And so begins the final week of 2011. Are you ready to look ahead?
Here is a pic of my Card album. I created this for a class I taught about 6 years ago. The idea came from Cards magazine (I think).
I used art matting paper for the cover and the base of the pockets. The DP is Anna Griffin. I have a pocket page for each month. It was created for family and close friends. I use a plastic shoe box with dividers for stamp/ scrap friends as well as 'cards to have on hand' such as seasonal, thinking of you and sympathy.
The address book is an altered long/narrow $1 notebook from Michaels. I decorated the outside then divided the # of pages in half. The first half is tabbed for Family and each page is stamped at the top with a letter. Then I repeated the process for the 2nd half of the album for Friends
I know it's the day after Christmas... but now is the time to look at your card list if you have anyone celebrating the first week of January. Dash them off in the mail then be ready to focus on the rest of January cards.
Remember to post at least 1 of your cards here (or a link to your gallery) so I can credit you for the monthly participation drawing.

I am crating a new OSW to use Side Step, Tri Shutter and Center Step cards.
I have them figured in, but I have too much left over yet.
I just did a set for B'day for here, but no pics uploaded yet
I still need to do a very special and above my normal for my great Aunt
I too did a OSW today too...10 cards! All birthday for my February BRAK cards. I found a print out today of a OSW using an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of designer paper....I had a blast in the craft room. The house was quiet (DH went into the city for a dentist apppointment)....
I still have my January birthday/anniversary cards to do....they are all 'special' ones...I'll be back in the craft room tomorrow morning..and all day Wednesday..getting a tooth pulled tomorrow afternoon...Yuck!

I have 2 card lists for Birthdays/ anniversaries.
(I have a totally separate list for Christmas Cards)
1) Family & Friends
2) Stamping Friends
I have a list for each by month that I keep in my dayplanner behind the appropriate month. I'm still a 'paper' kind of girl. If you are more computer organized, then DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. The important thing is to KNOW AHEAD OF TIME who you want to sends card to. Even if you only do it on a month by month basis.
For the FAMILY - I list them in chronological order by date and in ( ) after their name - the year they were born or married. This is especially important when it comes to kids. Heaven fordbid you send a juvenile card to a teenager. LOL
Most people have an address book. If you've not mailed something to someone in awhile, now is a good time to make sure the address you have is current. Why not give them a quick call to wish them Happy New year and update your address book.
For this week.. Focus on January. You have a couple weeks in January to work on your February list. Remember... Once you organize this, you're good to go for the rest of the time you intend to mail cards. Let's put this on track together!
I'll post pics in a couple minutes of my list and where I keep my cards.
One of my Little Sisters for DSS sent me after the round was over, Flower of the month.. all colored and cut with Nesties and a mat to go with it, the month and DP It was quite the package to get from a little sister! but I made this with it
It's 8" x 8 1/2" on a ring, like a flip chart
I noticed the colors are awful in the pic, it is Plum Perfect
(or is it Perfect Plum) LOL
I don't separate Friends and family, and I also put the year of.. after the names
Kelly I secretly got in your head one night and got ideas straight from you! LOL

Cute!
Yes, I have the year they were born/ married after their names on the list in my dayplanner
I am trying hard to use up all of the SU Card Stock I have that is no longer current...
Sadly that box really over powers the current box.
The DP I have no clue where it came from.
I will not mention which of my OSW templates I used since I miss cut 9 of the pieces! LOL
I was multi tasking.. bad idea while cutting paper!
I have you down, VikkiJo. I have that paper. If I come across it doing mine this week I'll let you know. I believe it's from a comp. that also does a slab but it's not DCWV

I'm still trying to get my Dec cards mailed.
Got Jan made though
Please put me down for the All Occasion Challenge. I just realized my niece's birthday is Jan 6 and she's the other side of the continent. So the challenge will keep me on track for such things!
I finished my thank you cards tonight. Now I can start on my January birthday cards. If no one changes my mind for me, I'm going to have a cardmaking marathon next weekend. I can't think of a better way to end one year and start a new one.
I've been on a complete and absolute roll. I've created so many cards these past few days.
I created a get well soon for a sick family member and I need to create a birthday card for January. I've done many already, but they were for blog challenges.
I really want to work on my stash. I would love to have sympathy, get well soon, birthday and anniversary cards.
I'll work on making that birthday card for January and making some spare ones in case I get asked for some by family members.

That sounds like a plan, Debbie. Bob's already told me he's going rabbit hunting on Saturday. Other than covering a thing for the paper in the afternoon, I might be free to play too.

Just so you know... even if you've made a card for a challenge, it still counts here. I don't have a problem with you combining challenges. This isn't really a challenge - more than it is motivation. So where ever you get the inspiration from to do your cards... works
January should be easy for me (knock on wood) for birthday cards-I have 3 (but they all share the same day)-my husband, father in law and brother in law. But I'll have to get started on my kids Valentines cards. Older ds wants robots for his school friends and younger ds will get what I make. I am trying to convince older ds to give his friends book marks but was told that isn't cool.
So I guess I am on the hunt for robot stamps.
There is a cute set on clearance over at Technique Tuesday... they are having their year-end sale so retiring sets are 40% off this week. I think you may have to subscribe to their newsletter, but the coupon code is SafeBet.
OK, I'm jumping in too....Wasn't sure but since there aren't any specific requirements I think I can handle it....and I sooooooo need to get better organized. I need 4 b-day cards in Jan....my 3 youngest sisters were all born on same day, just 1 yr apart....and a nephew later in month....
I can do a couple challenges also, as long as I can do them the day before if working, I'm flexible...I'll wait and see when you need someone to fill in...
Okay so for family... I need 3 female birthday cards and 2 male cards ( all adult ) for January.
this is not including anniversary's or kids ( things I don't remember)
and I have no clue really which of my friends have January birthdays.
a few years ago I did an altered Rolodex swap with internet friends at that time that is sorted by month with the event has a mug shot, so if its a birthday there is a photo of that person's face plus its decorated ( scrap style ) and the back of the cards list the info, what the event is ( if its an anniversary, the address etc) and I added in my family to it when I got the friend cards in the mail.
I think my rolodex is open to a page in last sept. some time.
I'm debating about adding "friends" to the list, but so far got one Birthday card done and its not the best one... and so that is the hardest thing I guess, when you finish something that in your mind its not as good as you thought it would be when you started it becomes a well, lets do another one when there is more time and set this one aside ( and it ends up hauled to a booth or donated ) because, its not the "best" card.
the other problem I have is my family reads my blog... so If i make a card for a color combo or sketch challenge and set it aside thinking it would work for so and so, I cant send it out months later because they have already seen it on the blog and know I did not stop what ever I was doing to make them a card at last minute just for them.
I'm thinking too hard I guess.

Maybe you just need to say on your blog that you "made this card for a special relative and they will be seeing it in their mailbox soon/on their special day/etc."
Stacy, just put in your post that you are trying to be better organized this year and planning ahead for birthdays and anniversaries.
That rolodex idea sounds cool. Would love to see a pic. Is there one in your gallery you can direct us to?
As to the 'perfection' thing. We are our own worst critics. Stop second-guessing yourself. I have a friend who is very good at this and her work is lovely. Not as fancy as some and prettier than a lot, but it is 'her' style and that's all that's important.
Thought I was going to have a 4-day cardmaking marathon this weekend, but I have to work Friday so it gets cut down to 3 days. I also have to work on my certification for the 2012 tax season. But I still have a few weeks to get that done. If I can shake this headache I might start tonight.

Debbie - hope that headache goes away for you!!

Heh, awesome about "combining" challenges. I have a few sketch challenges I want to complete and will use at least one of them to make that male birthday card I need for January. The other one will be a get well soon. I have none of those in my stash.
I'm not sure how it will work out for me, but I do send a good number of cards each month - birthday, sympathy, a few anniversary, encouragement. Most of the time I can pull something from my "stash," but often I have to scramble to get something made at the last minute. Also, I've been known to mail birthday cards a few days late.
Sounds like a terrific idea! I have a few Jan. 1st birthdays, but they are in my Sunday School class, so I'll hand deliver them on Sunday.
Edited to add: I have 7 January birthdays (6 women and 1 man). I'll also make 10 "encouragement" cards for my Sunday School class to sign to be sent to the shut-ins in our class. I have them sign 2 each Sunday. No anniversaries; others as the need arises. I've got 4 of the shut-in cards done already.

Okay today I did only made (one Christmas card ) so, got the two female cards done, one of the male cards done. and I think I will send the wreath card from a few days ago to Hubs aunt. so, this leaves me with one more guy birthday for Jan to get done. ( these are in the gallery now)
I like most of my cards, its once in a while I will be messing around ( I use a lot of my scraps) and I will just grab what ever and it does not work, or I will try to use a paper I dont like much and I used it because i had it and it seems wasteful not to, but I think one thing I really need to do is go through my printed papers and make a donate it pile again. ( Ive done it lots of times) or if something came in a pad and those always have papers you dont like in them just give them away so I dont feel like I "have to" make those papers I dont like work.
( kwim?) today I did do one Christmas card (and its not in the gallery yet) and until I decide its not going in the garbage It may not make it that far.

Altered Rolodex started out as a small painted flip one, and evolved into a spinning pink one... ( will have to re-shoot it again some time) these are very old photos..

I do on occasion pass along some paper to friends, but I had not thought about donating it. Where do you donate yours? I guess I could give it to the children's department at church... Much better than throwing it out or, as you said, trying to use it just because I have it, but then being unhappy with the results.
