I do the same thing, for the most part. I'm ready to be free of these things. Today is the day of a car full of items leaving my house. Tomorrow will be more going but not as much. I recycle newspapers (we normally only get Sunday papes) and grocery store bags so they are leaving. I'd recycle so much more if we had curbside recycling but alas I'm a lazy bumm when it comes to that. Plus I don't really have a place to put a recycling center. I also have a few more books I'm going to donate to my dd1's church. That will put me at over 100 books gone. We do have a place in our house where we stack recycle books but I decided to clear shelves. I love Patricia Cornwell and I had every book (with the exception of 2) that she has written. I will, most likely, not re-read them and the library has them if I chose to so they are out-a-here. I also have another author or two I have done the same thing with and they are going as well. I also love reading Karen Kingsbury and have ready almost all of her books as well. Most of them I donated to the church about a year ago and will finish up with what I have left tomorrow. Wow those shelves are looking naked - loving it!

Make today a wonderful day! See ya later ladies

Norwex shampoo is not for my hair...going to use it to clean the master shower today!

Thanks janeenk for that idea...

Was going to toss the bottle...was suffering through using it to the end...the end is today...whether or not the bottle is empty!

i don't like their shampoo, dish soap, laundry soap, dish washer soap, face moisturizer. But i do love their cleaning cloths and polishing cloths.

Yeah You!!! I'm really feeling the outta here today. Wish I could make more noise. DH is still asleep. I have not idea when he came to bed but it was well after 1am. This is his normal though. Wish he'd get on a more normal person's clock though.

Feeling stuck with giving away the cropper hopper. I had the idea that I could just let the children use the paper and stickers in there. Then it seems like a waste of all that really good scrapbooking stuff to just leave it for play.

Then I read todays clutter email from FLYlady and just want to get rid of it. I am so confused.

Here is my .02... if your kids would enjoy playing with the paper & stickers... it is art & giving them a creative outlet... then it is NOT clutter or a waste...

I will put a date on something & if it hasn't been used by that date, then we make a decision to do something else with it.

You could give your kids the scrapbooking things & find something else to declutter today.

Just my .02!

If the kids want the paper & stickers, let them have it!

If they don't want it, let it go.

The trick is...NEXT TIME you are shopping for craft supplies, you remember this...stop & think. Do I need it? Will I use it? Do I have something similar?

Take a lesson from it and moo've along.

It's hard...and so easy to get confused. I know...but I've also noticed that I try to be more mindful of my purchases. It's a work in progress!

One thing I do with excess craft stuff I get conflicted about tossing, I put them in a ream of paper box...date the box...take it to my shop. And if I haven't opened the box in one year...toss it all in the trash. Trust me. If you ain't went back to that box and gotten anything out within the year...you don't need it.

Misti horrified us. The day she said she went to the garage & saw a box of stuff that was not unpacked from their previous move...she chucked the box in the trash, without even cutting open the tape! augh! Sure did. whoo. It had been a couple of years...that box sat unopened in the garage.

And 2 moves later, I still couldn't think of anything that was in that box. I haven't had a "hmmm...wonder where that could have gone..." moment.

Hi ladies ~ today has been a busy one. Got rid of those newspaper recycling today, but the books are still riding in my car. I think, since the used book store didn't take many and they are in really good condition, I'm going to divide them into lots and put them on ebay. I'll only list them for a week and if they don't sell I'll donate them somewhere. I'll plan to put them on tomorrow or Friday. I can't say that I've really done much to show but I spent the day with DD1 & DGDS doing a bit of shopping. Then off to class tonight.

So a wrap up my scrolling through today's posts

Christi - I agree with Misti & Melissa - let the kids play - you already have it and aren't going to use it so let them.

Misti - I agree with Paula and you, for that matter. I love the signature and need to practice it myself on a more regular basis. I also want to thank you for the Declutter blog link.

Melissa - good idea for the box. I may have to try that.

Kramomma - love the lamp story. I have a couple of the things myself. Who knows who's going to get them first. LOL

I'm not exactly decluttering like a mad woman, now am I? However, I do have permission to do these things at work...and man! I'm happy as a clam! I like doing this for 15-30 minutes right as I get in to work...then I'm all ready to sit down for brain work!

5 - organize an audit someone else tried to start
6 - organize audit divider & binder supplies
7 - plan today - box up the old audits (of this particular client) for storage

I have been decluttering in my craft room, but here and there, not focused. I've been pretty sidetracked by this baby shower I'm helping hostess next weekend! I need to get into a good decluttering routine. Like the link Misti posted said, picking up daily is the main thing that will keep this place from absolute chaos (both the flylady kind and the regular kind) but decluttering is the main way to progress! If there's not as much here, there's not as much to pick up.

So. I guess I'll go declutter somewhere for 15 min after I eat my oh so healthy Boston Cream Pie toaster struedel.

mrslaird...sometimes a person doesn't even know how something arrived in your home...

I've been sleeping in the guest room for the last 2 nights (no, it isn't krapoppa's fault...well...maybe it is because since krapoppa is gone there is another family that came to stay with me for the week...so I gave them the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms so I am sleeping in the guest room and using the basement bathroom...so go ahead and blame him!)

In the guest room (where I seldom ever make my presence known) is an AKC blue ribbon that is for the St Bernard Club of Greater San Jose...UHM...no one in my family has ever had a St. Bernard...nor have they every been to an AKC showing of that breed of dogs...

HMM...

Also...there are 3 "bar" stools that are in this room that have not been used in 17-years...do I really still need them? They work great for little ones to sit in while watching people play pool but bookcases have overtaken all the areas around the pool table...so they currently are living in the guest room...

Lots of knick-knacks can leave this room also...I will replace them with pictures on the walls...

Kramomma ~ I so understand about how did that get here. DH and I got married 20 years ago. I had 3 children and a house full of furniture that was kinda running over. He was single but inherited his family homeplace and had a house full of furniture that was overflowing too. For a good while I rented a storage building and put most of my furniture in storage. My mother moved back mainland so I gave her almost every stick of furniture and closed out the storage building. What was left kinda went here and there and the boxes went into the attic. 3 children have moved out, 2 back in & out and in & out again. Finally we are by ourselves, though we still have things from those 2 here. DDS basically has all but maybe a box of things out. They are pictures and many of those I want to scan before I give them to him. He has a habit of losing things so I don't want those things completely gone. DD2 has a bed and a couple of other pieces of furniture in the house and most of the rest of her things in an area designated for her in the attic. I can't put a full-sized mattress & box springs in the attic so it is in use in a spare bedroom. I keep running into things I have no idea who they belong to or what to do with them. OOPS there's a knock at the door so I'll be back in a bit.

I'm re-evaluating my craft room/homeschool stuff this month. I've gotten rid of a few things, re-arranged a few things... I need to use up a few things, learn how to use a few things...

I finally recycled a big box of cards from the Star Wars minis my oldest used when he gamed. Now my younger son just plays with the figures - hundreds of them and there is no way anyone was spending time sorting them to make a couple bucks. I am setting them free!!!!

I also added a couple more things to the bag to drop. I had a bin of colored pencils and markers, haven't used them in years, still work...have others for the children to use.

I feel like I have been pretty successful this month with my decluttering. I can see a difference in some places as we aren't really drowning so to speak. Not hoarder level here or anything. We have too many people to be keeping after a ton of stuff in our smallish house.

bummed! no wonder i can't get a hold of the consignment store where i took my stuff, they closed up. wonder what they did with my money? it wouldn't have been much prbly l twenty or so but none the less, they are not answering their phone. have to find a new place to take my stuff. guess i could use the one in town. don't like their store very much though. it is convenient however.

cut apart and put in recycle container in the garage, seven small shipping boxes that were in my office.

Back! The grands and DD1 came over. All are napping right now so now I can re-evaluate my decluttering.

So I've been through all my books and am working on how to get rid of them but they are leaving one way or another.

I've decluttered my linens in the kitchen - tossed some, some going to goodwill soon.

I'm working on my linens in the laundryroom - know exactly what's staying and what's leaving just need to put it there. Putting what I'm going to keep in the vacuum bags and on the shelf

Decluttered the cleaning supplies though I'm thinking about starting using more enviro friendly like vinegar - just need to investigate more

Spent 15 minutes in my craft cave

Gone through mos to fmy clothes to get rid of what I haven't worn in a while

I think that wraps up what I've gotten done so far. Off to work on the craft cave because dd1 is up and the girls are sleeping. Really need to take the help when I can get it.

It's an attitude that I continue to work on in my life...and I do see from experience that decluttering continues to make a positive difference in my daily life...and in my teaching my children...which I pray makes a difference in their home because I took time to set a better example to them once I learned how to do it myself!

I am so glad that you are setting such a good example for your children. I had 2 examples as a child.

1 - my step-mother (me - ages 6-13) - she was always 'there is a place for everything and everything must be in it's place' yet she didn't want to have to do it herself so each day it was my job to pick up the house after school. The weekends were worse - I had to wash the laundry, and God forbid if I didn't hang it on the line the way she wanted it done even though she would change her mind with the wind. We lived in a 10 room house which included 1 1/2 bath & kitchen, 2 dens, laundryroom, 3 br, etc and a full basement which had to be swept, dusted & mopped as well. She actually took things that belonged to me when I went to live with them and gave them away even though she knew who they belonged to. She also only allowed me very few personal belongings. When I went to live with my mom I got everything that belonged to me in 1 large suitecase and 2 boxes.

2- my natural mother (me ages 1-6 & 13-17 1/2) - she was more concerned with other things than cleaning, though I still did most of the cleaning because I was used to that. I did learn how to put things in closets, cabinets, drawers, the oven, wherever to get them out of sight (the flight of the butterfly).

I HATED to clean the house thanks to dsm and thus did only the basics with my children and nevermind about being organized at home, though I'm very organized at work. (The funny thing is my dad is VERY organized). I think between the two of my influences I learned to hold on to the past and anything that someone gave me. I also did not like to clean.

I am getting better at both of my issues. I am getting rid of so much that it is wonderfully releasing (please don't think my house looks like hoarders - it's not that bad at all).

Because of my issues my children are all over the place as far as how they clean. They do know how to clean but just do it as need be - like when people are coming over or that kind of thing. DD1 is the best at cleaning and organizing.

Thanks to DD1 we spent an hour (that's 4 15 min sessions woo hoo) in my craft cave. We went through 3 boxes (empty now) and 4 of the shopping bags that you purchase (empty now as well). We also got the table nearly clear too. We discussed what I wanted to do with all the craft stuff. I have most of it divided into several catagories (adhesive, card kits, 6x6 paper, 12 x 12 paper, embellies, etc). We decided that I will go through each box and decide what I want to keep. Once I've done that I'll put a price on each box for the contents or divide them into bundles and have a craft yard sale. We have discussed doing a crop sometime in the next couple of months so maybe I could put it out there as well. I'm liking the plan and feeling good about it - that's a GIANT step for the month for me.

I forgot to say thanks to everyone for the thoughts on the scrapbooking stuff. I will pull out the bin and put it in the school zone. There are lots of letter stickers we can do some good learning things with those.

And as you all said if we don't seem to be using it I can ditch it.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the inspiration. I've been doing pretty good. It helps me to listen to a book on tape while I declutter, the time flies!

I took two loads of stuff back to stores, gone!
I donated a whole box of stuff to a charity that came by-gone!
I have a bag in the van for Sunday when I see a friend who runs a boys ranch-almost gone!
I cleaned off 1/2 of my dresser. Tomorrow the other half!~ maybe I'll list more on ebay....
