Default What are the sistah's reading?

LOL, I'm not reading anything currently, but thought I would start a thread. I thought of it last night when I saw a commercial for the Stephanie Plum movie "One for the Money". I adore that book series and I'm hoping the movie doesn't let me down.

So.....what are you reading right now?

Yep, I'm reading it on my Kindle - saves me lugging around giant books!

I haven't watched any of the HBO series but I might have to have a peak, I wonder if it's out on DVD yet...?

I will shamefully admit that I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse trashy vampire novels (I'm on book 5)

I'm taking a break from them right now though and I'm currently reading Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

I've read the Sookie Stackhouse novels too as well as the Stieg Larson trilogy. I really enjoyed both of them for completely different reasons!

I read one Sookie Stackhouse novel. It's an acquired taste. At first, I didn't like it, but by the end of the book I realized I had a good time.

I'm almost afraid of seeing "One for the Money". I worry that it will ruin my Stephanie Plum experience. I've not finished reading the series on my bookshelf. I'm trying to savor them slowly. LOL (What a fun read they are!)

I just finished up Joseph Finder's "Company Man" and I'm currently reading the cute, but cheesy, "Dead Down Under", a travel murder mystery by Maddy Hunter.

My bookshelf is overflowing, but I'm always on the lookout for a good murder mystery to put on my "wish" or "reminder" list. It can be a light-hearted who-dunnit ("Shop Till You Drop" by Elaine Viets) a deep, driven police procedural ("The Poet" by Michael Connelly) or anything in between. I don't use a Kindle or other electronic reader. If I did, I wouldn't have to worry about always losing my place! LOL

These days, I get all of my books used from Paperback Swap: Trade Used Books for Free with PaperBack Swap (the world's largest book swap)

I've just finished "V is for Vengance" by Sue Grafton - a woman PI series. You can read your way through the whole alphabet and get to know the characters who are in all her stories. I really enjoyed them all (from A to V! LOL) Before that I read Barbara Kingsolver's "Prodigal Summer", which was a lovely read.

I've read all of Sue Grafton's books, too; fun reads all of them.

Kingsolver's "Prodigal Summer" was excellent, and in my opinion the only good work of fiction she's written to date.

Michael Connelly is one of my husband's favorite authors. If you enjoy Connelly check out Jeffrey Deaver, another of my husband's favorites.

I agree re Barbara Kingsolver, Rosie. I found "The Poisonwood Bible" heavy going, but as I grew up in Africa I could appreciate the authenticity of the story line. My DH, who never usually reads fiction, really enjoyed it. Go figure ...! LOL

If you enjoyed Sue Grafton's books Rosie, you will also enjoy Charlaine Harris' series featuring Lily Bard. They are similar.

Michael Connelly is one of my favs, too. I love his Harry Bosch character, but my favorite is still "The Poet" (got an autographed hardcover on my bookshelf). It was extremely well written. He's a talented author and a former cops reporter for the LA Times. I've read a couple Deaver novels and like them both. They probably do appeal mostly to men, but I tend to be a "cross reader". LOL

Lily Bard is now on my Must Check Out list, thank you, Tilly!

I read Poisonwood Bible, too, and I agree with that it was heavy and often times slow. Kingsolver really showed off her writing chops on this one, though, but I think she dropped the ball big time with the ending.

You might want to consider a Kindle. Wasn't sure if I was going to like it at first because there is something about the feel and the smell of a real book , but my husband got me the Kindle as a gift and I adore it! If you are looking for other Janet Evanovich reads, I would be happy to send you the few paperbacks I have. Thanks for all the reading suggestions too!

I just finished Book One in the Game of Thrones series. It's not my usual style but I've already bought book two on my nook - book one was a paperback. It's so nice to instantly have the next one in the series. I'm usually more of a historical fiction kind of girl.

Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson. Can't hardly put it down. Excellent continuation of the Dune prequels.

I think this one is next up for me in the series. its been awhile since I've read them but should finish!

Currently, I'm reading Daytripper. Its a good graphic novel about a guy who writes obituaries, and each chapter has a different ending for his own life. Daytripper:Amazon:Books

I am currently reading "The Serpent's Tale" by Ariana Franklin. It is second in the "Mistress of the Art of Death" series and I love it! No, it's not about the occult or vampires or anything like that. One of the reviews described it as "Canterbury Tales" meets CSI and that's a pretty fair description. Think Bones set in medieval England. If you like historical fiction and/or Bone/CSI type stories, you will probably enjoy the series.

This book takes awhile to get to the good stuff. The first half is almost like 2 seperate books. Its odd but once you get Lisbeth and Michael on the same page it goes quickly and its a good series. I really liked them but I do know a lot of people had a hard time getting into it

I love reading! I have a Nook, not a Kindle as I see lots of you do. Same idea though. I have read more since I got the first one (I’ve had every model and now have the Tablet) than I did in the past 2 years. Its too easy to just buy a book and start reading.

I’m from Hamilton New Jersey (and used to hang out in the burg ALL the time) so I know all the streets and towns that are in the Stephanie Plum series so I really like those. I am not thrilled with the cast in the movie though so I don’t know if I’ll see it. We’ll see.

I just read the High Heeled series by Gemma Halliday. Its cute, same idea as Stephanie Plum in some ways. I also read the Betwitching Series by Madelyn Alt. Those were cute too.

I am currently reading “Prosecuting Casey Anthony” by Jeff Ashton. I watch court stuff on TV all the time and watched quite a bit of the trial. I was curious to see what he had to say and what I might have no heard, or heard incorrectly on TV regarding the case. Its interesting.

Just finished Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. The book has been on my shelf forever and I just never got around to it. Once I did I could not put it down.

Next on my list is The Virgin Cure by Ami McKay. I read The Birth House, by the same author, and really enjoyed it so I thought I would give this a try.

Default What am I not readiing?

I'm a voracious reader. I just finished both volumes the Joel C. Rosenberg, The Twelfth Imam and the The Tehran Initiative. If you like espionage, middle east type stuff is a great adventure ride and you learn a lot about Islam and what's going on there. It's fiction, but it's scarily like what we see in the news.

I also read all that I can get on my Nook by Jill Mansell. British author, chick lit with a great sense of humor.

If you liked the Steig Larsson books, check out Taylor Stevens. She's new and I'm just finishing her second book The Innocent.

I'm afraid I could go on for hours. If you are a reader, look into joining GoodReads. It's free and a little like facebook for readers.

I just finished The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins--it's going to be a movie in March, and I always like to read the book before I see the movie. I'm a high school librarian, so the vast majority of what I read is books for teens, but I did just read #17 of the Stephanie Plum books just for me

I know that I could never read this series because I could not take the names of places I could to pronounce. BUT...I listened to them on Audible. LOVED THEM ALL!
