Default S2S12K - Challenge

Good morning, everyone!

This week I would like you to help me celebrate a major mile stone for young ladies.... 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts!

Today marks the 100th Anniversary of the beginning of a special club for girls. A program where they could learn to do lots of cool things, make new friends, and feel a part of something. For me, Girl Scouts truly lives the 'no child left behind'. It doesn't matter whether you live in a mansion or in a card board box. Girl Scouts of the USA reach out to all girls.

I am a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts. I spent almost 20 years as a Girl Scout Leader, working with Daisy's all the way through Cadette/ Seniors. I have large troops and small, 1 troop a week to doing 5 troop meetings a week! My (step) Mom was the oldest active troop leader until her death at 72. I've also served on many other service positions with my IL council to foster education for both girls and leaders as well as helped design a program for Girl Scout National. I've not always agreed with everything they've done but the core values have always been there... and continues today.

Your challenge today includes a BONUS!

1) Create a card celebrating the Girl Scouts.
Keep their colors in mind (It's not all about Green so this gives you some play room)

2) BONUS - Mail your card to either your local council or to the National Headquarters.

You will find all the information you need for this challenge at. GIRL SCOUTS OF THE USA

Keep in mind - THIS is National Girl Scout Week - so if you're going to mail your card for the BONUS - it needs to be done in a timely manner!

Have FUN - because that's what being a Girl Scout is - FUN!

I joined this challenge to try to keep me from impulse spending. For the most part I'm doing pretty good. However, I was looking at the ScrapRack website and they have Freestyle Mouse kit from Purple Cows. It sells for $29.95. The kit has a freestyle cutter shaped like a skinny computer mouse with a straight blade included, 12 different cutting blades, a cutting mat, and a ruler if you want to cut straight lines. The blades alone sell for around $5 each. So I broke down and ordered one and got it in today's mail. Just played with it on some scraps. I'm glad I caved. It's going to be so handy to use next weekend during the art show. Oh yeah, you can get this at the Purple Cows website, too, for the same price.
Sometimes you just HAVE TO - Debbie The point about this whole thing was that you were aware of what you were doing. You'd researched the product and felt it was something you would use. Can't wait to see what you create with it!

I have a question. When is deadline for the "use music on your card" challenge? Is it already too late to do it since you have already posted this week's? I just found my music scrap and have an idea.

I'm still here. We've had storms the last couple of days. I've taken advantage of having the computer down to clean out the office side of my Studio. I hate the 'putting stuff back' process LOL

Spent Tuesday in the city with my sister. Very little shopping. Hardly any of the DCWV slabs for March were on the shelves. So disappointing.

I'll get everyone caught up on Sunday.

LOL I forgot to tell you Kelly. I had said I didn't think I'd ever heard of DCWV...

well Clint's son came to visit one day and brough this gf with him. She got bored with BOY chatter so she came in my room. SHe's sitting on the floor going through my dp and finds this 'slab' of paper my sister talked me into a year ago
It is called immortal love, Katy is going on about how that paper matches book covers for Twilight and pic in it are from that show. I looked over as she flipped it.. It is a DCWV slab.

HUmm guess I have heard of them before! LOL I just loved the roses and wolves in it!

I finally 'closed' the books on 2011 S2S. I had added up all my tickets and closed the check register but I decided I wanted something else.

I found a 6-column spreadsheet notebook in my stash.
In the big 'subject column' I've put the month on every other line. Then my columns are:
CARDS
ALTER
LO
SWAP
$ SPENT
$ + or - for the month

This will give me an idea of where I'm spending the majority of my crafting time.
For January: 52 cards/ 5 altered projects/ 10 LO/ participated in 5 Swaps, spent $100 and came out $172.50 to the good

February: 129 cards/ 4 altered projects/ 0 LO/ 10 Swaps/ spent $41 and came out $135 to the good

March: 30 cards/ 0 altered projects/ 0 LO/ 3 swaps/ spent $165 (darn SAB!) and came out -$134

It will be interesting to see how 2012 stacks up. I'll pull my tabs for January and February later in the week and get them entered/ shared.

I can say for the entire year:
336 Cards
30 Altered projects
40 LO (mostly for swaps)
40 Swaps
$423 Spent
-$6.50 for the year. Hmmm Guess I need to work on that.

Thanks for an early posting. I never knew that Big Bird and my youngest DD were born on the same day! I wonder how old Big Bird is? I imagine he is a bit older than my DD.

Today is the last day of winter. And winter it is around here. It snowed all day today. Finally quit around 4:00 this afternoon. It was that wet, heavy snow so we got some very needed moisture. Of course, that wet, heavy snow knocked out the power and telephone lines. Power just came back on about an hour ago. Right after my boss made the decision to close down the library. I got an unexpected day off. Instead of stamping, I snuggled up in a quilt and read. Lights are flickering again. Looks like we're going to lose power again.

Hey Debbie

No snow here. Though the west side of MO got up to 5+" of rain yesterday, I had a beautiful day on the eastern side. Even put a few things on the line to dry.

The sun is shining but about 40 miles west of me the sky doesn't look so friendly. I'm headed into the small town for some quick grocery shopping and mailing bills Ewww.

Be safe!

Except for the slushy snow on the ground, it's a beautiful day. The sun is shining. There is a bit of a chilly wind, though. It's supposed to get up to almost 70° by Thursday. The farmers sure are not complaining too much about yesterday's snowfall. It's just a mess getting around.

I am having a hard time getting in the mood for cardmaking. I know I need to make some, I just don't have the desire. I've been like this for the past couple weeks. It must be due to only having one day off during the week lately. I really need to get busy. At least it's been more than a week since I've had to make a sympathy card.

I finally got make something other than a sympathy card. Thata was getting very depressing. This also qualifies for the challenge to have yellow on your card. I really wasn't thinking of the challenge when I make this. Spongebob happens to be my great nephew's favorite character.

I made a card for this week's Big Bird challenge. It's yellow and has flowers, but no Big Bird. Happy Birthday anyway, you big yellow goof! It will be my little prayer pal's 6th birthday next week, so this will be for her.

I made 7 more cards this weekend. None of them use any of the challenges for this month. At least I 'm back to wanting to make cards. These are part of a set of cards I'm working on to give to my DD sometime this year. I had planned on the set being a Christmas present but didn't get around to making them.

These help to bring my total up. I can't believe how much I've spent already this year. I think when I get the urge to buy something I really don't need, i'll write a check towards a bill. Can you just see someone opening up that envelope and finding all these checks in weird amounts?

Your cards are fantastic, ladies. Debbie, so glad you've found your Mojo! I know that 'one day a week' is packed full of must-do's instead of what you'd like to do.

Hehehe... I managed to curb my enthusiasm this weekend while we were in the city. I still have to write the check for my SAB tomorrow That's gonna hurt as I've had not crafting time this month.

I am so bad... I keep thinking I am going to do these challenges, then I have scrapbook challenges to do, an then VSBN coming up. I really have uploaded a lot this month, just not for your wonderful challenges! And, i am so far behind on uploading my totals for what I have made and spent. I have to set down and figure that out. Maybe after VSBN this week-end! I still have Christmas cards to make for my Christmas cards goal, too. I an thinking that I am involved in too many threads!!! Do ya think? But then that is what keeps me inspired!

I actually made a card for the challenge. i've had this TAC set for a very long time and never used it. I don't know why this challenge made me think of this stamp. Then the stamp reminded me of a few "senior moment" so my holiday today is Senior Moments Holiday. It's okay to have all the "senior moments" you want today. Thanks for a fun challenge, Kelly.

I wish I had checked this thread this morning, so I could have celebrated my special day instead of sleeping (working nights). I haven't even had a chance to think of what I want to celebrate! ? Maybe sleep.....

I thought I would get a chance to make a card for this week's challenge, but life got in the way. I have to finish packing, run some errands and then off to Austin to see my grandkids!

Where's Michele Tinsley? I haven't seen her on this thread for awhile. I have just received my goodie package for winning the February ndraw. It's an amazing package, with lots of cool stuff. I messaged Michele, but her message box is too full for the message to be delivered. Thanks so much Michele, for a wonderful prize and for being so helpful.

Here I am, Ina! It has been crazy busy here so I haven't been on SCS much and definitely haven't been crafty unless you count my daughter's science projects. LOL! I'm glad you got the package and liked it. Have fun!

Quiet on here for a while. So I totally have to start over beginning today as it is a new month. Not just starting the month but the whole year. UGH! I had been keeping track in an excel spread sheet. That is what I have done for the last couple of years and it has worked great! Until my laptop got a virus and totally crashed a few weeks ago. I won't be able to do anything about it for at least a month, if not longer so everything I had recorded before is gone. UGH!!! The good news is I kind remember where I was, I think I was in the black about $5, but to be fair, I will start at zero again. I will use Kelly's check register method this time. I know I didn't spend anything in March on stamping/scrapping supplies and I did one secret sister swap and made 13 scrap book pages. So if I did spend anything I don't remember, those should still keep me to the good.

A couple of girlfriends have gotten me back into quilting again. I don't know which is worse. My budget can't handle both, so I have to decide which I will spend my tiny craft budget for the month on. I did a major fabric purge about 5 years ago when I hadn't done any sewing/quilting for a few years. So I don't have much of a fabric stash and have been very diligent in not buying anything I do not mot have a specific purpose for since I have started again.

Default S2S12N - Challenge!

We spent today walking around Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds - 1400 heirloom garden seeds! for their Heritage Days Festival. It was miserably HOT! We were so ready to COOL down!

A friend of mine in Canada was experiencing SNOW today. She said it looked like Christmas.

So where is this all going?

Today (Monday) is International Children’s Book Day
Commemorating the Birth of Hans Christian Anderson

So your CHALLENGE - KEYWORD S2S12N

Show me your Ice Skates. BONUS points if they are white and silver.

If you're working on Christmas cards - this might be a great time to create one card and assembly line 5 or 10.

Let's LACE UP!
