant on them.

you are all so nice to share your tips and sources... thanks - I know I can't possibly do justice to a case of Erin's tin (it's so cute!) but I'm going to try and make these.

I got my tins at my local stamp store. Two for $3.20
I attached the cardstock on the top by running it through my xyron. Then I ran tacky tape around the cover edge and added a ribbon.
