Default No permission to access this page

Hi!
I am new at Splitcoaststampers, since today. I don't know exactly how it works, but I'm trying to post a whislist (at FULFILL YOUR WISHLIST - ROUND 3 - EXPRESS IMAGE SWAP) and I get the message I do not have permission to access this page. Do you know why?
Thanks, Renata

Default Standard Size Card

I'm new to the card making/swap thing, but I'm really excited to give it a try. When a swap says the card is to be standard size, what size is that exactly?

I just did my first recipe swap and realized I forgot to put the size in the title. Can I edit the title? I did edit the description and put the size first thing but would like to get it in the title. Thanks.

A normal full card is half of an 8.5 X 11 sheet folded in half. If the swap is for card fronts it would be 5.5 X 4.25.

Default how to change a title

Hello,
I started a swap and read your instructions. But I've tried to add to my title, but I can't do it. When I go to edit to add people it won't let me go to the title to change it. So how do I do that?
Thanks

I went step by step trying to get a link for my swap, but it doesn't go to it.
So is there a different newer way or something?
Thanks

You went to this post?

How to Add Your Swap to Your Signature

Did you see there is a modified link there in the first post?

I think you also need to make sure that your editor is on WYSIWYG. To do that click on the Welcome, willowisp80 in the upper right corner of the page. Then look for Edit Options in the left column. Once that page opens you are going to scroll all the way to to the box that says Message Editor Interface. For that pull down menu you want to make sure it is set on Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing

I have a question. I've been swapping for years & years & have never had this happen to me. I signed up for a swap 6 days ago (the only one signed up), and the hostess has never been back to the swap since then. I've bumped it up several times or it would be buried in the back pages of the swap list. At first I thought maybe an emergency came up, but I see the hostess has been on another swap she's hosting within the last 24 hours. I don't want to flake out, but I don't want to be in a swap by myself either. Really I'd just as soon drop out. I did ask what's up, but no answer. Help, please.

Hey there. I've seen several posts about paper but I have one about ink. Everyone states to use a good ink like Staz-on or Momento so they don't smear. I haven't actually heard of Momento- I'm pretty much a pure SU-purchaser at this point. Does the SU Basic Black qualify as a "good ink"? I haven't had problems with it smearing when I watercolor it but I didn't know since it's never mentioned. I know I can ask the hostess but it seems to be a general question across all swaps.

Are you looking at image swaps? Staz-on is best for watercoloring. The SU! ink does run overtime when watercoloring. Momento is one of the preferred inks to use when coloring with copics.

Default What is an embellishment?

Silly question, huh? I have been doing a bunch of swaps and I love them. They all say something like, "At least one embellishment..." Some even specify, a brad, eyelet, button, etc. I was wondering the other day if a paper piecing would be considered an embellishment, or is it not because the card itself is paper with layers usually required. This would be over and above the specified cardstock/layering required. I have a cricut, and can make all kinds of images...If this question makes sense, let me know.

Thanks!

Not a silly question at all! To me, an embellishment is a piece of "hardware" that is added to the card. I personally don't think punched paper (a die-cut or something punched with a punch) is an embellishment. Unless, you make the punched piece into something that resembles a, well, embellishment (that is like a 3-D flower or something)! lol If you have doubts, you could always ask the hostess and see what she thinks is acceptable.

Very cool, thanks for the info! I will just have to add "hardware" to my paper piecings!

is there a specific format for the recipe on the back of a swap card? Just about to do mine and I wasn't sure.

The swap forum is now a user group. You need to join the group in order post and participate in swaps. There is information on that in this thread here:

The Swap Forum is Now a User Group! How to Sign Up & Important Rules HERE

The steps to join the group are in post #5 of that thread.

How long should I give a swap before I give up? I've only had one person sign-up for my Haunted Mansion swap and I don't want that person to make all their letters if I have to cancel for non-interest. Should I give it a while? I've participated in many, but this is the first one I've hosted so I'm unsure how long I should give people.

Does setting a sign-up deadline help? Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I could do to make my swap more interesting?

Thanks so much!

You seem like you are doing what you can to get swappers. You've got it in your signature, you are bumping it up.

Maybe give suggestions on where it would be used? Are we talking about using the letters to make a scrapbook page for that movie? Or are you thinking it would be used on a halloween page? It might be too specific to find that many players.

I have an unusual question...Has anyone ever PAID a hostess to do a swap?

I recently joined a swap in which each participant was required to mail a check to the hostess. The amount required was more than postage to return the swap. Supplied USPS Priority boxes and postal pick-up were used so packaging and PO drop off was not required nor charged to the hostess. We were not getting an equal amount in return--one less so the hostess could have a set of cards.

When asked what the extra amount of money was for...she replied for all the time it took to distribute the swaps.

I spent nearly $50.00 for supplies. Cardstock, designer paper, (4 layers) with embellishments, (ribbon and rhinestone brads.) Each swap went into a clear envelope (required.) I spent 3 long days putting the swaps together--one day with a helper. I spent time planning a layout and choosing the supplies. I ordered and waited for the supplies, packaged and delivered the box to the PO.

I agree, being a hostess of a large swap is a BIG undertaking. She said the extra money was to compensate her for the time she spent doing the sorting.

I spent about the same amount of time putting my entry together as she estimated to sort the swaps. I don't think she had an entry as we were getting one less back. I don't mind that at ALL. This is a customary practice--the hostess gets a set without submitting an entry. I just cannot wrap my head around the idea of getting PAID besides!!!

Without counting my TIME, I spent about $50 putting mine together PLUS postal cost (approx. $21) If someone out there can offer a consolation, explanation, warning or WHATEVER...please comment! If I don't send a check for the amount more than the return postage, I won't get my swaps back. With more than 100 participants, the hostess is collecting nearly $500 to distribute the swap and she will receive the same swap cards as all the participants without offering a sample of her own. Any ideas???

Thank you, lorijane

I have not heard of a hostess doing this before. In fact, here on Splitcoaststampers this is in violation of our terms of service.

Default Swaps

I have participated in quite a few swaps, and am really having fun. I have experienced two problems recently.

(1) I participated in a swap and never received anything back?
(2) I signed up to particiapte in a swap, and it no longer appears on the forum, and I have yet to hear anything futher on this swap. I contact the person in charge of the swap, and she never got back to me?

Is this typical?

No, you definitely should get your swaps back and I am not sure why it wouldn't appear in the forum any longer. I will PM you for more details.

i have signed up but no response!!

I would like to to do a swap but I have filled out th einfo. to get on here. but am still blocked
I keep seeing in posts here & other places that people c/o of not using brads & fibers & sitting in their stash. Would anyone be intereseted in trading their brads(no tiny ones) or fibers. I make cards for Iraq, women @ my church or e-friends who need to be cheered up .I don't sell my cards & my funds are limited.
2 people sent me some d/c Stampin up pre cut tags. They also sent a pretty card w/ it that really made my day. I keep it in my L. rm since they are so pretty. I sent a thank U card plus a blank botanical card for their time.
I'm making up botanical floral cards etc, Halloween Dustin Pike cards I would use for a swap
DH went thru the ceiling on using paypal w/it's fees. So I need to avoid that ;it's wasn't worth the argument on what I was getting
My e-mail address is haviland 49 @ yahoo.com..I like the fibers for collages I make for gifts. My problem is I don't have huge surplus to participate in swaps since I cleaned out my room last spring. I used up items I get. DH 's salary doesn't allow me to go hog wild on buying items. I've also learned how to think out of the box to use up items .That's why I read the forums on tips on products so I don't waste my money.
Would appreciate some feed back. Thanks grandmabear

I keep seeing in posts here & other places that people c/o of not using brads & fibers & sitting in their stash. Would anyone be intereseted in trading their brads(no tiny ones) or fibers. It doesn't appear that you have done the steps to join the swap group. Your request is not showing in the pending requests and you do not have the required information in your profile, so you would have been denied if did the group request and you would've gotten a PM from one of us saying that you didn't fill out the complete info.

You can find information on How to Join the Swap Forums Here: The Swap Forum is Now a User Group! How to Sign Up & Important Rules HERE
You need to complete both Step 1 and Step 2 to join.

If you are looking to trade items you might want to check the BST boards. Also, there is a RAK group here that might be more of what you are looking for.

I am currently hostessing a swap that was due 10/10. There are 6 people signed up that I have not heard from, I sent them a PM and have not gotten a response, do I just delete them??

Also, I have 3 that have told me they have mailed thier packages already and since we are supposed to swap them back out within 10 days, if I havn't recieved thier packages by the 20th, do I swap without them?? How long do I wait?? Because 10/12 was a holiday, can I give them an extra day or two?

Thanks!

I would try PMing the missing people one more time. Have you checked thier profiles? Have they been on the site? Are they members of the swap group? I would then go with my gut on that. If they haven't gotten back to you, haven't been around, and/or aren't members of the swap group I would not expect them to send in their swaps.

As far as the 10 day rule...If you swappers are ok with waiting a couple days because of the holiday then go ahead.

Thank you for the answers!!! I did check thier profiles when I PM'd them the first time, seems that a couple hadn't been on in awhile. I didn't notice if they were a memeber of the swap group, I'll check that and PM them again.

I'm wondering if there are any Canadian swaps out there.... it's really difficult where I live to get the right US postage/money to do most of the swaps, but I'd really like to get in on them...

Yes, I know there are some Canadian hostesses out there. I have seen in the past where they say that in the swap title.

Here is one I came across.
*POSTAL and on the way back to YOU!* :o)~due Dec 30~ *MOVE it! swap*

And it looks like that hostess has another going.

I know there is a Canadian Image swap out there in the products and images forum.

Hope this helps!

I am hosting my first swap Favorite Technique due 1/31/09. I posted yesterday and have had 10 people look at it but no one has signed up. I have it as a 10+1. Could that be turning people off? Could it be it's due 2 1/2 months from now? If I want to change the title to 5+1, how do I do that? I went into edit but could not change the title only the contents of the description of the swap.

I sent you a PM back. I don't see any thing wrong with your swap.

Default Question about Paper Abbreviations

Hi,

I recently joined the swap forum and have read through this thread and the hostessing and swappers thread, but I'm still a bit confused about the paper abbreviations. I figured that SU is Stamping Up, but also saw GB, which I don't know (though it's probably something I'll slap my head and say, "geez, I should have known that!). Like someone who posted earlier, I have no specialty paper stores around here to buy high quality paper. Can you also tell me which companies are considered the best for stamping? The papers that I've bought at the local craft stores don't seem bright enough.

Thanks, I can't wait to join a swap,

Are you sure it wasn't GP? That would be Georgia Pacific. I know a lot of people use that for their white cardstock.

Gina K sells a Pure Luxury white paper that is nice and smooth like SU, but more sturdy. PTI has a Stampers Select white that is great too.

Default Thanks!

Yes, I did mean GP. Thanks for explaining the different abbreviations. I want to start swapping, but want to make sure I use the right paper.

Thanks again,
