In honor of VSN, when i went to get my cup of coffee this a.m., this dude was sitting on the knife we had used for butter. He scared me! WHAT was he doing there? What is he? Never saw no creature like that before, he was hard shelled. Anyway after the pics i sent him to bug heaven. didn't like the looks of him at all. Must be SPRING!!

We call those stink bugs around here. I don't know I just leave them alone. My son said they smell bad if you squish them. I think they look prehistoric like a dino bug they move really slow. They seem to stay in our bedrooms. I wonder what the heck they eat. Blech.

First me let say...you must have some firm butter to need such a knife!
Second...we call them Boxelder bugs (the winter version doesn't have the deep red-orange color)
Here is a link (MN of course!) for more explanation. I had 2 in the kitchen window yesterday-it is getting warmer than below zero so they must think spring is right around the corner!
I don't notice that they stink when I kill them but they do leave a discharge on places as they walk so when I see where one might have traveled I wipe it.
Ugh, I hit a wall. Totally just want to sit for an hour. Oh well.
So far today:
Start dishwasher
Start laundry
Put away folded/hanging clothes
Breakfast
Picked up everything in the hallway
Shower/dress
Fold a basket of clothes
Switch laundry
Lunch
Next:
Pick up 15 min in living room
Vacuum
Fold laundry from dryer

I'm going to spend part of the weekend re-reading Jan & Feb threads and making some notes of some of the cool things you guys have mentioned and of the mini challenges. Then I'm going to delete them from my subscription lists.
There are some other threads I need to do the same thing with so I think this is the weekend to get that rolling. I started with 39 and am now down 12 with 4-5 of those to be deleted over the weekend.
Adding -
6. Today's mini challenge - sweep the porch - done
7. I'm probably going to add sweep the carport as well - done
8. wash dishes - done Other things I've done so far today

I just knew someone would comment on that, well on that side of the kitchen in the mornings we just use whatever is handy
this dude looked more narrow than the one you posted but i do think it is the same critter. our box elders here though, that look like the one in the pic, are not nearly as long as this guy was. he was a good inch long. the legs and eyes look the same so maybe they are a kind of variety. or maybe he grew a LOT from fall to spring. blech! I did not notice an odor when i killed him, not like when we kill those kind that look like they are a shield. those STINK when you squish em. Anyway, we had horrible amounts of the box elders this past fall so likely he is one of them. Never saw them in the spring before. or winter for that matter! Thanks for the lesson.

Thank you all for the lessons on bugs and possums!! While I do NOT want bugs on me or in my house, I think they are beautiful creatures. The pic of the box elders that kramomma shared with the orange coloring is beautiful! I don't think we have those here...or, at least, I have never seen one. We don't have possums either! And while they look scary, I think they are very interesting! An I would LOVE to see one in person....at a bit of a distance, of course!

Had a great day out with dh. Lunch at Pei Wei. Yum! Leftover vegan pad thai for dinner for me. Dh grilling drumsticks. Leftover rice for him. Broccoli for us both.
So, my husband is a neighborhood hero. He put out a 5 foot fire in the neighbors backyard and the cops & firefighters told him he probably saved their house! Don't store your firewood under your BBQ pit y'all. Just a friendly tip there.

I had a day out with my daughter as well. We went to Cracker Barrel, then the gym, biome and stamped, then out to dinner with dd and her bf. then dh and I stopped for soft ice cream. We are wishing it was spring here, its 35*. Very cold!
I did do 2 loads of laundry. That's about it.
Going to check out vsn. I haven't played along in forever!

19. clean large bathroom
20. clean small bathroom
21. dust dinningroom & kitchen
22. dust livingroom
23. dust bedroom
Then I'm going to work on the SCS things I discussed earlier - cleaning out some of my threads.
All done AND I've gone through 24 pages of January's thread. Did you guys know we chatted for 79 pages? I'll do more tomorrow.

Cher - I'm sure someone has already answered or given suggestions on your post from January about doing away with your sugary flavored creamers in your coffee but I'm going to throw my .02 in anyway.
Have your tried teh liquid flavors? They make them sugar and cal. free. My chiropractor is also a nutritionalist and gave me the OK for non-dairy creamers (which also come in flavors) and the liquid flavors. Some of each are sugar-free so check it out. I really like the Vanilla, Carmel and Hazelnut (which all come in non-dairy sugar-free creamers too). I know there are others as well. HTH

I have a plan...I will be hitting the kids bathroom today...two boys....their bathroom has not been deep cleaned in a LOOOOOONG time....wish me luck! I think I may need a hazmat suit for this job!

1. take all the stuff out of the kids bathroom that don't belong...like the millions of toys that they "need" to have in the tub.
2. Organize under the sink cabinet
3. Straighten the towel shelf...and clean the wall behind it while I have the towels off of there.
Morning! Jeff's at the gym with archer. I'm here with the sick two. I need to start getting ready for this shindig tonight. Wash my hair, base coat nail polish, etc.

What is my plan for the day? I really don't know. My allergies or something are acting up again and I really don't feel like doing anything but know there are things I need to get done. I just want to sit and be. My paramedic students are graduating today (I am not their lead instructor but one of their many instructors). I've been invited to go but I'm really not wanting to go. It is at 3:30 - just messes with my little bit of time with dh. He will get up at 2-2:30, dinner around 4 and leave by 5:15 for work. If I go to the graduation I will not see him but 30 mins or so. So I'm kinda thinking I'm going to accidently forget it on purpose.
