I'm sure this have been asked & answered...but I'm so NOT happy with SU! basic black ink. NEW foam pad...just purchased not six months ago! And it is DRY! boo.

So. What's your go to black ink?

:D

Scraperwannabe 01-03-2013 02:51 PM

Memento Tuxedo Black hands down... I tried about 8 different ones before getting this one & I haven't changed since.

:D  Am I correct to assume that you get good even coverage on more solid images (remember, I don't color.)

For example, a frame or a speech bubble with writing inside it.

ohmypaper! 01-03-2013 03:04 PM

I am with Misti!!!! I really do like my Tuxedo Black. I hear the ladies raving about the COLOR box MFT inks and how awesome their coverage is on solid stamps. I haven't tried it yet, I THINK they have black now.

I am hurting my brain trying to think if I have used my tuxedo black on a big solid stamp..... trying to think if i have one to try for you and send you a pic.

I have been very happy with my black though.....

if I come up with something I will take a pic!

I found this: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...s-t507848.html

someone could not get a solid stamp to stamp the black crisply. Tuxedo Black is mentioned as is mrslaird's chalk ink.

You can see it worked pretty well on the tree.

That's the first time i ever inked the snowman...and I think you are supposed to press your hand on the paper instead of press the rubber down on the paper to get a better imprint on larger stamps...but I didn't do it...I just did it the normal way...it's a big stamp.

Memento Tuxedo Black as I'm sure has been stated by others. ;)

For a really dark black, if it's either a solid image or if I'm going to watercolor it, then Versafine Onyx. But 99 times out of 100, Memento.

ETA - Most of the time I use the Memento even on solid stamps, but the versafine is darker and more solid. I have never like SU Basic Black. It's weird.

I haven't tried the Momento but I do like my StazOn Jet Black.

I did use StazOn Jet Black...but it didn't cover well this time..I also reinked the pad.

I used the old SU black...boo. I used the new SU black...DRY! boo. I used a Palette Hybrid...not any better than the old SU black.

I settled on StazOn Jet Black...it was OK...but I wasn't happy with the coverage. I think it's the stamps & I need something different for the clear stamps.

The StazOn made the stamps too sticky.

mrslaird 01-03-2013 03:59 PM

StazOn is not really good for your stamps. It's great for what it does and it absolutely has a place in your craft room, but if you're stamping on paper, I'd personally use something else.

Scraperwannabe 01-03-2013 04:57 PM

The smell of StazOn gives me a migraine!

It smelled really familiar and I couldn't figure out what it was! Then one day it came to me! Vick's cough drops! REALLY STRONG Vick's cough drops! And, yes, I get a headache with it too! Not a migraine...but a very bad head!

Memento Tuxedo Black gets my vote. I didn't like SU black even in the old form.
i went back and looked at some images a year later and they had turned a purplely blue. Never used it again after that.

I can't smell my brown stazon but my black actually smells like ameretto! Weird.

What I do is click "email" at the top of the page in your picture folder. When Outlook pops up I choose to email a large photo (rather than the small ones or the original size). Then, instead of emailing them I right click on the photo file in the email and "save as" in whatever folder I want to save them.

Did any of this make sense or was it all gibberish like I think it is?!

I'll have to try that!

I was gonna suggest using Picassa (Google)...and somewhere in the photo edit, you can resize your pic to the 2048 x 2048.

The email way is quick and easy!

I'm no help but this is what I do...

Ask Red Bear to take picture for me.
Red Bear does something with the camera and his computer.
Red Bear emails me an attachment.
THEN
I click "File"
then click "Save attachments"
Then the confusion begins...
I have to figure out where my pictures are and it is NOT in documents!

Many an error has happened in the finding the picture place!!!!

If I am successful then at the end of the month Red Bear somehow makes me a gallery on Google of all the cards I made that month and I can share the private link with others!

When the computer people in my home leave I will no longer have this life! :D

That's what I think too. :)

mrslaird 01-04-2013 05:23 AM

I use Photo Shop Elements to resize. I open the picture, then hit 'image', 'resize', then 'image size'. It brings up a box with a bunch of stuff. In the document size box, change 'inches' to 'percent' and then put the number to 33.

The easiest way for me to resize is to remember to set my camera to small files. :)

Just the other day, I did that...and I was able to enter the numbers 2048 x 2048.

I don't want to set my camera to small...I might forget to reset it to large!

I like my pixels.

Gonna have to try this. I use PSE but go to file menu and do a Save for Web. I need to do a few steps but it has worked for me. I save them in a folder called Photos for Web and then I still have my original photo as well.

mrslaird 01-04-2013 06:46 AM

Yeah, when I resize I just 'save as' and then still have the original...but I really don't *do* that much with giant files and tons of pixels so it hasn't been a big deal for me? I used to shoot everything on Fine pixels and Large files, but now I use Normal and Medium unless I REALLY think I might blow something up ginormous.

that's true...and, really, there's probably plenty of pixels on what you have your's set...good for a 8 by 10...sometimes I like to crop...like cropcrop. but, I"ve been practicing different stuff (zooming more, perspective, changing setting & remembering to change them back ) since I took Maggie Holmes December Daily Photography class! loved that class!

UrgentCookie 01-04-2013 08:48 AM

Thanks I will try some of that and see if I can't figure it out.

I have another question... not sure if any of you know but thought I would ask.

Do you know if there is any company that makes an A2 envelope that can be cut with a machine like the Cricut? I don't have a Cricut or any machine at this point, but I am looking into getting one if I can find one that makes the envelopes to fit our traditional 4 1/4x5 1/2 cards.

Does that make any sense?

Does Cameo have a way to cut an A2 envelope? I don't plan to but a machine unless I can cut envelopes.

From what I hear...if there is a way to do it, that machine can do it! I found a link to a template for the cameo after about a minute search....so I'm willing to bet there are a bunch of them out there!

Here is the page where the link is...you may have to scroll down a couple of posts to see it.
