I just found this and count me in! I need to be more accountable. I will have to add up what I have already spent this year (too much) and what I have done...

DH is laughing at me - I spent $300 for SAB right on January 5th so now I need to make a TON of cards before I can buy anything else --- he'll be crying when I get stamping with my new toys this weekend!

Ok now I don't feel so bad... I am at work and have my numbers at home but I am already in the hole for somewhere aroudn 250 dollars. I will post an update soon.. but yeah. I took the plunge and went back thru all my paypal transactions for 2009 as I do most of my shopping online as selection is horrible here in Winnipeg, but the total was shocking... just unreal. I do have to say that I do use my stuff... its not that I am not always making something but still... its scary.

Alright, Kelly - I told you that I would try to update you on my progress.

My goals are cards, blog updates, challenges, projects, and layouts.

Since last week (my Haven was a bit of a mess until then), I've completed 4 challenges, 16 cards, and 3 blog updates (those were actually in the last couple of weeks). Not sure what I'm 'paying' myself, since we're broke at the moment. LOL!! BUT ... I'll bank it and run from there.

Oh ... and I used 9 different stamp sets, too.

That work for an update, Kel?

Talking Great Idea!!

I just found this...and what an awesome idea to track your spending and make yourself accountable!! That is my biggest problem-I buy stuff all at once so that I get more benefit from it, and by the time I get around to using it all once there is more I want to buy...and sometimes I don't get around to it all!! I do craft very often, but have way too much supply for my own good-haha! My husband loves what I create, but asks me all the time how much it REALLY costs me in the end...now we will both know! Thanks for sharing the spreadsheet...hopefully its a good motivator...and comes at the perfect time for me as we made a committment this year to save more and stop the impulse buying (saving for babies)!

I am lucky-no kids yet and my husband is supportive of my habits, so I have a wonderful crafting space. I'm really organized, and it helps so much-I don't spend time searching for anything, so I have more time to actually make things! All of my stamps are categorized into tubs, and I stamped the images on to notecards. The notecards have the box number on them, so all I have to do is go to that box and I only have 10 or so sets to look through to find what I need...it saves a lot of time, as I have tons of stamp sets! Also, on the back of the notecard, I write the name of anyone who has borrowed the stamp set so that I remember where it is if I lend it out-nothing worse than forgetting about something like that and not knowing who to ask for it back! I also have the magnetic holders on my wall for brads and small embellishments so that I can see them...and therefore use them! ...I am guilty of having bought embellishments I already owned simply bcs I forgot I had them...but not since keeping them in plain sight, haha!

Thanks again for the great idea...glad I found this post!!

We're starting off a new decade with a new perspective. Let's declutter, decide what we want to keep, donate the rest and clear the deck for all new STAMPING/ SCRAPPING/ CREATIVE FUN!

THE CONCEPT:
Determine how much you want to PAY yourself for the following: (I'm asking we keep it to a creative vein to elimiate clutter and confusion in your signature)

How much will you pay yourself for:
1 double pg LO
5 cards (basic matting/ embossing/ embellishment)
5 ATCs
1 Altered Item
1 Premium Item (think explosion cards or intricate items)
1 Challenge (there are a lot of great threads on this Forum)
1 VSN event
1 Meet-Up event
1 Updated Creative Blog Post
1 Gallery Upload (this is one DAY - not Item. You upload Mon - Fri. you
get 5 credits.)

How will you keep track? Last year I decorated a blank check register. I got credit for an 'altered item' this way. hehe I keep it on my work surface so when I'm done at the end of the day I can notate my 'deposit'. I also make sure all 'expenses' get deducted when I've been shopping.

Some people have designed Excel sheets to keep track on their computer.

Let's keep the RED out of our check register and on our projects for 2010!
Mind if I ask what everyone else has set for their "pay"?

Well, I spent this morning cleaning my craft space, which hasn't been done since OCTOBER! Which is probably why I haven't been crafting much lately! Now that it's clean, I got 5 cards done this afternoon (between running the kids around and going to my brother's for birthday cake!). Not too bad!

As for pay, I'm alotting myself 75 cents per card...I think I need to add exercise into the mix and that will encourage me to exercise more too!!

I THINK I'm doing this ....

Cards - $1

Blog Updates - $3

Challenges - $.50

Projects - $5

Layouts (double - regardless of size) - $5

Stamp sets used (because I'm trying to use as many as possible this year) - $.10 each

Earned as of 1/16/10 - $30.90

Right now, I'm just 'banking' mine, though, as we don't have the money to 'pay' me.

I have been paying myself
$1 2 page layout
$1 5 cards
$1 altered item
$1 anything fancier then usual
$1 blog post
$1 per day of SCS uploads

and as soon as my hubby gets back to work I am paying myself $1 for each 30 minutes of exercise. I have a lot of stuff that needs to be used up and I get a lot of free stuff as a dt member so I don't pay myself as much as some do. That and I don't have much $$ in my budget anyway.

I'm "paying" myself:

$1 per card -(because I've estimated the cost of materials per card to range from 30 cents upwards depending on what I use and I want to be able to replace my supplies plus buy new things)

$5 per bulletin board (I do the bulletin board each month at church - a 4'x6' board which takes a lot of my paper supplies) It's like doing a giant scrapbook layout! LOL!

$2 per challenge I complete - I'm doing the Christmas card challenge here of 10 cards per month so I have them all done by Christmas.

$1 for posting craft ideas to my blog

$1 for uploading photos here

Shell, like you, I'm banking mine on paper since I can't really afford to "pay" myself. But at least I can justify spending when I see things I need. I can show my hubby that I'm using what I have.

Ok I am paying myself:

1.00 per card
5.00 per layout
2.00 per wish granted (wishrak)

and I have some other ideas .. for exercise and weight loss once I get that in gear. So, this year as of today I have spent 260 bucks and earned 76 leaving me a deficit of 184.00. I also will "pay" myself for things out of the ordinary .. such as I cleaned out my entire craft room, re organized, did an inventory of my supplies, and purged so that was an all weekend job and I alloted myself 20 dollars earned.

I'm "paying" myself:
$0.75 per card
$5.00 if I work out 3 times a week
$1.00 for doing a 3-Day training walk

I wanted to ask what you all thought about carrying over a positive balance from last year?

Maybe I am "paying" myself too much! I still find myself if the hole though.

2.00 per card
2.00 per 3-D item
10.00 per 12 X 12 double page layout
5.00 per altered item

I also have a Bonus section where I can add anything and also a place to put in cost of altered item. So, I can replenish my supply of course! LOL!
It seems like there is something else, but I am not on my laptop currently and can't remember.

Hey everybody check in and let us know how you are doing 3 weeks into the new year. I feel like it is going well. This challenge is helping me think very carefully about what I am spending. I have almost earned back everything I have spent which is a good thing since I am about to put in a $35 paper order and I am invited to a SU party on the 5th where I plan to only spend $50.

I love this ... it helps me look at my habits and what I think I just have to have vs what I really want and will enjoy and use. Big difference! Although I have a hefty deficiet, I feel ok because I started the challenge in the hole and more concerned about tracking my expenses vs actually coming out ahead...

I've spent $0 so far. I've earned $30.90 before today. I can add 7 more cards and 2 more stamp sets used (so far) today, though.

I just discovered a thread had been started for 2010. I am so glad. I have already set up my spreadsheet. I used the same one I used last year, just changed it a little. Here's what I am tracking this year:

cards = $1 each
scrapbook pages =$2 each
scrapbook swaps = $2 each
altered items = $1 or $2 each (depends on what it is)
exercise = $.25/minute
pounds lost = $2/lb

I have been very busy this month with lots of scrapbook border and page swaps. So far I am at $172.25 earned and $48.09 spent. (11cards/4pgs/53swaps/189mins)

I have a question: My bible study small group makes birthday cards each month. We make about 40-50 of one card each time. I design and usually provide all the supplies. We make them assembly line style in one sitting. Do I count them all for my total since I have the expense of the supplies? This month I did bring them home to finish since we ran out of time so I was planning on counting at least those.

Thanks!

Welcome back Michelle!
Absolutely count those cards. If you're spending the money for the supplies than they should count towards your bottom line. Whatdo you guys do with the cards when you're done?

That's a great start! Do you have pics of your new space in the gallery? I love looking at other creative spaces. When my daughter moves out, I think mine is up for a redo.

Hey Carla!

Sweetie, it's only the middle of January. Even if you think you've spent too much, you have plenty of time to play catch-up.

I am too, Laurie. My problem is when I feel like I have to take advantage of the opportunity when I get the opportunity to go into the 'city'. Sprinfield MO is a 2hr drive one way for me. I don't make it very often. However I do try to plan the trip around a good coupon weekend between Mike's, HL and JoAnne's. The closest LSS is an hour away and I don't go that direction very often.

As for pay, I'm alotting myself 75 cents per card...I think I need to add exercise into the mix and that will encourage me to exercise more too!!
A clean space is always motivating! A lot of the girls payed themselves for weight loss and exercise last year. Go for it!

I don't have much money to play with either, Deb. But I figure I can bank it and when something comes along and I do have cash to spend, I have an 'account' to draw from.

I wanted to ask what you all thought about carrying over a positive balance from last year?
Hehehe

I'd say 2 choices
1) carry it over, you've earned it.
2) Take it shopping! Then start this year from scratch to see if you can come out farther ahead than last year

Good job, Shell. I think the stamp challenge is going to help me over here as well. I'm planning on stamping today while Adrian naps. ::: crossing fingers ::::

Thanks everyone for keeping the thread running while I've been otherwise occupied. Our daughter left for Nashville last week and now has a job. I'm on single grandma duty. I can't turn my back on ths 2 yr old for a second. She thinks she's part monkey. She climbs EVERYWHERE! LOL But I'm enjoying having her around.

Hubby gave me a homemade gift card for Christmas - good for 1 Cricut. So last week I bought the Create. I won't get to take it out of the box and play with it for aoh 2.5 weeks... until hubby gets home and can take over granddaughter duty for an afternoon. I did purchase 1 cartridge on clearance so I need to adjust my total to reflect a $25 expenditure. Going to have to work hard to make it up.

Default S2S Challenge #2

I'm going to try posting a new challenge every Friday. Play with it for the week and post to the gallery. Please use S2S-2 for the tag. Thanks

For those of you who missed the first one...
S2S-1 Make 1 card for each of the 12 months. Pick an occassion and play!
this challenge was inspired by the Jan. issue of Crafts nThings magazine.

And for this week....

S2S-2 Create a Valentine from non-tradional colors. No Pink or Red allowed.

Go for It!

Ooh, a challenge - I'll do that today!

I decided that since I'll be making so many cards to get out of the hole I started the year in, I'm going to give myself an extra 10 cents per card that I donate to Operation Quiet Comfort...and I'm going to have my daughter's Girl Scout troop make a bunch of cards for them using my supplies as well!!

Good luck, Kelly!! I hope you get some time to play/work while she sleeps.

I can add another 34.20 to my total. 34 cards done this week (23 yesterday, alone), and 2 more stamp sets used.

Total - $65.10 earned ..... $0 spent.

Shhhh don't tell anyone I kind of miss being a leader/trainer. hehe. I just don't have time anymore. I was a leader for almost 20 years and we did all kinds of stuff. Unfortnately, it was BEFORE I got into cardmaking. Point me to Operation Quiet Comfort, please

Jaydin must occupy herself really well. LOL 'course she is older than Adrian. That helps.

I got the cs tub brought up but not the stamps/inks so won't be stamping until bedtime for her.
