Default Heartwarming Christmas Project with Kids

Wanted to share this heartwarming Christmas Project. My daughter has 9, yes, 9 children and they are homeschooled. She belongs to several homeschool groups and they get together often.

Last week a bunch of moms and kids, (and me) met up to make Christmas Cards to take to the Oklahoma County Jail to bring some Christmas cheer to the inmates. Oklahoma City is a pretty big town, but I was shocked to hear that the jail usually has between 1800 - 2000 inmates. Mostly minor offenses, traffic warrants, and people awaiting trial.

There were about 30 kids there, ranging from 16 to 5 years old. They really got into the spirit of things and made a lot of cards. I took lots of precut folded cardstock, Christmas stamps and ink and markers. For security, the cards could only be one layer, with no embellishments.

I hope maybe the children learned two lessons that day - Reach out with kindness to those less fortunate than you, and....don't break the law and end up in jail.

That such a great project! It’s so important to give back to the community, I expect a jail is less often thought of as a ‘worthy’ cause, but really, aren’t we called to reach out to the less fortunate? Good for your family to extend love to those who may rarely have a taste of it. Someone’s life may have been impacted more than you know
