Great photo Jennifer! Do you happen to know what species that hummer is? I only see ruby-throated hummingbirds around here.

This is an Anna's hummingbird. They are here in Santa Rosa Ca. year round. Every once in awhile I see a Rufus passing through.

The following webcam is in Zion Nat'l Park. I check this one every day also, it gives me an idea of what the weather is like at Mom's and Aunt's places. The sunrise on it this morning is gorgeous!

Default In regard to this week's Owl theme

Kathy, 101Airborne, posted a really neat Owl card this week...
Her card reminded me of the cross stitch that my HUSBAND did...so I wanted to show and tell...
I hope my photo is not too large...

The photo of it is not that great, I didn't think to take a photo of it
BEFORE we gave it for a gift. I took a picture of it when it was hanging on our friend's wall...

This is more of my husband's cross-stitch
Ribbon Challenged: Cross-stitch

He also has sewn himself a suit, took half the roof off of our house,
(for adding a dormer--no he's not a carpenter)
embroidered, and he's a fabulous cook. I think he's a keeper!

Default Picture of twin grandbabies - Austin & Sydney with mmtpt130 cards

Hello everyone... I had a visit with my son Kyle and Carlie and the twin grand-babies - Austin and Sydney today... then my older sister Valerie and I brought the babies back to my house for 5 hours while their Mommy caught up on some much deserved sleep...

I took this picture of the babies with the wonderful teapot cards they have received. Kyle and Carlie are amazed at all the cards they have received from all you - people they don't even know and coming from all over the world. Carlie has been studying all the details of each and every card - she loves to scrapbook so knows how much time and effort goes into making these super adorable cards...

We want to thank you all so very, very much for taking the time to make and send these card to them.

Hugs.. Gramma Rose and the Graham family (Kyle, Carlie, big sister Kayla, Austin and Sydney)

Jill- you are sure one lucky woman to have a DH like yours. I'm pretty lucky too, mine makes my valentine, cleans and does his own laundry. He's quite handy too.

Pat- what beautiful grandbabies. I like that Sydney is sleeping, while Austin is ever so watchful.

Hello Mudder- No to the humvee. Just a Ford Ranger.

Mutnik- we had a hummer build a nest in the windchimes right out the front door last year. Oh what a joy to watch the whole process. The little one in my hand, this was it's second attempt at fledging, he ended up on the ground both times, with me rescuing him both times. Mama hummer was frantic the first time, since this little one was in the bushes. When that photo was taken, he landed on the walkway, so I got to hold it the second time. DH was around, so I made him take photos. That little one is just 3 weeks old. For about 5 weeks or so, I was pretty much glued to the binoculars and camera.

Here are a few photos from last year's nest in the windchimes

I left the nest there in case that particular hummer or her daughter (if one was a girl) wanted to use it again. They will sometimes use the same nest again, just adding on to it in subsequent years.

Wow Jennifer, way cool photos of those hummers. Don't think she thought out her placement very well. Wouldn't it be pretty noisy in that wind chime? hehe This is just super cool! TFS

Thanks for the nice comments in regard to my husband's cross-stitched owl..and Cathy, In answer to your question. "Does he clean?" No, oh how I wish, especiall when I working 50-6o hour work weeks, sure could have used some cleaning help then....smile...
but I WON'T LET HIM DO LAUNDRY! My favorite color is pink, but I didn't appreciate him turning my favorite WHITE blouse to pink when he did laundry...not to mention my sweater getting shrunk in the dryer...smile...

These are really neat pics, thanks for sharing. Two years ago, we had so many hummers in our back yard we couldn't count them all. But last year, we only saw a couple... and the sightings were so far apart...we were really disappointed.

Cathy aka Mutnik- Actually, hummers will quite often build their nest in windchimes. The bigger birds can't get in, and they are usually undercover. These windchimes rarely make noise due to where they are placed, they need a good north wind. They had just a few times, where they actually made noise last year. Then you just have to think of the birds getting rocked (nothing like in a tree though) and music to go along with it.

I didn't know anything about hummers until the nest last year. That's when I started researching them.

Here's the last photo I got of the 2 babies before the fledging. So sweet!

Waah - how could DH go off today and see all these OWLS and he didn't tell me that was where he was going!!! Still, I had a lovely morning out somewhere else, and he's promised to bring me there another day. I just thought I'd share a couple of his snaps since owls are it this week.

I thought this one was cool because it showed the head rotated right all the way round. Wouldn't you love to be able to do that - no stiff neck looking over your shoulder when you're driving, LOL.

And when he brings me we'll have my good cameras, not just the little point-and-shoot .

Grandma Pat... those babies are precious!
Jennifer... love your hummingbird photos... keep 'em coming!
Jill... sounds like you've got a keeper!
Sabrina... your DH took some great shots, can't wait to see your photos!

Here's what's happening where I live... the Labatt Blue U.P. Pond Hockey Championship. It's one of the largest pond hockey tournaments in North America and the only one played on one of the Great Lakes.

The first photo was taken yesterday, when games were canceled due to 40 mph winds. Rinks were open for practice only.

Hilda mentioned in her post the 40 mph winds we had in Michigan's U.P. here on Friday. This is now the view out my dining room onto my deck. I was sitting in the dining room Friday night and the top 2/3 of a huge old cedar tree in our backyard was hit by a gust of wind and broke off. It landed on the deck, mashed the railing and grill and hit just enough of the house to bend the gutter. It hit so hard that it knocked the picture on that wall crooked, not to mention that I jumped a few feet in the air when it hit.
In the first pic you can see what's left of the tree in the top right corner.

Sabrina- thanks for the wonderful photos of the owls. I've only seen barn owls flying overhead or on signs in the dark. These are way cool.

Hilda- Brrrr, you can have the cold, thank you, although my Mom says that our cold here is worse due the moisture in the air. I say cold is cold! I remember a very cold Christmas at the Grandparents in Owosso Mi. way back in the very early 60s, snow drifts as high as the house. They finally moved to Ca. in the mid 70s. Where's the warming huts? That's where I'd want to be.

Auntie Susan- Thank God you, your family, and house are fine. You got very lucky there. I can imagine the scare you got when that tree broke and fell. Just hearing on the news now of the high winds in that part of the country. Such a drastic winter for so many!

We've gotten snow down to just below 2,000 feet here. The county just north of us had a foot of snow, they haven't had that much since the 70s. None here and that's a good thing.

Be well Ladies!!

40mph winds - yikes! Susan, so glad your damage wasn't first. We used to be be excited when we had trees in the garden fall when we were kids, but I am sure our parents didn't like it so much, even when they didn't do any damage. Those skating photos are amazing. I enjoyed seeing those.

Susan....so glad that tree didn't come in the window and get you...We get those winds here couple times a yr and they can be real scary....and it's sad to lose trees that have been around for so long....kinda like a family member.....well, more dependable than some of my family but that's another story....heehee.....just glad that you are fine....

Sabrina....those owl photos are awesome...

This is the sunrise looking out the front of my house at 7:00 this morning - an hour ago. It's looking across the frozen bay of Lake Huron east toward Mackinac Island - about 7 miles away. The pic is a bit blurry, but it's only 7 degrees with strong east winds - so I was shivering and in a hurry when I took it.

Took this a week ago while going across the Straits of a Mackinac on the Mackinac Bridge going north from Michigan's Lower Peninsula to the U.P. It's looking east toward Mackinac Island with the reflection of the sun setting in the west. You can see the shipping channel that cuts through the ice in the middle of the straits under the bridge between Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.

This is a couple of minutes later as we turned onto our street - still looking at Mackinac Island in the east with the sunset reflecting off the Grand Hotel on the island - IRL the reflection was bright yellow.

Jennifer I am so enjoying all your hummer pics - brings a little spring time here in this cold. You have wonderful pics of them. Love you web cam sites too.

Sabrina - I can see why you're jealous your DH got to see the owls - these pics are wonderful. The one with the owl turing his head is fantastic.

Hilda, great pics of the Pond Hockey weekend here. So glad it turned cold again for all the hockey players. Looks like the ice bridge might last a bit longer now that it's turned cold again.

Susan, what a scare with the crashing tree! Glad no one was injured. Loved your sunrise puctures.

Susan, great sunrise and sunset photos, now get back inside where it's warm! Also, go have a pasty for my Mom and I. It's been a very long time since we've had one from that area. Wow, almost 40 years, we stocked up then, filling the camper's freezer.

Glad that you like the web cams, those are my cheap vacations!

I have something to share that MrsBoz sent me in an email this morning - and since I can't email all of you I figured I would share it on here!

Talk about Technology shock - this is incredible---

Something for the coming generations in technology from Corning , NY . Pretty exciting technology may be very close at hand.

Wow! Sue, that is amazing. I had to watch it a couple of times just to absorb all the things they were doing with glass. What's really amazing is, like you said, it may not be that far away from becoming a reality in our daily lives. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. That was so cool. And to think that it may be possible in my lifetime. How convenient that would be. TFS
