Unmounting - trimming round stamps

I am unmounting all of my wood mounted stamps. There are not that many. But several of them are round. By that I mean the image is trimmed round. So when I unmount them and put them on cling and trim them, do I do what I have always been told to do and use lots of straight cuts (which would have to leave some tiny bits of the top of the cling exposed) or try to just trim along the edge of the rubber, which would mean trimming in a curve.

Everything I've seen regarding trimming stamps says cutting a curve with scissors is not a good thing to do because of possible undercutting.

This is probably a very dumb question. But I have to ask.

It's true, cutting round stamps on cling is awkward. I tried a few methods, and to be honest, the actual issue is , as you say, undercutting, rather than the method you use. If you can be sure to keep your blades vertical, or even angled so the top blade is angled into the rubber, if you follow me, rather than the bottom blade being angled in, which would give you an undercut, you will be fine. I hope I explained that clearly. ;) . You can do it with a scalpel/craft knife instead of scissors, which is my preferred method, again its the position of the blade that makes the difference. Do you know that the cutting of the sticky cling goes easier if you dust you blade/scissors with talc or cornstarch?

Thanks for that, Shaz. I do dust my cling with talc, but didn't know about dusting the blades. I have the Tim Holtz scissors, so they are supposed to resist stickiness, but it can't hurt to dust them as well.

Maybe I'll get a few scalpels, just to try. Others also seem to swear by them instead of scissors. What size would I want to get?
