I'm back!

It's so funny...my nephew, who hardly knows my brothers side of the family, would not leave Jarod alone! He turned two today and, although there were other young kids there, he took to my 11 year old. Taking his hand constantly and wanting to play. Jarod played with him the whole time and my nephew didn't even bother with any of the other kids. It just boggles my mind that, even though they try to keep him away, he wants to be around us. (Or around Jarod anyway! )

The kids are playing outside, taking in the warm weather that we are finally getting, Brent is putting up the "As seen on tv" magnet screen door thingie, and I have started the house cleaning. The dishwasher is unloaded and reloaded again. It's a start! Now I have to figure out a quick bite to eat for the family and continue on with the tidy up. It looks pretty good here so it shouldn't take me long. I just want to get it done tonight so I can keep on top of things.

Hey Mollymoo...

As I've written 7-6-13 several times today I keep thinking of you...

7+6=13 + =

I figured it out ALL BY MYSELF!

Why haven't those lovers of 13 figured this out today?

Hey y'all. Here's the skinny on today. We did two loads of laundry, mopped the floor, smoked a turkey, made a first draft submission card, and adopted a dog. Turns out a very sick dog. Please say some prayers he pulls through and lives a long healthy life. And in case you are thinking it but don't want to say, no, this was not the best budget move. We really liked this dog and felt it was worth it and then spent the next 3 hours finding out all the things wrong with him. (After we adopted, of course.) which is fine, if he pulls through. So that's been our day. Being at petsmart for 5 hours is surprising exhausting. I would be happy to just sit and knit the rest of the night.

Oh, no keys. Who knows what I did with them.

Although dogs are not cheap, the love and loyalty they bring to a family is worth it! Wouldn't trade my Daphney and Sophie for anything!

Yes! I just want him to be healthy! It's all good as long as he pulls through! It's the respiratory issue that has us concerned. They gave him an antibiotic shot so hopefully he's already on the mend. I do hope that I never have to spend 5 hours at petsmart again, though.

Kramomma, sounds like a fun day.

Patricia, we looked at the yard sale list this morning but there weren't many so didnt go.

Oh no Paula, hope this helps tye poor dog. ive heard that petsmart pets are know to have kennel diseases. hopefully its curable. i cant imagine the kids not getting attached quickly. I'm a pet free person, and prefer not to have anything additional to clean up after.

So my plans changed today and I ended up going to see Kid Rock, I'm in pain now but it was worth it. This was my first concert, couldn't have asked for a better show.

Good night!

Joyce, he's actually from the Humane Society. Petsmart doesn't sell dogs they just let them come in on the weekends and do adoptions. This dog came from a dog hoarder. We always planned to get a rescue. And with three little kids already the dog isn't adding that much mess.

Oh my gosh, I missed the last bit! Your first concert?! Wow!!! Glad it was a good show! My dad actually heard Kid Rock sing at a funeral.

but yeah...she's right. they are expensive...but pets provide lots of love & loyalty. they have their own grocery bill that rivals ours! I would not give them up, but I'm not actively acquiring more.

the pup is cute paula. I hope he gets better soon!

Joyce, I understand about being pet free. I have a cat, who nearly drives us crazy at times but at others he's a huge comfort. We have said, as he is an older cat 12ish, that when he dies I'm not sure we'll get another. Not because I don't love animals but because I just don't want anything else depending on me to take care of him. Basically the only thing dh does is scoop the litter. And said cat has gotten where he is having tummy issues so lots of barfing. I have never had an issue with that and given my previous profession I've seen plenty, but now I'm having issues with it making me want to do it when I have to clean it up. He will have weeks of doing good then a day of multiple times. The vet has no idea what the issue is. We Vaseline his nose 2-3 times a week to help with fur balls and have changed his died x 3-4. I think we've finally hit on something that is working. Still not sure how much I want another pet for a while once Smokey Joe is gone.

I wondered. I'm so proud of y'all.

(I think they should have told you what all was wrong BEFORE you adopted him. I mean, what if someone that was not as understanding / caring / pet loving as y'all adopted Conehead & didn't want to "fool" with it, KWIM? He'll will remember this (all the loving care, attention)...he will love you for it. Best wishes to all of you. )

I choose to believe that they didn't know for the most part. We couldn't tell he had the eye or ear infection by looking at him, he wasn't sneezing or coughing noticeably, and they have a bunch of dogs they're trying to find homes for and it's all volunteer. The one thing I'm annoyed about is they should have had a cone on him to start with once they neutered him. It was glued not stitched or stapled so all he had to do was lick it open and that's kind of a given without a cone.

And I understand about the extra responsibility and mess and expense and I can't say that we'll have a pet forever, but having animals is good for (non-allergic!) kids.

I know you understand about the responsibility, mess & expense. Hope I didn't imply otherwise.

I think this is great. He's so cute...his mix sounds good / compatible / child friendly, too.

I wondered what the cone was for...never seen that before.

If he's not noticeably sick, I would think he would heal right on up. (meaning, it's not bad bad.)

ETA - OH! they glued his incision? wow! well heck yeah...lick it open.

Oh, absolutely! Y'all are all good! I'm just saying I totally get why people choose to be pet free. We might down the road too. Just now, with kids I think it's important.

And yes, the skin, eye, and ear infections should all heal up fine. The only concern is the respiratory infection. If it's caused by parvo or distemper then it can be serious.

I remember when Penny got her puppy parvo shot. I sure hope it's nothing serious.

Whacha gonna do today?

Try another version of the submission card I made, fold and put away clothes, pay a few bills online, hoping to declutter a little, and at some point I have to go get my kids from mom.

How about you?

Thank goodness for air conditioning. And a clean house.
We have had measurable rain cor 14 days straight. They're calling for Rosenberg day until Thursday,I think. We are over 8" above normal f for the year already. I'd just love to see the sunshine for a few days.

Like you said...thank goodness for a clean house & air conditioning.

My mom's dog is a rescue. She was found hit by a car and her back leg smashed off completely. She was taken to the emergency vet and everyone was looking for the owners. Nothing. The town (Stephenville) raised the money to get her the care and operation (she needed pins and metal strips in her leg) that she needed...they raised well over $1000! Then, after everything was done, the owners came to claim their dog. They were refused and, once investigated, it was found that the dog (maggie) had been abused, left outside to run, and was malnourished. The vet said that she has a lot more scars than the operation ones...and she was only about 5 months old.

Then, when it came time to find her a home, my mom and dad wanted her. And it has been a match made in heaven!!! She is still very nervous of strangers and she is terrified of Brent (we think her abuser must have looked like him) but she is coming around. She loves my parents, my kids and me!! She is such a sweet dog, when SHE gets to know YOU.

Well, there is my story!! I'm very proud of you, Paula, for getting a pet that really needed you instead of one that comes with papers telling about its breed. I bet he will make a lovely pet and a great friend to your kids!

Good morning! The sun is shining and there is a little breeze out there to keep the flies away! Awesome! It's about 81* out...it better not get any higher than that! Looks like it may be another sprinkler day.

It has been warm (in the 80's) every day even with all the rain so we're had thunder storms every day as well. The sun has been trying to peek out all day but it is mostly overcast & 83 right now. AND I woke up this morning with a sinus infection. Guess I'll call the doctor in the am.

Melissa how are you treating your sinus infection with local honey? I've heard of it but never investigated it. VERY interested.

I have started a 52 week savings plan for next years vacation. I think next year we will go to Twillingate for a whale watching boat tour and head to Gros Morne for some more boat tours and hiking. Both of these are in Newfoundland. With the savings plan I found, the amount of money you put in the jar corresponds with the week number. $1 on week one, $2 on week two, $52 on week 52 and so on. I think it is doable...and on certain weeks when I can afford to put more money in, I will! I should have a nice chuck of change for our vacation next year.

+ Mucinex wannabe generic from Sam's.

So far...it provides relief. But I have to sleep sitting up...and I'm still dizzy. I do need to go get an antibiotic I believe. oh well

But I AM doing honey two times a day from this point forward. I think it helps.
