Default Pregnant Stampers Support...

I've been a member of the TTC support group for quite a long time. It actually took us four years and four months to concieve. I found out on December 10th that I am, in fact, pregnant for the first time ever. I have PCOS, which I have mostly under control, so I'm hoping that this pregnancy will be a good one considering that it took us so long to get here.

I am seeing a fertility specialist and I was told this cycle wasn't going to work. I actually concieved a week later (after the IUI was cancelled). I'm currently 5-1/2 weeks with an EDD of 8/15/08. We are so excited!

I had checked out the other pregnancy support group, but it looks like most of those ladies are much further in their pregnancies than I am. Also, it was 50+ pages long, so I would never be able to read back through everything.

Won't you join me!

Hi Jaci! I'm on the other preggo support group. Just wanted to let you know you're welcome to come on over! There's a lot of us due at different times. I think the latest one is in June. I wouldn't worry about reading back through all those pages either. Anyways, just wanted to let you know you're welcome to come over & chat! A lot of them are first time moms, and then there's some who have more than 1. Oh and a big CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I forgot to mention, I was afraid to join the thread too as I was only 5 weeks when I did and most of the girls were so much closer to being due. But they were all so nice and supportive, and all of a sudden I wasn't the only 2008 girl on the thread. Now they've all had their babies and I only have 4 1/2 weeks left.

Jaci-Maybe you should start a high risk pg or Pg after infertility (or loss) buddy group. I'd love to join either in a few months. On a break for now.

Hi Jaci!!! I thought I would join you over here!! I am curious, how long did it take before you had real pregnancy symptoms? Or have you had a very mild go of it so far? I think today is the first real day I can say that my breasts are finally tender. We have been going through the dilemma of "should we start telling anyone?" "If so, who, and when?" I am just scared to tell people and then have to come back later and say, we had a miscarriage. I am still really feeling just like this is a dream and not really happening to me. How about you?

Jaci is due mid August? I am due the end of August and Vanessa is due the middle of September? Did I get it right?

The nasua just started today, 6 weeks, good thing I have ginger ale in the pantry! The tender boobs started at 4 weeks. Been napping alot too.

We have not told anyone yet, just nervous since its early. We plan to tell my parents and then sister, next week, as it is my parents anniversary. I did have to spill the beans to a good friend that wants me to road trip across the country with her to help her move. Still deciding on whether or not to go. What do you think, should I go? Its from PA to AZ.

Heather-- a cross country road trip might be fun!! At what point in your pregnancy will the trip be? My DH has a convention in SF June 30-July 4th. If I can still fly at that point in my PG, I am going for sure!!!

My temp software says my due date would be September 11th--EGADS!!! My DH said we are inducing that kid early!!! I am just happy I'll be on maternity leave during Xmas!!! Whew! That will be such a relief!

Ok, you have made me feel better. I virtually have no early PG symptoms and that was starting to make me worry a bit. I have moments of tiredness. And then I will be wide awake at weird times in the morning, like this morning for instance. I can't sleep and finally just decided to get up.

Vanessa and heather, glad you joined me! I was considered four weeks and 3 days when I found out. I had a little nausea two days before that, but after I found out I was so tired and took a nap every day that week. My boobs don't feel too tender. They have felt worse when I was going to get AF than they do now. It may be because I'm used to it too. Right now it only really bothers me when they are unleashed (they're D to DD). I've yet to throw up, but the nausea is getting worse. Some days it hardly bothers me and other days it's terrible. Yesterday was one of those days and so was last sunday.

I still really feel like I am in a dream about the whole thing. I've told quite a few people by now, but I haven't really made a point to call anyone (but my great aunt who just passed away) to tell them. If I'm around them, I will tell. But my situation is a little different than yours. I tried for soOOOO long that I ended up telling my whole TTC story and struggles when someone asked if I had kids. Since I don't get much non-professional interaction with people at work, when I have stamp classes or meet with friends, I am very talkative. I feel that if I would have a miscarriage I would feel better telling everyone about it than keeping it to myself. My friend that is due in Feb on the other hand had a surprise pregnancy in 2003 and I'm the only person she ever told about her pregnancy or miscarriage. She is VERY close with her mom and she didn't even tell her. They also didn't tell ANYONE about this pregnancy until after 12 weeks. I have another friend who would have been due in Feb, but had a miscarriage at 12 weeks and is 11 weeks pregnant again and she's telling everyone about this pregnancy already. She works with MIL now and she was showing her U/S pics the other day. I think I would definitely wait to tell if I had just had a miscarriage, but the first pregnancy is so exciting and you have no idea how it's going to go. I just couldn't wait to tell our parents because I was in such shock and disbelief that I couldn't hold it in. It all depends on your personality.

As for the road trip, when will it be? I went to pittsburgh from near harrisburg last friday which is a four hour trip one way to visit my great aunt and it seemed very long. I was so tired when I got home. I didn't even drive that trip. But I'm making that trip again tomorrow to attend my great aunt's viewing and I will be driving. At least my sister will be with me, so if I get too tired to drive, we can switch.

Heather, where you at in PA?

pregnancy symptoms I forgot to mention.
Constipation and acne.
My face and back are covered with acne. I didn't have it nearly as bad as this pre-pregnancy. But constipation is the worst. For a while I was even going once a day (a good clean your system out...) and after supper in the evening, I would get a crampy feeling in my lower abdomen from gas and constipation. I had it bad the first week after I found out and then it was getting better for the 2 middle weeks, but this week has been horrible. I can hardly even go. You are certainly going to get cramping (mild, not the kinds with AF). DON'T worry about it. If you don't have any bleeding and you are not doubled over in pain, it means there is nothing wrong. It is either constipation, gas or your uterus stretching.

I'm only 8 weeks and I already had to buy bigger pants. I went through all of my "fat close" the size I wore last year before I lost weight and now I'm already up to the next size! Lucky for me I wear sweats to work. I haven't really gained any weight yet, but I'm already getting rounder. My existing stretch marks are already starting to get pink. My friend is 7 months and she doesn't have any stretch marks! SO NOT FAIR!

I didn't think you were supposed to get bigger until you started the second trimester!!! But I know what you mean already!!! I have found out if I drink soda, or even have a salty meal, my stomach ALREADY bloats out like I am 5 months or more PG. I also noticed my butt is bigger!!! Yikes!!! I am going to have to really watch the sugars and salt intake now that I see how quickly it affects me. I am going to Borders today to get the magazine "Fit Pregnancy" just to get ideas on what is safe that I can do. I don't know that I will be able to keep this a secret for 12 weeks at work if I continue to balloon up!!

Yes, i get bloated too! and I think I have gained a pound or two, which is great for me, since i'm small. Pants are feeling snugger.

As for the nasua, its currently just that, occasionally I will heave but nothing productive. Apparently lemons or sour stuff is supposed to help. I'm not eating lemons so I will have to get some lemonade.

i get indigestion and constipation a little but not the acne...yet. And yes I do get an occassional cramp. I also found a lump in my breast, however it went away in a day. I mentioned it to the Dr and he said most likely pg related and only to be concerned if it lasted. I also felt a marble size lump on my left side down by my uterus area. That freaked me out, it also went away but it took a couple of days. Dr. said most likely a cyst since I was on the fertility drugs.

The proposed road trip is the end of January. I've never been to the southwest before, just texas. It will be two drivers so it shouldnt be too bad.

I live in the milford/dingmans area.

Default Heather, I think I asked you that before...

now that you mention dingman, I remember that. My parents have a cabin near dingman falls.

I'm in my third month and I have to tell you...the nausea has gotten much worse! It pretty much lasts all day now and when I smell certain things, I immediately start gagging. I have not thrown up yet, but I was never one who did that much unless I had the stomach flu. This AM, though, I did have dia... instead. I spent all of yesterday on the road and I was absolutely miserable. The pressure of the seat belt on my abdomen created so much discomfort and the smell of public restrooms and the funeral home completely made me sick! I certainly won't be taking any road trips for the next month. I can't do the dishes or take out the garbage without gagging and the thought of cooking food makes me feel so sick. I have so much to do this week, it's going to be a miracle if I get it all done!

Jaci, here I am worried that I am not feeling all of that, and you are having a terrible time!! Hope it only lasts the first trimester!! I worked with a gal who had morning sickness all 9 months!! Throwing up and the whole bit!! After work I have to go and get my blood tested again to make sure my pregnancy levels are increasing. Keep me in your happy thoughts!!

Congratulations Jaci & Vanessa! I am so excited for you both, since I was on the trying to conceive thread a while ago and then lurking more recently. I found out I was pregnant right before Christmas and it totally doesn't feel real (especially since my first doctor's appointment isn't until next week). This is actually the first time I've "told" anyone! My DD is 8/29/08.

Question for you all: any thoughts/opinions on all the optional genetic/diagnostic testing at various times in the first two trimesters? I haven't really read up on it yet but am interested to hear what others have done/will do.

It is interesting you brought this up. I was going to talk to my DR about it on the 23rd. I read that instead of the amniosenteses (sp), there is a new blood test they can do which is less invasive and doesn't have the possible issues an amnio has. I am really on the fence about it at this point. It makes me mad that, once you over 35, they scare you about everything with regards to getting and being pregnant. I just don't want to add another thing to the plate. My DS was told that my nephew was a mongoloid, and he turned out to be a normal, healthly big headed kid--lol. I just don't know what to think.

Mullycat ~ We opted out of all genetic testing. At one point, it looked from an ultrasound like he might have a soft sign of Down's Syndrome so we had another ultrasound a month later and he looked totally normal. The deciding factor for us was that there isn't anything they can do if they find indications of a problem.

Just an invite to everyone to feel free to ask questions on the other thread even if you all feel more comfortable chatting here. Having people further along to check on things really helped me to feel more comfortable with my pregnancy.

I'm so happy for all of you!!!!

Default Thanks for popping in Paula!

You're getting down to the end here, so exciting. Be sure to update us when you and baby are both safely at home!

I haven't discussed or researched genetic testing, etc. Since I'm only 25, and there is no history of genetic disorders in either of our families, I don't believe that I will opt to do them. I know that it can be a requirement for testing if you are over 35 and I would recommend it then. A friend from the TTC thread had to go through all of that because she is 38. Everything is fine and they were even able to figure out the baby's sex early!

And that is one of my biggest issues with the testing. Especially with the amnio. They usually wait to do that one once you are 5 months along. At that point, there is nothing you can do about it, then you are left with 4 months of feeling down. Plus, I have to wonder if they do it more for "research" purposes than anything. If it is simple bloodwork, then, I don't have a problem. The amnio, I think I will pass. I read that one of the possible downfalls of amnio is that it can cause a miscarriage.

Congrats, I don't know if I offered congrats to you yet.

I can offer some points of view on the genetic/diagnostic testing:

One question to ask is, "what would you do with the information". Personally (and this is a very personal decision for everyone to make on their own) I would not terminate the pregnancy, and given that there is a false negative and false positive aspect to the tests, I figured I would skip the testing all together. (False negative and false positive simply mean that it may not detect anything, or that the results may indicate a problem that is not there)

Another perspective is that parents want to know to make a decision whether or not to continue with the pregnancy based on the severity of the diagnosis at hand.

Another perspective is that parents want to know what the risks of problems are so that they can be prepared for what may be in store for their child. For example, if the child may have Downs Syndrome they may want to be as prepared as possible with what to expect, what interventions they will need for their newborn, etc.

A nurse that I work with recently relayed a situtation where she thought it was the best promotion of the testing. A mother of 5 children was giving birth and she knew that it was a baby with downs syndrome. The nurse said that when that baby was born the mom scooped it up and loved it immediately, and that since she knew and had prepared for what the child would be like, there was no "moment of awkward silence" or confused look on the parents faces if they had learned about it only at the child's birth . . .

I am sure there are other things to consider as well, but that may be some food for thought . . . .

That is true, and there are situations where amnios are medically indicated, but you always have the right to ask what the risk of miscarriage is and make a decision for yourself if that is the best course of action for you and your baby.

Thank you so much, everyone, for the input on the testing issue and sharing your thoughts and experiences. I hadn't really looked at it from all the perspectives (thanks for pointing them out Kristina!) and I have a better understanding now.

Hi ladies!! I had CVS testing done early in this pregnancy (12 weeks) due to age (yeah... I'm the 38-yr old jaci told you abt ) - for me it was wanting to know for sure ASAP so that my DH & I could make an informed decision before things were too far along and to prepare ourselves as we needed to. The procedure itself really wasn't too bad - the waiting was the hardest part... when they took the placenta sample they weren't able to get very much due to positioning so the results took a little longer than usual (abt 2 weeks for us, sometimes only 1 week for some).

I also had AFP testing at abt 16 weeks to check for neural tube defects. and as someone else said - you get to know the sex of the baby for sure almost 2 months before others find out and there is no uncertainty about whether there are 2 lines or 3 on the ultrasound!!

Good luck!! and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have!! yuko

Hi all!! Called the DR's office and they said my PG hormone skyrocketed. So, now I just have to wait until the 23rd for my first ultrasound. More waiting

Hi ladies... joining in here!!!
I am due in August... 7-8 weeks...

I have a lot of the same things going one, all day morning sickness, boobs hurting, and sooo sleepy!

And how is your SEX LIFE??? My poor hubby!!! This is our third, and by far, I am so worn out already!

I do a home daycare and running after 6) 2 year olds is crazy right now. I am on a medication for the throwing up... F-tan... works wonders and is safe for baby!

I think I am crazy, but I feel my tummy getting bigger- like I side, it is my 3rd, so I don't know if I am trying to say that is baby weight or just me gaining... (last check up, I was down 10lbs so who knows)

Good luck to you wonderful gals!!!

Hi Laura!! I am hanging in there. Counting down the days to my first ultrasound. I will be so glad when these first 3 months are over!! I have to say, I am just worried about everything being ok. So far, no other symptoms other than boobs hurting, occassional hot flash, and sleeplessness at night. No nausea or over tiredness. But, I am only 4 weeks, so, it may still be yet to come!!!
We decided to start telling people. I am hoping it will make me feel better to talk about it and maybe not let me dwell on what "could" happen. I have already told my family and I think we are making the road trip this weekend to tell his side. I am thinking I will feel better once I see the doctor. Maybe get some reassurance since this is my first and I have no clue what to expect at all!!!

I felt good for about 1 week after I found out. Then out of nowhere I was throwing up, boobs hurt and such. If you think of everything that could happen, you will drive yourself nuts, so don't stress! I am sure it'll be okay- I am still early too- 7 weeks. We told people because my 6 year old can't not say anything after hearing dad and I talk.
Enjoy it- there are plenty of PG ladies that don't get sick, I am not so lucky! Off to get daycare kids fed!

Default I'm back...

I have off on Wednesdays over the winter, but I had so many errands to run yesterday, I'd probably rather been at work. I was so tired last night, I slept from 8 PM to 7 AM! I'm getting nauseaus every hour like clock-work. I didn't get my taxes balanced to settle yesterday, but everyone was pretty understanding about it for the most part. One lady I deal with is always on my case, but she did email me to apologize this AM. She thinks that I need to treat this like my full time job, but when you only gross less than $10,000 I certainly cannot do that. My business has to come first.

I have no clue about baby names so far! For a girl I was thinking Jayla Marie Thoman, but for a boy, I don't know. At least DH really wants to find out, so we can narrow down the search by sex anyway. I just had a new customer come in and his first name was Lavere. That's really different. I don't think I've ever heard it before. I have always liked having an unusual name (even though most people mispronounce it). It's great to be the only person with your name in your class at school! I've only met 6 or so people with my name and only one spelled it the same as I do. I was thinking about Jayden for a boy, but I want something more masculine.

I know it is kinds weird but when I was expecting w/ DD (now 6) my grandfather had passed away- and I remember being at the grave site and we were reading the head stones- there are some neat older generation names that I loved.
Jayden is cool- I have heard that for both boy or girl..

Our kids so far are Gabrielle (Gaby) and Kadyn (girl) - And no one spells it correct and they sometimes call her Katie... but I love both of our girls names.
I'm ready for boy names now... just waiting and praying I guess!

Oh my gosh, I haven't even started thinking of names yet! We haven't even told our families (and I hope they don't find out they we've already each told a few friends... and the whole internet universe now with this thread!) Speaking of names, Jaci - how is your name pronounced? Is it jay-see or another way?

Random question, but when do you usually get your first ultrasound picture?

OMG, the nausa, v'ting and headaches are so bad for the last three days! Getting sick at 10pm at night, sucks. My parents and sister all think that I have the flu or some bug b/c I have not been feeling well. Surprise on them!

We were supposed to take out my parents for their anniversary tonight and tell them, but my parents didnt want to go out, so I guess I have to go visit and tell them this weekend instead.

I got to hear the heartbeat the other day, 124 bpm, so cool! Makes it all the more real.

And you said it started around the 6th week, right?? I better get to eating all I can before then!! LOL!!!

I have always loved the name Sophia for a little girl. That name topped the list of baby girl names for 2007. So, I might have to start looking around for more. I just love really ethnic sounding names, especially Italian and Greek names. For boys, the first name will be Dallas--it is my DH's family name, we will then have to figure out a middle name, which is what he would go by. you know, I have to admit, I am still just in this surreal world--can't believe it finally happened!

Default hi...

I had my first ultrasound just shy of 8 weeks and that's when I got pictures and to hear the heartbeat. Ours was 175 bpm which i'm told means a girl. Lower means a boy. I'm having another U/s at the RE's office on Wed before I switch to the Ob. I'll be just shy of 10 weeks on wed. I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow already. Three more weeks and I won't be so tired and I can relax a bit. Anyone else on progesterone supplements? My prog was low becaues I ov'ed late, so I've been on a supplement. I have to take it till 11 weeks and then I can quit when the placenta takes over producing prog. I'm going tomorrow night to buy a bella band so I can wear my regular pants hanging open! I still haven't thrown up yet, but food is just causing me issues. I think the constipation has gotten better.

My name is pronounced Jay-see. My dad had a friend in High school that dated a girl with that name, so he always wanted to name a daughter that if he had one.

This sucks so bad! I didn't have any of my taxes balanced (I'm a tax collector) when I had to go to my appts to settle on wednesday. I had updates that I needed to do to my program, but I couldn't get ahold of the programmer, so I just proceeded with the way I balanced before. I did all of the updates yesterday and wouldn't you know it, all of the totals for my uncollected taxes list were incorrect on the report and with the corrected numbers, one of my 3 finally balances!!!!! All this undue stress and it wasn't even my fault!
