Good morning. Happy December!

We are puppy shopping. I think my empty nesting is getting the best of me. Ash doesn't know yet, so it will be a surprise for her. Although, technically it will be mine.

She called from work in NJ yesterday and said she has the sinus crud again and lost her voice part of the day. Does anybody know of anything preventative for sinus infections? It seems she just gets over one and the next starts. Its awful.

Donna, hope you slept better.

Hi everyone!

Who will be taking care of this puppy when you want to travel with your daughter or your husband...or an overnight just because and no one is there to care for it?

I can't wait for the 2 dogs we have to die (or PS gets married so that she takes them away) (sorry for the bluntness but it is the truth)...they do not fit into my children's care schedule and the responsibility becomes mine by default...or they go in the kennel...which the outside dog does not like to be kenneled for any length of time and has mental issues while caged!

Maybe it will work for you...but...we don't find people willing to allow our dogs to visit with us...though there were some people who didn't like the idea of 2 crawlers or toddlers visiting either...so...maybe it was just me!

mrslaird 12-01-2013 05:23 AM

Good morning! I am so happy to be home today! It's been great seeing everyone for the holidays, truly it has, but I am very glad to be home for the foreseeable future! I have loved having Archer all day. At least he gets another break soon!

Can't get any more blunt than THAT!

But you do have a point. We would ask the neighbors to check on the pets & feed them. However, we don't travel like some of y'all do. Our pets would be heartbroken. They would think we died or something. Last time I had sinus surgery, Dale had to bring Penny Marie in to see me bedridden...cuz she was moping around so bad in the shop!

And Joyce, as for the sinus over & over...sadly, she may have chronic sinusitis. She might need to go to a specialist, an ear / nose / throat (ENT). It's most likely allergies. I would suggest a daily does of Claritin or Allegra - whatever similar item works. Additionally, I also take a daily dose of Mucinex and use Afrin when I have sinus pressure. Neti pot is good for clearing out the nasal passages. I usually have sinus surgery every fixe, six years or so...when it gets so bad, I get a new infection before the old one is gone. :p

mollymoo951 12-01-2013 06:00 AM

I'm heading to the shop for coffee and to see my dog. She's probably outside, looking @ the house. What a dog!

Scraperwannabe 12-01-2013 06:08 AM

Good morning! :D

mrslaird 12-01-2013 06:11 AM

Melissa, you have sinus surgery every 5 or 6 years?!?!?! I am so going to count my blessings every time I blow my nose with this sinus crud. That is awful!

As to traveling with a dog, it does make things much more complicated, but it's doable. My personal experience has been the smaller the dog, the more likely people are to let you bring it over. My grandmother lets people bring their dachsunds and terriers and bichon frise to her house (begrudgingly) but not bigger dogs. Hotels often have a weight limit of 40 or 50 lbs. I'm not sure what we'll do the next time we go to IL to see Jeff's dad. Either plan all our hotels out carefully, board him, or pay my mom to watch him. Cats are lots easier! ;)

And my only other thought is to just consider if you want a puppy or an older dog. I have always wanted a kitten or puppy, they are just so stinkin' cute! But a puppy is a LOT more work than an older, already housebroken dog. Either way, enjoy it!

mrslaird 12-01-2013 06:28 AM

I guess it's time for me to get moving. :)

TDD:
Shower and dress
10 minute living room rescue
Fold clothes for 10 minutes
Look at today's ads.

LuvLee 12-01-2013 06:31 AM

Oh Melissa.....sinus surgery repeatedly???? I'm with Paula....I will happily just blow my nose repeatedly!!! My chronic sinusitis is just a pain. They did a CT scan and found no nodules or anything that surgery would help and also did some other tests. So mostly I try to use the neti pot and then if it gets really bad finally go in for antibiotics. I hope Ash can find a good solution though....definitely have her checked out and at least rule out stuff.

If you get a puppy share pics!!! :D

Today is another low key day at home.....for which I'm so grateful!!! To stamp and just hang out is a lovely thing! I do need to get my lists made for the day in Pueblo tomorrow so we hopefully can get everything done and bought that we need without forgetting shhhtufffs. I need cookie cutters and a couple other things that my helpful SIL dejunked! :o

I am home more then not. And when I'm not Ed is only gone during the day. It will be a very small dog, one that I can carry in my purse. And buy clothes for. We don't visit ever to stay in people's homes so that isn't an issue. And I'm sure I would have several sitters available for the week we vacation. My little neighbor girls would love a babysitting job. I'm thinking they will call dibs when we go shopping. As far as hotels traveling with Ed or Ash most are pet friendly these days and its only 2-3 days every other month. I think I'm really having empty nest syndrome. We have filled out adoption applications and are in no hurry for the right little one to need some love.

ashjoy 12-01-2013 07:00 AM

I'm really thinking I'll suggest to Ash to see an ent. This is just crazy how often she gets this. I'm wondering if the air in hotels has something to do with it now that you have said allergies Melissa.

ashjoy 12-01-2013 07:01 AM

Lee, I'm having a PJ day. And may even stamp some. Do sneak peaks start today at GKD? Off to check.

Oh, probably! Hotel air is so artificially hot and dry! Ick.

And sounds awesome on the doggie front! We want pics when you get your new arrival! :)

ashjoy 12-01-2013 07:29 AM

My girlfriend keeps ending me pics of her puppy. I asked her if it had a brothers or sisters available but they were all gone. She sent me a pic of Charlie under the Christmas tree this morning. So cute!

We stopped at the local shelter ( which didn't have a small dog at all) and a local pet store. When we called about the teddy gear at the pet store he had just sold. Just wasn't meant to be.

mollymoo951 12-01-2013 07:39 AM

I develop polyps. Lucky me.

LuvLee said her CT's are clear; mine show polyps. Most I can do is spray with Flonase to keep them from developing and Flonase does reduce swelling. After surgery recovery has gotten tougher each time...but it sure does feel good when I get to feeling better. Like I said, only have them when I get one on top of the other...I'd have to look...it has been a while...I think I have had four (for sure), maybe five surgeries in the last 19 years. :)

You'll find one. :D Pound puppies are good. Spike is a pound puppy. Spike is a big dog...he's a Yellow Lab. Penny Marie picked me out when I went to visit the breeder who had Cocker Spaniels. I wanted a Cocker Spaniel. :D

mollymoo951 12-01-2013 07:43 AM

I went to the shop...did everything...except feed Penny.

imthenoni 12-01-2013 08:19 AM

Wow - seems I'm already behind for the month. Not sure if I'll catch up this year but hope next year is better.

imthenoni 12-01-2013 08:24 AM

I posted my list in November - go figure

I couldn't go to sleep until after 2 and woke up at 7 - hate those nights which have come in mass of late. Anyway decided to make good use of the time so I posted this list for today (early this am) and have already gotten a pot of soup and pot pie filling going - not a bad way to start the morning when you can't sleep.

Today's plans are

1. Work on my Christmas cards - finally decided on the design so I need to get them going.

2. Start some of the cooking (soups and fillings) for the freezer while I'm cardmaking, etc. - I've gotten the Italian soup that dh likes to get from Carrabbas going (LOTS of chopping) and a pot of pot pie filling going as well. Yummo. Still have 1 more pot of soup to get going and life will be good in my freezer as well as my dad's. Only have room for 2 big pots on my stove at 1 time. I have 8 pints and 2 quarts of chicken pot pie filling. I am still cooking the other 2 soups adn imagine there will be 6-8 quarts of each of them as well. YUMMO!!!

3. Work on a scarf for dd2 - working on this while things cook I've got the one started for dd1 now as well.

4. Make a pattern for mittens (I need 1 for adult women, 1 for adult men, and 1 for small children)

5. I also have some cards I'm making for gifts to work on as well - I have them all stamped and colored so I just need to cut the card stock, adhere them together and embellish them. - I have 48 of them to make but they will go pretty quickly since I don't have to do much to them at this point.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Red = a work in progress
Blue = IT'S DONE!!!

ashjoy 12-01-2013 08:29 AM

We went to the local SPCA on Friday, there was a very pretty big white dog. However, I'm afraid of big dogs so I wouldn't be a good handler, once they growled I would lock myself in my room and they would rule the house. Not a good thing.

Ed just showed my a pic of a baby Great Dane, she already weighs 135 pounds. I will not own a dog that weighs more then me or is taller then I am!

mrslaird 12-01-2013 08:35 AM

So far:
Shower and dress
10 minute living room rescue
Fold clothes for 10 minutes
Look at today's ads

Next:
Put up clothes folded so far
Declutter 10 min
Craft room clean up 10 min
Drink some water

Yep....a sneak peek was up today! And the Black Friday sale until tonite! ;)

imthenoni 12-01-2013 08:37 AM

Joyce - thanks for the thoughts of my sleep - not better last night - maybe tonight. One can dream.

imthenoni 12-01-2013 08:46 AM

Joyce - something else to think about when getting a new dog is the amount of care and grooming one may take. Remember that the long haired dogs require a great deal of grooming and they tend to shed more as well. Then you have hounds and they tend to bark more. I love dogs and certainly wouldn't want to try to discourage you from getting one but research the breed so you konw about they nature, ailments they are prone to and any other things you may not know about. It sounds like you've already thought about the travel aspect which is good.

Good luck with your search for the next member of your family.

pcousins13 12-01-2013 09:49 AM

Awww...Joyce!!! Please share pics when you find the right little guy or gal! I've always wanted a little tiny dog that could fit in my purse. I saw one when I was a teenager that looked like a black terrier puppy...as in a REALLY TINY puppy. The owners said that she was full grown. This little tiny thing that could fit in my hand was an adult dog! I fell in LOVE!!! I will have one one day...when we no longer have a bear sized dog and a cat....and kids that are still young enough to be too rough. :)

pcousins13 12-01-2013 09:51 AM

So sorry to all of you (and your family members) that have the icky sicky's. And Melissa! Surgery every 4-5 years!! My darling, I feel so bad for you. :(

pcousins13 12-01-2013 02:10 PM

I have a million tests in the next three weeks. Ok...actually I have 11 tests (which includes a bunch of finals), but it feels like a million! This week coming I have one on Monday, one on Tuesday, and two on Wednesday. I get Thursday and Friday to start studying for the ones coming up next week. I have already started to prep for the four I have this week. I'm done the prep for the one for tomorrow. :)

Patricia - I don't really need to offer you good luck on your test since I know you normally do so well on the ones in the past but I'll offer it anyway.
