Default Cruisin the Holidays 2013

That probably should be Cruising through the Holidays...as FlyLady calls it...but...

I like Cruisin' the Heartland...so, it's Cruisin the Holidays.

We gonna get our work done, so we can enjoy the holidays!

Like in Cruisin the Heartland, they get the cars ready & park them so we can enjoy them.

So...Cruisin' the Holidays.

Gathering the wraps!

mollymoo here: We keep our Christmas wrap / bows / tags in a gift wrap bin in the shop where we keep the Christmas decorations! I do need to see how many Christmas cards I have to send this year. And see how many more I need to make.

Then, I do want to send some Halloween fall cards. So...for me:
1. check Christmas Card stash
2. start addressing envelopes for Halloween / Fall cards.

What about you?

Gift wrap...I have NONE...nope...NONE...I was obsessed with gift wrap and realized I purchased it on impulse because it was "CUTE", not because I needed it!

I decided to use brown wrap and decorate it instead! Brown wrap isn't "CUTE" until you make it "CUTE"!

Boxes are stored in a bin in the storage room marked "Gift boxes".

Tissue paper which is often used and gift bags (I only purchase plain ones because I too let "CUTE" obsess me) are stored in the game closet which is in the stamp room...

If someone wants to decorate the gift bag they can, or I can make "CUTE" tags to make the bag "CUTE"!

I have been wanting to switch to brown paper so I can make my own tags any way I like but I haven't actually done it yet.

I buy very little paper these days. Just not many gifts to wrap but I have some in my closet, I have some of everything in my closet, so no worries there. I always bought it discount. No hoarding just a few for when needed.

Maybe when this is gone I REALLY will go the brown paper route.

Was kind of disappointed. I wanted to make a gift bag for E's friend and she wasn't having any of that. She wanted one from the 1.00 store.

I try to keep a good general birthday paper around, a good general winter paper, and a good general silver or gold paper for weddings. I buy most of it when it's on sale after Christmas.

Anyway, my gift bags, etc, are all together in a container under my bed and the wrapping paper is in the hall closet. I do want to make some drawstring bags to use as gift wrap, but will just do that as I have time.

Another gift wrapping idea that I use now is to purchase the "shoe" boxes at Michael's in solid colors then I add Washi tape for decoration! Also I put tissue paper inside when "stuffing" is needed...

Fun ideas and I no long have stashes of partially used rolls of paper...when I made the decision to go with brown wrap I got rid of all the rolls of paper to our local charity donation...

So very freeing...

For anything not Christmas, I have gift bags, boxes, alterable containers in the hall closet; this is also where I keep extra supplies (sticky strip, plastics, etc). I also have a roll of paper, tissue paper & some ribbon. That roll of paper is Star Wars. Cards are in separate drawers in a four drawer cube from Michaels; sorted by theme (b-day, get well, anniv, etc.); located in the office.

I'm satisfied with my system for gift wrapping supplies.

I enjoyed reading about everyone else's systems.

Thanks for sharing!

Subbing!!! I only have about 20 seconds to stop in here tonight, but I really wanted to see if Molly Moo had started this thread...and she did!! YAY!

Mission one: A bunch of garbage bags of stuff taken out of this house this past weekend...either 3 or 4, I can't remember now. Plus three boxes of stuff going to the thrift store.

Mission Two: Not done...but I do have a list done with the persons name and size as well as an idea for a gift, what I actually got, if it is wrapped, if it is sent (or given), and how much it cost. I want to see how much I actually spend on Christmas this year.

Mission three: Done! I keep all of my supplies in a basket on the top shelf of my closet. Wrapping paper is kept behind the baskets. I do need to get tape, though, and some more kid-friendly wrapping paper.

Ok, so that was more than 20 seconds!! I got to go to bed now. Good night, everyone!

Hi Angie!! I miss all of you guys too. I am doing well with school, but it is taking extra effort this term. There is SO MUCH WORK!

We got a bit of a head start on the holiday cruising last weekend...when we had to clean the whole house because the insurance inspector was coming in. We only got a couple of days notice...so things had to be cleaned in a flash.

Holiday Budgeting.

I have it figured out in my head how much I'm going to spend on gifts. I just need to make sure I stick with it...and not get caught up in anything. I've done well in this area...but last year I did give two individuals something I said I was not doing...so I'm going to stick with it this year.

Okay, I don't have a set amount per person or a set amount for the season. Which is probably bad. And I honestly probably won't have the quiet time to sit and ponder on this for today. Sunday I will sit down with a notebook and scratch out who gets presents and how much I expect them to cost, and go from there. We don't go crazy spending on gifts for anyone and I do buy throughout the year.

Having learned to live within our means on cash has helped immensely in the gift giving department.

A budget still needs to be set for what we plan to pay for of the wedding...currently the plan is...a nice-sit down, fancy meal with just the 2 families at a restaurant (13 of us)...and a simple, homemade meal for out-of-towners on Friday night...and clothing...nothing fancy...but...I will need SOMETHING nicer than denim!

Day #7 is in the works of planning...there will definitely be out-of-town people here this year, just not sure how many, who, or for how long! Should know more after Nov. 14...

for 15-minutes of play time...uhm...I think I'll write a card to someone...

I cheated...I clicked on your link from day 6 then I changed the 6 to a 7 in the url (I think that's what it's called) so that I saw day 7...though...it may not be the correct day 7, it did say day 7...and I went with my thoughts from there!

(It's been a long morning since getting up at 4:30 AM is now new normal to me!)

We never have out of town guests for the holidays. Sometimes we are out of town guests, but I doubt that will be the case this year.

As to decorating, I don't think there's anything I need to plan. It's a little awkward this year since Hanukkah starts the night before Thanksgiving. I'll leave my fall stuff up until Thanksgiving night, I guess, and then switch it out.

I have a snowflake banner for the mantle, a Hanukkah banner, some Hanukkah honeycomb type things, and a snowflake wreath for the door. Outside is Jeff's domain. He has some snowmen and he might do white lights, but that may depend more on the weather than anything else. We should get them Hawaiian shirts.

Aggh! My first thought, I don't want to talk about that!! LOL My second was to go check flylady to see exactly what the question meant.

No peeps by us clothes for Christmas so I am good on sizes, ha, I just went shopping for both kids and I actually know there sizes, for a girl who can't remember a thing that's pretty good!

This is a good question! Trying to decide what style dress to make for the wedding...and finding someone who will help me make it fitted rather than be a tent...will be interesting...

Another question...

Why is it Day 8? Is there no weekends on this cruise? I'm completely confused and I don't like the State of Confusion!

I know. I was hoping this year we had cruising on the weekend...then nothing came up for day 7 on Sunday & day 6 did not pop up on Monday.

IF you want weekend Holiday cruising missions, we might can do something amongst ourselves...we can call them a & b.

IDK.

but yeah...bummer.

I'd take a and b if it doesn't require "work" on b...it is the day of rest for all KRA's...so if it can be done as something pleasant that would be great!

Hint...crafts are pleasant...cleaning, folding laundry...those are not!

I have a very little list of errands but none of them will be today as they are in the north metro (90 minutes away) so needs to be a Tuesday or Friday when a friend will drive me to the cake decorating store...

I have learned to call ahead to be sure what I want is in stock...and to buy early as they run out of supplies during Nov. and Dec.

So...making greeting cards & mailing invites is pleasant? OH...I can shoot out challenges for b.

OK. We'll start this weekend!
