Someone just asked that question in the Totally Tiffany organization class (free, started today). She gently responded that that’s containerized, not the same as organized. lol
This summer I decided to organize all my paper into one container. Same with all my stamps. Not to keep them with the projects I was working on. So when I was giving stuff away that I didn't want any more- I forgot about the stuff I needed to keep for my projects. Surprisingly as the summer went on I stopped missing what I gave away.
Dealing with this as we speak. I had to rearrange my studio/guest room/music room to make space for my mother's piano (a small upright) and now I can't find my HUGE roll of foam tape! How can something the size of a dinner plate only thicker manage to hide so well?
Anyone else ever organize so well that you can't remember where you put stuff? Grrrrrrr.
I swear, sometimes I find stuff better when it's just in a pile on the corner of my workspace.
Grrrrrr.....
That happens to me ALL the time! I had some items in the same place for the last 5 years and then decided to get organized. Ooops, can't find them now.

I can say that I have learned my lesson about organizing in the middle of the night when I have insomnia. Then yes, I could make a bad decision.
Haha! I thought I was the only one who organized in the middle of the night when I can't sleep. My husband has learned to ignore those little rustling sounds coming from my craft room across the hall!

Oh no! My huge roll of foam tape is one of my treasures! I hang it on a nail over my craft table so that I can't possibly lose it. However, it fell off the nail once, when I didn't replace it securely after using...and I nearly had a panic attack;)
Speaking of that giant foam tape roll, my 9 year old granddaughter was staying here and making a card in my craft room when she spied the foam tape. She was completely entranced and said, "Hmmm, I think I need one of those at home". I can just imagine my daughter's face if I gave granddaughter a big roll like that. At the rate she crafts, it would last all the way through college.

Same thing for me! I've yet to find (for one thing) the blank perpetual birthday calendar I put in a "better" place while organizing.

Many was the night I was up watching late night movies or Murder She Wrote...re-orging something...came back later and would have thought I was drinking except I don't. You *think* you are really awake...:rolleyes:
I dream of a day when I have clear spaces so if I put something down-crafts or not-It is very obvious where it is.

Look behind the piano....or in the piano bench. I swear, stuff like this has legs... <giggling>

Now I feel better. I’m not alone. I looked for two weeks for my watercolor pencils. Decided to use a different color medium and then I found them. Yikes.
I used to do this a lot. Now I have a database program which I use to log everything and where it’s stored. For odd and ends that I don’t log, I have a ‘Where to Find It’ list in the notes on my phone. It includes codes for the locks and safes in my home. It requires a fingerprint to view it.
If not for this system, I’d lose more things right after I organize than at any other time 😊
The other day I bought some stamp sets and when I got home put them on my desk to put away later.
A few hours went by and I thought I better get busy and put them away but they weren't on my desk! I looked and looked, traced my steps, etc.
A few hours later after I just gave up, decided to look in the drawer I planned on putting them in... ... ... They were in the drawer! HUH? I have no recollection of putting them there! Who did? LOL! The dog? (We do not have a dog.)

haha! Well, that's why dogs are handy, you can always blame them! Guess you'd better get a dog now.
I just received an order from JoAnn.com the other day and had ordered two sets of the same stamp set (one to give to a friend). I can only find ONE of them now, so will have to go through my entire craft room to find the other one. I'm pretty sure there were two in the box, but I need to make sure that I wasn't shorted...sigh...

I confess...my dog came and put it away:p

That is the trick you know. Stop looking. You'll find it in 10 mins.
"When I'm looking around for something in my house, I say this all the time: 'It's going to be in the last place I look,' " he said. "Of course it's going to be in the last place I look! Who finds something and keeps on looking?"
I never forgot this joke by David Brenner decades ago.
oh my goshhh yes! I did that one year with some wooden Christmas stamps, put them in a container to "have more room" as I only use them towards the holidays. Do you think I could find them when I looked for them? ohhh nooo. Finally found them! I bought a labeler and now I label every thing LOL (yes, put one on the dog in case he forgets who he is . LOLOLOL ) I have a unit that has drawers and I put a label on those too. I will be doggoned too when I change something like the contents of the drawer, I swear I still go back to the same drawer again and again eventhough I have moved it and relabeled it. Funny how that works.

I have a newish stamp set and an envelope of Scene It dies that I have apparently tucked away into a very safe place—because now they are nowhere to be found. So frustrating!
I just spent the last 'bit' looking for some doilies to line a couple of small boxes with to give treats away. I was sure I knew where they were- they weren't, so I kept looking.
Funny the cool things I found along the way that I forgot I had... Anyway, I did find them and I still can't figure out why they were where I found them...
They are now in the place they ought to have been put in the first place.I feel so grownup...lol!!

And it made sense to you when you put them there, too. That's what's so danged frustrating. And when you find them again, it will all come back to you in a grand "AHA!!!" moment.
And then you will put them in the sensical place they should have been in, in the first place

Argh, I hate it when that happens! I just ordered and received a bunch of Distress Oxide ink pads, adhesive sheets for die cutting, alcohol inks, and stamp sets. Well, I opened the box in my living room and then took it all up to my craft room where I promptly misplaced one of the stamp sets and the pack of die cutting adhesive sheets! The problem is that I don't know if I lost them, or if they weren't in the box to begin with, and were shorted by the company. I've been looking now for two days and still haven't found them.
I found my roll of foam tape! I had to rearrange (again) when I discovered that the new arrangement wasn't working out. When I moved one of the bookcases, I discovered the tape on top of it, safe and sound (and out of sight - doh!). Still haven't found the MIA frame stamp, though...

Oh, thank goodness...now maybe I'll find my package of adhesive sheets for die cutting!!

On the other hand, I just found a stamp set that I had misplaced before I even inked it up. Looked for it all week...and then found it next to my alcohol markers. Don't remember putting it there at all...so is this the long slide into craft-supply amnesia?!! Eeek!

This is why so many of us that have been "collecting" for so long have indexes/catalogs/spreadsheets that list location as well as other pertinent info (theme, manufacturer, etc.). Of course, that requires putting things where you say you put them, lol! I guess I need to start cataloging my adhesives, too! (Just kidding - that's NOT going to happen...)
Yes Sue, that part about putting items where I'm supposed to put them is the sticking point, ha! If I did that to begin with, I would probably never lose anything...sigh..
I do have all my drawers and boxes/bins labeled but things have kind of migrated over time and it's not always accurate now. When I reorganize and haven't re-labeled yet, then all bets are off!
I don't have my stash/stamps/dies cataloged per se, because I know I wouldn't keep the list up to date. However, I have more recently added to the bin and drawer labeling by writing little post-it notes with the location of seldom used supplies, like my paper crimper. I only use that once or twice a year when I want to crimp my die cut cupcake liner or pie tin. I do the same thing now with other-than-craft-supplies, like our emergency tent.
One thing that would help is if I cleared off my craft area and put everything away more often as I create. The way it stands now, I have piles and stacks, and boxes full of items that I'm done with, in the process or using , or intending to use...all out in the craft room.
How about you? Do you clean as you go? Do you work on more than one project at a time, which means that you have supplies for multiple projects/themes out at the same time?
