Default Any wide format print users?

I am thinking about investing in an Epson wide format printer for photography and scrapbooking. They are expensive and take up a lot of room so I want to be sure before I buy. Anyone on here have or use one? Would love to hear your opinions.

I have an Epson wide format printer. I have to tell you I am NOT happy with it. When it works, its nice, but you could easily go broke buying the ink cartridges. It costs $120 to replace all the cartridges, and they only work for a short while. I was able to print out about 50 4x6 photos before I had to replace the cartridges. That's about $2.50 per picture, when figuring in the cost of paper. If you don't use the printer, the cartridges dry up quickly, and have to be replaced anyway. In my opinion, unless you have an unlimited amount of money to spend on the ink cartridges, it isn't worth it. The pictures do print out beautifully, and you can print really large. I wanted to make 12x12 pages and print them for duplicate books for my children. BUT -- you really need to print on photo paper to get a decent print quality. The 12x12 photo paper is extremely expensive. If you have an unlimited amount of money to spend on paper and ink, then go ahead and buy it. If you don't, then save your money and take your work to Kinko's or someplace that will print your work for you. In the short run, it will be less expensive.

Thanks to both of you. I was afraid of the cost of the cartridges. I have a standard Epson Stylus and though I thought those were expensive these look almost cost prohibitive. I will keep this one in mind in case I ever get to the point where 'money doesn't matter'. (But, I'm not holding my breath on that one!) Thanks again.

I have an Epson 1430 wide format printer along with an Epson Artison 810. My 1430 does an amazing job on my 12x12 pages and I only just replaced my ink cartridges. The "sample size" non-standard cartridges printed 40 12x12 pages and 84 8x8 pages. I am thrilled with the value so far. Yes, you pay a lot for photo paper. I use matte photo to get the best results - glossy smears. You can also print back and front on a matte photo paper. My biggest issue with 12x12 photo paper is that it is difficult to find locally.

My wide format 1430 does a much better job than my 810.
