Would the title "Proud Fan Club Member" override all special titles that a member might otherwise have, such as "SCS Gallery Moderator" or "Dirty Dozen Alumni"? Or would the Fan Club title appear in addition to those special titles?

I'm not sure about those special titles, but I know it overrides the SCS title. Wish you could have both. Boy, give me an inch and I want a foot! LOL Really, it is nice to have a choice, Thanks!

Hmm, unless 7 refreshes hasn't done the job, it appears not to work when you have other descriptions in your title.
Mind you, I could have sworn that I still had StazOn in mine till I looked and it wasn't there .

You have to click on "this link" that is in Post #1 of this thread, then scroll to the bottom the page, make the choice of keeping your current title or taking the Fan Club option.
Then click the update display option.
I had tried just clicking the update display in post #1 and it didn't work for me either! I am not computer savvy at all.

It did work for you, I can see it .
Judi's question was relating to whether it would override more specific titles indicating when people are challenge hostesses or moderators and so on, so that's what I was checking ;). Those are specifically assigned on a person-by-person basis, along with those who are eligible to choose their own title after x number of posts (can't remember if it's 20,000 or 40,000 since I never got round to coming up with a fun title!), so the question was really whether those specific titles would be overwritten by the new option.
Maybe I didn't give it long enough, but normally refreshing a page a few times (and clearing the browser cache) will mean that any updated changes to the page show up.
