Welcome to Teapot Tuesday
the Sisterhood of the Traveling Teaparty
and Challenge #340
Oh My, This Just Isn't Right; The Forest Shouldn't be This Quiet
Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion! Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!
The Rest of the Story:
1: Have you ever wandered out into the woods so far that you can't hear the sounds of the city anymore? So far that the light is so dim from the trees overhead that you don't even know if the sun is still shining? So far that you can imagine yourself in another world? A world of tiny creatures that live under the rocks, and roots and fallen limbs in the forest glades. This is a place of peace. A place where the quiet really isn't quiet; but totally alive with the sounds of nature. The frogs are calling out to each other and the squirrels are listening to make sure no one has found their secret acorn stash. A world where even the slightest change in tone can set off alarm bells all through the undergrowth.
2: This is the world where Ned felt at home, and where he didn't feel so lonely. All the animals knew him and were so used to him being there that they would go about their business without a care in the world, as if he was one of them. Then he would get out his flute and start to play softly and they would stop to listen for awhile before hurrying on their way. Ned liked this audience, they weren't critical and if he missed a note they didn't care. It was just as if it was just him out here in God's creation and he was playing his music for the sole purpose of just enjoying it, not for grades, or some contest or another. Out here it was just the music and the background noises of the forest were like the purest harmony.
3: As the summer wore on and time for school was almost here again, Ned began spending more and more time in the forest and had even enticed some of the animals to come to certain melodies. But one day when Ned got to his favorite spot, he noticed that he didn't hear any of his friends and no one was coming to greet him. Not even when he took out his flute and played a few melodies. The silence was so profound that he became very worried. What on earth could have scared all of them away like this? Ned started running around and around trying to find anything that could have caused this. But he saw nothing that would have scared off all of his friends.
4: Rut-Roh.....Teapotters, it looks like we've got a mission here.
Bring birds, bees, rabbits, turtles and squirrels. Bring dragonflies, and butterflies too. We need some of natures harmony.
