Default MIX311 Everything old is new again 1-11-19

Title: Everything old is new again

Happy New Year

I was listening to this song

It really is true that old becomes new. When I got my gel-plate last year, I was so excited about my new toy and my mom told me how she had one when she was younger and about how she loved making monoprints. One thing I know about crafters is we tend to hold on to supplies for a long time even after the newness wears off. My challenge for you is to take something from your crafting stash that you have had for at least a year. Look at it and see if you could use it in a new way. For my example I used an old texture plate. Do you all remember those? Before I had my cuttlebug I had several texture plates that I used with a stylus to emboss on cardstock. How I used it in a new way was, I put paint and ink on my gel plate and pressed the texture plate down on the gel plate to add texture to my monoprint. Other ideas take an old stamp look at it in a new way. Can you layer it with other stamps to get a collage look? The sky is the limit with this challenge. Just make sure that you use more than one medium. I would also like you to tell us what you used old in a new way, so we can inspire eachother. Make sure you use the keyword: MIX311 so that your project shows up in the gallery.

Thanks for a great challenge, MariLynn. I actually use my texture plates quite often when I'm colouring backgrounds with pencils, to add texture. Like the old-fashioned pencil rubbing we used to do in school with coins, or on gravestones or memorials. I'll put my thinking cap on and see what I can come up with for this.

MIX311 Sea Scene with shimmer

Same card, not angled to the light: MIX311 Sea Scene

I used fantasy film which I stuck to painted card and then blasted with heat, so I needed two photos to show the effect.

I used old things and combined them like I had never done in the past. The ribbon I had to fold in half to fit. Thanks for the challenge.

MariLynn, this is a fun challenge! I still have many things I bought the first year I started stamping. Recently my daughter asked me if I had anything to embellish a photo album project for school. Oh, what a silly question! We found K&co flowers in the perfect color to make her album pages pop! They were bought back in 2011!

Here's my card which does NOT include K&Co. flowers!

Pure Gold

Thanks, MariLynn, for a fun challenge! I chose to use a painting stencil which I bought a few years before I learned about stamping. Other than some cross-stitch supplies, the stencil is the oldest craft item I own.

When I put this card in my gallery, I didn't know how to link it to a challenge. It belongs in this thread, I think. I cut up a piece of collage work for part of the image. (details in the gallery) I roller inked the background, stamped the greeting, die cut a decorative element and used a piercing tool.

I’m using an old early 2019 card kit that I never even opened to see if all the parts were there!  My card is my own design using card kit parts and some old patterned papers from my stash as well.  My two mediums are:  stamping ink (sentiment) and Copic markers (colored pearls).

Here is my card:  A Little Happy Birthday!
