Why doesn't this person think to purchase herself some paddles?
Sounds like an item for anti procrastination day!

I wasn't trying to say that anyone would die from it. What I was trying to say, and not very well I have to admit after re-reading my post, is that these ladies would go a bit mad or act a bit differently than the "normal" and they would be called a witch and be hanged or burned as being a witch. Now we have antibiotics which will take care of the issues that might occur. So we don't have to worry about it so much now.

I have used the McCanns and microwaved it for...whatever the instructions told me to...(maybe 3 minutes, I can't remember). I enjoyed it even though I don't normally like oatmeal. Quaker oatmeal (the staple of our area) used to make me, um..spill my cookies. It was totally a textural thing. I have tried the Quaker since childhood and I still have a textural thing with it but the McCanns was not an issue. Just my opinion

I know...Kinda interesting. They also had beans that did the same thing. Sometimes the grains/beans will get wet and that can cause the problem. I wish I could remember what it was that they got from them but alas I cannot.

So many women and men as well were killed as witches when in fact they were just sick. That part is kinda sad.

Now microwave it...I can nuke it! I hope it doesn't kill the benefits of steel cut oats buy nuking it in the microwave.

45 minutes is a long time to cook oatmeal for breakfast.

I was thinking about that part a few moments ago as I was posting a response to your clarification. I agree.

I don't think there's any such thing as a "witch" as they thought in the days they hung them / burned them @ the stake. I think it was paranoid people. And folks afraid of those that were different, for whatever reason.

I totally agree with you. I do not believe in witches, as you said. I do agree with you that there were and still are for that matter people who were afraid of people who are different than themselves.

Oh I was taught about the witch hunts as most people were. This was a tidbit I ran across doing research for something totally different. I seem to find and remember the goofy things.

Did you know that if you don't cook dried beans long enough for them to truly cook that they "explode" in your stomach and cause you to vomit? Please don't experiment with this as it is very painful...

I'm thinking brown sugar & a chopped up apple in my warm steel cut oats.

OK. Where do you get wheat to grind? Why would you grind your own wheat?

BTW...where do you find STEEL CUT OATS in Wal-mart? What brand. I guess it tastes better than say...Quaker instant oatmeal, right?
All right, everyone likes oatmeal their own way. But, I have heard that the less processed it is the better it is for you because the more processed it is the easier it is broken down into sugar in your body. But, I've also heard that any oatmeal is better than say a sugary donut. I do like steal cut oats, but I don't like how long they take to cook!
I use the 5 min cooking kind .I dont like soupy oatmeal so. Heres what I do. I mix half milk(skim, whole, soy....) with half the water called for . Bring it to a boil then add the oatmeal and let cook for 5 min. Then I add half again as much oatmeal to the pot (so if your using 1 cup then add another half cup....), stir put on the lid and let sit for 5 min. Yum O!
I also like to make a fresh compote while waiting. I chop up and apple put it in a pan with a little water let it cook a few minutes add brown sugar, cinnamon, butter and or walnuts to taste. Top your oatmeal with this and WOW! Yummy!

Um...no.

We more worry about the...gas is-shoe. So I soak in hot ginger water and I cook them with a little ginger. Helps.

I doubt I could eat beans that are hard & not cooked.

Yummy!
I think you're right about the less processing a food can go through the better for you for sure.

If it will get rid of the paste-y texture I'll have to try it. DH loves oatmeal, the Quaker kind. He does use the 5 minute kind so we do keep that in stock. Thanks for sharing that idea.

Coffee break! All this talk of coffe and pumpkins made me want a cup o'joe with some pumpkin creamer. Call me crazy but I actually prefer this to a Starbucks pumpkin spiced latte!
