Taylored Expressions just wouldn't be able to do without our fabulous and talented design team, the Baker's Dozen. Many of you have seen our designers' wonderful and creative work during our monthly product releases and we would love for you to get to know them better. Each month, we'll introduce you to one of our lovely team members who will share some of their favorite projects, lend some helpful tips, or just plain get their crafty groove on here in the Forum! So, stop by, say 'hi,' and get acquainted with one of the best design teams around.
Joan is our newest member of our Baker's Dozen, but we love her so much it's as if she's been with us for ages! Her lovely, sweet, and creative projects are already big hits with our fans and we feel so lucky to have her. We can't wait to let Joan share a bit about her design process and more about herself in her own words below...
I was born and reared in Ames, Iowa....we moved to Texas in 1982 and now call it home. My hubby, George, and I have 5 children (3 are married), 12 Grands, 3 horses, 4 donkeys, 20 chickens (we had more but a raccoon had them for lunch one day) a barn cat and a Yorkie named Pumpkin. I am an RN and in my 30 year nursing career I have had many different jobs (mostly at the same hospital) but my favorite was teaching OB clinicals for the University of Mary Harden Baylor for several years before semi-retiring. I now spend most of my time reading, stamping, quilting, stamping, gardening, and stamping (not necessarily in that order!!)
We asked Joan to describe her stamping style and her design process, and this is what she told us:
What is my stamping style...itís all over the place!!! I love to create CAS designs, shabby chic, collage, lots of layers, no layers....I love it all!!! I usually start with a stamp set and papers....the sketch usually just develops as I play with the stamps and different papers and colors. I also like to check out the different sketch challenges and SCS challenges!! I like to start several different cards...I sometimes have 5 or 6 going at the same time. If I get stuck on one card, I just move to the next. I am so right brained that my mind canít function with a lot of structure...LOL!!!
We asked Joan to share her 3 favorite products carried in the TE Store:
I absolutely love Taylored Expressions Stamps...I have been a fan of TE ever since it was born 5 years ago. The stamps are sooo cute and I love the high quality rubber....I get the best stamped image every time!!! Another product I love is the foam tape....it comes in a large roll and I use it on almost every card!! I tend to panic if my supplies runs low...LOL!!! In addition to the stamps and foam tape, I canít live without Memento Tuxedo Black ink....I use it on every project and especially with my Copics. It never smears and dries dark.
~As always, we love finding out something unusual about our design team members and we asked Joan to share a little known fact about herself:
I am a real night owl....sometimes stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning stamping, watching old movies, and munching on pop corn. I guess thatís because I worked the night shift for over 16 years...old habits are hard to break!!! Needless to say, Iím not a morning person...I get up fairly early but my brain doesnít start functioning till noon!! I am also addicted to chocolate and iced tea....my two vices!! I get really cranky if I run out of either of them so my hubby keeps me well supplied.....LOL!!!
Well, we at TE absolutely adore our night owl, Joan. For more of her wonderful projects and creative style, visit her blog, Stamping With a Passion !

The smile on my face right now is as big as Texas!! Your delightful stamping genius caused me to include you as one of my most fave stampers years ago, and that will never ever change. Even better than that is knowing the amazing person you are from the inside - out. I know for a fact that you have long - oooooohed & ahhhhhhhhed over the newest TE collection even back to the earliest releases. I'm so tickled that now you get to make the rest of us do the ooooohing and ahhhhhhhing!
Oh Joan- Congrats for being chosen as a Bakers Dozen- how awesome is that! I have long admired your work and am thrilled to see you in the Spotlight. I love stopping by and seeing what you have created in your creative time, and am never disappointed!
What can I say about Joan? She's been one of my favorite stampers and one of my favorite people ever since I've known her! And that's been quite a while, huh, Joan? She's wonderfully kind, fabulously talented, and funny as can be! I absolutely love her and her exceptionally perfect creations! I'm so glad she's on the TE team so I can see what the "Queen of Embellishments" creates with all their great products! Love you, girlfriend!!
I have admired you for a very long time, Joan. Congrats on being in the spotlight as we all drool over the three designs you posted here. I am especially drawn to the fall scene with those gorgeous birch trees. Not only are you talented, you are a gracious hostess and kind with your comments.
