AOCC13--February

This is where you post your cards for AOCC13 for February. links to challenges will be in post #3 of main thread if you need a mojo boost

yellowrose46 01-31-2013 11:32 AM

I only have two birthdays this month. One is for my grandson's 18th birthday and I used a card that I received in a swap, because it was a gorgeous card with a guitar on it. (he's a musician) The other one is going out tomorrow. I think I posted it on the January thread.
I also made a card for the challenge, AOCC13 C, combined with the teapot challenge for this week. I used papers from my stash, and also a piece of a card sent to me from World Vision for my sponsored child (forgot to send it) for a back to school card. It featured a blackboard and I cut out that piece and ran it through my cuttlebug in the big dot embossing folder and then sanded it down to make a polka dot paper.

I guess I didn't post my other birthday card....a card for my old neighbour's husband (she moved away when she remarried).

I have 7 birthdays, 2 anniversaries, and a baby shower this month. Much lighter load! :)

yellowrose46 02-01-2013 01:05 PM

Paula, I call that a heavy month! My month is light......two cards required and they are both sent off. I will need a few thank you cards, and a baby card, but maybe the VSN mini today will help.

Ksnurse 02-01-2013 05:12 PM

WaaaaHoooo!!! some of you already here ahead of me....great job....I don't have any events in Feb so will just be making cards for my stash. This one I did for the first Mixability challenge...what fun....It actually was just a practice piece...but I liked the way it looked...so finished a card..

Cannot find what the challenge for Feb is - can someone please tell me. (and as a side note, what is VSN - keep seeing it mentioned).

yellowrose46 02-03-2013 05:20 AM

Feb 1 challenge is to use up your scraps and other things you have saved. Could be paper from a pretty Kleenex box. It's post number 135 in the general AOCC thread. It's AOCC13C

yellowrose46 02-03-2013 05:25 AM

Oops, VSN is short for Virtual Stamping Night, which was Friday. Challenges were posted every hour from 5 until 10 p.m. You have until today midnight to post the cards. I never take part, as I am a slow card maker, and have to think on a design for a day or so before I even start making a card. If you go to the Forum page and look under challenges, it is listed near the end.

Sheri, love your cards. How do you do such perfect clouds? :)

Greywolf 02-04-2013 10:09 AM

I played in the new Mixed Media challenge for my first February cards. I also played in the VSN Mini, but didn't think I should also use them for AOCC. My first Feb. birthday card is due next Sunday, the 10th, and I'll send one of these to that friend.

Now that the VSN Mini is over, I can take some time to look at the galleries to see what you all have been doing.

I previously posted that I only had two birthdays this month. Well, that was before I checked my church birthday list!! Three on there that I really need to make cards for, and I just noticed on facebook, that my son's girlfriend has a birthday on the 13th. I am using cards from my stash for two of these birthdays, but I have made a card for the elderly former pastor who is a member of our church. I don't usually follow the AOCC challenges, but I noticed people talking about using scraps, so my card certainly qualifies for the AOCC13C challenge. Read about my ongoing, long-term organization project here:

Just realised I haven't uploaded the card I made for our son, it's already in the post so hopefully he will get it before 18th
I was just thinking I only had two for march when I found out a friend from football is sixty on march 1st and another couple have their 40th wedding anniversary on march 10th and our DIL has a birthday on 13th, suddenly I'm desperately trying to find ideas, Ive almost finished the 60th card. Still it's all going to help my totals keep out of the red!

I needed a Bithday and Valentine for my MIL, a Get Well for my cousin and a Sympathy for some good friends of mine. Had to hurry and get the last 3 in the mail on Friday and didn't take the time to take a pic of them.

grammatroll 02-10-2013 07:13 PM

Here is one more birthday card for this month. I have one more to make. I made this one for the Yin-Yang mixability challenge. I've never used paint on a card before.

I was wondering why I didn't post in February yet since I made a card last week. Well, I forgot to take a picture of it before giving it away. Just got caught up with the galleries. Wonderful cards, ladies.

My comments are always short and sweet. Mostly because everyone else took the words out of my mouth. I appreciate all the comments on my cards.

Tax season is in full swing. Yesterday was my first day as a volunteer for this year. I was hoping to have missed all the glitches. I did miss the worst of the glitches in the software, but slow computers had me backed up. I hate it when I run out of time with someone and have to reschedule to finish. Luckily, most of my clients yesterday were employees of the credit union where I do the taxes. I'll have to go in next Tuesday morning to finish them. Hopefully, the rest of the season goes real smooth. I won't hold my breath, though.

jan31 02-12-2013 08:16 AM

So Debbie, do you do your own taxes as in the states? so glad we have the tax man, if its wrong, he is to blame .not that i it matters to me, I don't get a bean seeing as they changed the pension laws, I will be sixty two and a half before I get anything, luckily Steve gets his police pension!

Greywolf 02-12-2013 11:41 AM

I made two scenic cards. One I will use as a thank you to a dear friend who is always so sweet to me. The other, I'm not sure if I can part with it, because for a beginner project, I'm pretty pleased with it. I might hang on to it for a few weeks until just the right need presents itself.

Lighthouse Thanks

Jan, I'm a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This is a free service for anyone with income of $51,000 or less. All volunteers have to take tests to certify every year. Because I'm a volunteer, I'm not responsible for any mistakes. Yes, I do make some. We have to do what is called a Quality Review. When I'm done with a return, I call someone else and they go over it, too, to make sure I didn't transpose numbers, or miss something. I double check before calling. It's nice to have that extra pair of eyes on the days I'm having trouble with my brain. My reward is all the smiles and thank yous I get. Volunteers are not allowed to accept anything, not even a tip. I've had to turn down tips a lot.

yellowrose46 02-12-2013 04:56 PM

Debbie, that is a great service you are performing. What would our society be without volunteers!

Thanks, Ina. It feels good to know I'm appreciated. Not one person I have helped over the years has not thanked me. I thought one guy was going to kiss me one year. He was sure he was going to have to pay a lot of taxes and ended up getting back what he thought he was going to have to pay. This man was almost in tears, he was so happy. That's the best kind of payment as far as I'm concerned.
