Paula...wow...I thought my family was bad but with 28 first cousins what do ya expect, right? but I think the most I have in 1 week is 3. good luck to you gettin them done
I don't send cards to cousins, but I do send them to nieces and nephews and some of their kids. If I did first cousins, I would be behind all the time. I had 81 first cousins......,mom came from a big family of ten kids and my dad had 5 siblings, and had a sister who had 13 kids! Luckily most of them are in the Netherlands. I only had 6 cousins in Canada and one of them has passed on.

I have to chuckle too as I think back! I had to do a "shore to ship" call to give the another bundle on the way news!! Me: Guess what? over. He: What? over. that's how the conversation would go, at the conclusion of each sentence when you would want to let the other party speak, you would have to say "over" then "over and out" so the operator would know to disconnect. No privacy at all in those conversations!! LOL

I grew up with the party line. First we had 4 households on our line, then it went to two. One of the 4 was my very nosy grandmother. When they dropped down to the two-party line, Grandma got off ours. Both households had teenagers so getting any phone time was almost a fight. Yep, I'm that old.

I grew up with the party line too, and the old telephone with the crank at the side. We had a dairy farm and dad would come in from milking when he found out a cow was in heat and he would have to call the artificial insemination people before they left on their route for the day, and would frequently have to break into the conversations of ladies on the line. I'm sure they would listen in to my dad's conversation (so exciting!). I still remember the number. He'd turn the crank and say Zenith 60850. I can't remember my good friend's cell phone number, but I can still remember that!

Wow! What a blast from the past. Party lines and listening to conversations (accidently, of course!) My BFF # was 505W and our # was 683L. Funny, that we can recall those numbers, and I can't even remember MY OWN cell number!! I remember vividly my grandmother's crank phone; if it rang in as two longs and one short, then she was to answer it...but, everyone on that line picked up regardless of the rings!! Technology has come a long way, for sure!

I too, grew up with a party line. I had forgotten about that! It was so annoying hearing the phone ring for all the families in our party and listening for your ring.

Ok all, I'm gonna put up the Feb 1st challenge a little early as my next few days will be a little wild with appts and don't want to forget.

Feb 1st Challenge: One of my goals this yr is to cut down on some of the "stuff" I have so I challenge myself and you to use up some of your scraps; or anything else in the house that's collecting dust and would look good on a card. got any old cereal boxes anyone?

Good challenge, Sheri. I've been trying to use up all the dp I have before buying new ones. That is quite a challenge when I see something I might have to have. I've been good about it for the past 6 months. Haven't bought a single sheet of new dp. I do have cereal boxes stashed away. Guess it's time to really use them.

My last b'day party was my 11th (many years ago)
it was a cake at my moms mother's house, with my step dad and his brother. that was it.
I got a saddle for my gift

For my 18th b'day my boyfriend (later husband) was taking me, his mom and my dd to the Zoo in Duluth and MIL was singing happy b'day to u, trying to teach Carrie.
I finally asked her after about 30 minutes if she find something different, she said but it is your b'day today! I had no idea! LOL
It was funny, cuz that was Brian's reason for going to the Zoo.

Aside for a gaziilion greetings from my new found friends here on SCS, I don't acknowledge it.

LOL I loved being nosey on my grama's phone! I don't remember a ring tone special for her though
I know I was about 8 or 9 when we had a phone in our house and they taught me how to answer NICELY
Wish ppl were still taught that one...it's annoying to call someone and get a "wa sup"

My step son is great for that one. Sadly hubby talks the same way!

My last birthday party, well not really for me, was when I was twenty one, heavily pregnant , steve was in the British army and on my birthday, Halloween, and yes i am a true scorpio!! was our battery birthday, steve arranged for my friend to bake me a cake and the whole battery sang happy birthday, highly embarrassing as I was very shy.
Last year steve took me away for my big 60, I'm not really a party girl so that was really nice as it was a surprise trip.

I don't have birthdays as such anymore cuz I'm never going to admit to being over 50. 50 is ok, but not more than that...So I have annual celebrations of my greatness...and I will accept any token of your affection you wish to give me...LOL!!! seriously no more b-days.

If only it was so easy to forget birthdays, I think most of us would call a halt to them. It's just frightening how quickly they come around

Oh gosh, I missed all this conversation about party lines. We had 10 families on ours. Our number was 800F33 - 3 long and 3 short. Yes, we had to break into conversations sometimes if we had to make an important call. And yes, there was a lot of listening in. The funny thing is that my Mom and I were so tuned into the phone that we could sleep through rings in the night, but if it rang 3-3, we would wake up immediately! And we had a live operator, a neighbor, who would answer if we rang just one long ring. She would answer questions, provide information and connect long-distance calls. She probably knew everyone's business in the area.

Back to the telephone! Right out of High School I was a long distance operator!! DDD (direct distance dialing) was just being introduced, but it still had to go through the switchboard! Oh gosh! I loved working the switchboard! To break up a late night evening, we would sometimes answer by holding our nose so we would sound nasal!! LOL Of course, the "old" operators didn't see the humor in it!! We were young and insane!!

Default AOCC13D Feb 15th Challenge

I thought I would post tomorrow's challenge early.
I have been MIA, doing VSBN challenges, 14 scrapbook pages! since last Friday. One thing I notice as I was scrapping, was all of the dies I have! Spellbinders, MFT, SU!, and Tim Holtz. I bet you all have an abundance of dies, too! So, the challenge is to make a card with at least two different dies! Bonus points if you use more than two!

So lets see those cards with dies on them! I will put one in the gallery tomorrow! Don't forget the keyword for the challenge. AOCC13D
