Stampin Woman 07-31-2004 08:35 AM

Yes there are more......
I edited out about 1/4 of what was there due to content and also I edited some out because they were things we would just never use here on SCS - but computer junkies use them -
for example:
RYO means write your own program.
TFH - means thread from H### (one that just won't quit and has nothing to do with anything) (we don't do that here - haha lol)
BOF - Bunch of Floppies or
BOD- Bunch of disks

Things like that (see what I mean)

cot10girl 07-31-2004 08:41 AM

Here are a couple we use:

When we retire from running our own business all the worries will be
SEP (somebody else's problem)

Because our kids are extremely smart and very good looking (no bias here) we say it's
GSM (genetically superior material)

Kerrikay 07-31-2004 08:50 AM

It is also good to know all of those acronyms if you have a teenager with a cell phone. They like to text message each other and often times it is in code. I don't have a teenager, but I know those who do and they have to learn another language to keep up!

lesliemommy 07-31-2004 09:47 AM

We use these alot on my mommy boards

OHT one handed typing
KWIM? know what I mean?
BRBBC be right back baby crying
OOMM Out of my mind
TTYL talk to you later

HTH Hope that helps

schrades 08-01-2004 06:17 AM

How about TBD = too busy disorder! Heard that last night on a Ellen Degeneris special!

Sarah Carpenter 08-01-2004 06:23 AM

What is ISO?

ldidge 08-01-2004 06:29 AM

ISO = In search of

Used when looking for a particular item to buy or trade.

Linda :D

Cate 08-01-2004 06:38 AM

This is not on the SCS website but in my house we have a lot of:
TLA's - three letter abbreviations
the best being:

RTM - Read The Manual (applies to any case of idiocywhen directions aren't followed - and usually applied to DH)

BTW (by the way), just for the pedantic (like me), most of those mentioned are TLAs, not acronyms, which according to the dictionary are words made up out of abbreviations. So RADAR (a pronouncable word) is an acronym and IBM (not really pronuncable), is not.

Comes of growing up in a house of English teachers!

Stampin Woman 08-01-2004 06:55 AM

thanks Cate for the english lesson and yes you are correct - these actually should be called TLA's

more that I though of is:
FS-for sale
FT-for trade
FSoT or FS/T - For sale or trade

So who out there is going to compile this list so that we will have one long list to post to the "getting started" discussion - so that newbies can find it right away. LOL

kathleenh 08-01-2004 07:11 AM

SKW- Stamping Kind of Way
As in I love you in a SKW.

row4d 08-02-2004 05:32 AM

Another one I picked up from message boards is ITA, for "I totally agree".

jbalcer 08-02-2004 06:23 AM

And if you want to know the origins of SKW - Beate & I started using that one here because someone asked about our relationship. So we love things, but in a purely skw, of course!

Just thought you needed to know that vital bit of background on it. . . probably TMI (too much information)!

sharshee 08-02-2004 06:30 AM

How about THO in relation to workshops?

jbalcer 08-02-2004 06:33 AM

THO = Totally Hands-On

sharshee 08-02-2004 07:12 AM

Thank you!! :D I could not figure that one out!!

norwaytroll 08-02-2004 07:33 AM

If you have a teenager...how about MOMS?
I thought she was talking about me to her friends...NOT!
It means "Mom over my shoulder!" AAAGGGHHH!
You bet I am! LOL!

teewrex75 08-02-2004 07:35 AM

I have a teenager who programs and he thinks I'm OOTL (out of the loop) because I always have to ask him what this stuff means! He thinks he is so cool.

Cate 08-02-2004 01:53 PM

Norway Troll,
Thanks for the heads up about "MOMS" - my "thinks she's a teenager" daughter will not be so ahead of me now! Are there any other important ones forthis age group?

That works too!

iwasborn2stamp 09-07-2004 07:10 AM

Here's a few I haven't seen yet, but I am speed reading.

TTFN = Tata for now (Tigger's favorite!)

TIA = Thanks in advance

OTOH = On the other hand

Great list so far!
Keep 'em coming!
NY Nan

MoberKitty 09-07-2004 07:29 AM

many thanks!
This is fantastic! I'm new to the forum community and was a little confused on some of the abbreviations. Thanks so much for clearing this up! You ladies ROCK!!!

I was told it meant: Copy and Steal Everything
However, I've come to the conclusion that unless I'm using someone else's acutal card/scrapbook page/handmade item without giving them credit, them I'm NOT stealing, just sharing or selectively editing.

This is added to explain the "editting" later on in this post.

Thanks NorwayTroll. I knew she was talking about me and hiding something from me but wasn't sure. I'm going to have to learn to speed read as I walk by this computer!!!!

tazadecafe 09-25-2004 01:13 PM

I have "P.M.S." constantly....LOL

Cassandranet 10-12-2004 10:47 PM

It took me a while as a newbie to figure out a lot of them. Like,

SAHM - stay at home mom
RAK - Random Acts of Kindness

I still don't know what BRAK is?

STAMPINSTEL 10-13-2004 12:52 AM

It is Birthday random act of kindness !
