Default Toaster Ovens

What do I look for in a toaster oven? I've never had one, have used once twice in my life!

What can a toaster oven do besides toast English muffins or Crumpets as Momofmany calls them (anyone converse with her anymore)?

Is there a brand that is preferred?

We had one when we were first married, but honestly didnt use it enough so got rid of it when we moved. I like my smaller toaster that can be tucked away easily. I hate clutter and it was just one more thing on the counter. We just use the oven, I have 2 of those already, so I don't think I needed a third.

I used it for anything that I could fix in the oven. It died during the 2009 ice storm! When I was making cornbread for the crockpot black-eyed pea soup. So...we fired up the grill and "cooked" the cornbread on that!

But, I disgress.

I used it for anything that would fit in it that I could also bake / cook in the oven.

Handy. I currently do not own one.

We use ours all the time! We have a Cuisinart convection oven/toast oven that is WONDERFUL! I highly recommend the convection oven, even though it's more expensive, because everything cooks faster. It sits on our countertop. I think we bought it at Lowe's or Home Depot. We cook chicken breasts and meat. I toast bread in it. Ours has a pizza bake button that we just realized was there after five years of using it. LOL! There are just two of us so it's perfect for us when we don't want to heat up the big oven.

We have a toaster oven instead of a toaster. With three little kids sometimes I need to cook something for them and don't want to heat up the oven. I bake fries in it, cook hamburgers, fish sticks, reheat pizza, along with all my normal toasting needs. It's good for toasting nuts, too. I just have a plain old Black and Decker and there's nothing special about it, but the price was right - about $35.

I thought I would live without my toaster oven till I didn't have one. I was so happy to see that the house I'm renting in FL had one. Toaster is nice, but I use my toaster oven much more. You can't melt cheese on top of an English Muffin in a toaster. I like it better for melting cheese on sandwiches even better than doing it in a microwave. The muffin stays toastie rather than getting soggy. I also use it when I am baking small items so I don't have to heat up the whole oven. When I move it will be one of the first things I buy for the kitchen.
