hellooooooooo!!! i am really looking forward to getting together!!! i can bring fruit and dip for everyone.
i am finally nearing an end to the hoiday prep insanity! house is decorated, shopping is done, cards are mailed out, all of my holiday design team obligations/big projects are behind me...just a few more gifts left to make. at the moment i am making a purse for my mom and let me tell you it is HARD!!!!!!!!!! it has all sorts of pockets, magnetic closures and even a ZIPPER pocket! never sewn a zipper in my life but the ladies at our quilt shop convinced me to give it a whirl and i am glad i did. it turned out great but made me want to cry while figuring it out! i even called my mom and told her she may or MAY NOT get a gift!
if anyone coming to the party is a quilter or sewer and you have not visited webfabrics here in purcellville you MUST take time to drop in. they have EVERY fabric you could find all in one spot and the ladies there are fantastic!
i will do a class on making your own background papers - how about that??? quick and easy!
Sounds awesome, Marti -- be sure to post a pic!!!
I'm a quilter and sewer... and earlier this year I bought a Babylock embroidery machine too so have to get to using it more. I just am waiting to see what happens with the house sale/purchase because I packed away most of my fabric and stuff for now in storage til then.
I haven't been to webfabrics but have heard about them... you'll have to give me directions when we meet up so I can go after our meeting!!! Whoever else wants to go, maybe we can go together?
EXCHANGE:
In celebration of the holidays, let's do a crafting gift exchange (instead of a swap)!
To participate in it, bring a wrapped gift that has a handcrafted project you have made (stamping &/or papercrafting), plus a kit of instructions/supplies so the recipient can make at least one more of it also. You don't need to include the tools/basics that most of us have (no glue, tape, scissors, etc.) but include the paper, embellishments, or specialized supplies. Approx. kit supplies should be $10 total to keep things balanced and reasonable.
I'm posting to sub to this thread. I have recently moved to the Winchester, VA area and this group would be convenient to participate in. I have just this week started unpacking my craft things so I'm no way going to be ready for the December gathering, but I may try for Jan or Feb, if that's ok.
Hi Chris --
Well, if you find you can throw together a quick item and snack and come to the Dec. 18th meeting, you are more then welcome to join us! If not, hope to see you in the future ones.
I presently live about 15 min north of Winchester, in Bunker Hill, WV. Where did you move from?
Thanks Susan. I will see how things go this week. It's one thing getting it all unpacked, it's another stirring up the creativity enough to throw something nice together.
We moved from Indiana. My husband got a job out here. I'd planned to leave my stuff all packed until we finish our basement and my craft space, but I'm finding I miss it too much so I decided to jump back into it.
Is there a stamp/scrap store in our area? I've found JoAnns and Michaels in Winchester, but nothing specialty. I'm down in Stephens City so even if there's something in Front Royal or south a bit it's fine. Just wondering.
Thanks again for the warm welcome. I'll see what I can do for the 18th. If nothing else, maybe I'll just come say hello and meet the group, bring some of my past work samples to share along with a snack?
We have no family and only one other couple we are really close with so I'm really wanting to get to know some people who share my craft interest.
Hi Chris --
Well, the good news is yes, you've found our newly formed group from out this way. We have a few in this group that are from that area too... Annette (AMTUTTON) and Allison (Momof2girls) on here both live in Stephens City in fact. Chris Nelson on here is moving out to that area somewhere too I think, looking for a place now. I live just north of there as you go up 81 into WV, but am buying a house a little farther north in WV, near Falling Waters and the Maryland border off 81.
The bad news is that we don't have a lot of other craft or stamping stores around. There is an Art Supply store in Winchester, on the same street at Michaels, a bit north and on the West side of the road there -- in the same plaza as Staples I think. Little shop, but she does carry some stamping supplies, a nice selection of stamps and some unique papers. There is Angela's Happy Stamper in Reston, VA (just off the green belt 267 if you go into DC via that) where we had our last meeting, and she has a nice stock of items there. There is a great stamp store in Maryland called The Queens Ink if you ever go towards Baltimore too. I'm signed up with CTMH and know some SU dealers here if you are looking for that. There is also a Michaels in Martinsburg, WV now, and several others such as Reston and south of you in Harrisonburg I think. And Joanns in Frederick, MD is a superstore, as opposed to that one in Winchester which is small.
Welcome to the area though, and look forward to meeting you. You might want to check with Annette even if she is coming up for Dec. 18th (she signed up) and maybe carpool even!
Awesome...I definitely would like to connect with the Stephens City gals..its a small area so theres a good chance they either live in my neighborhood or very close to it.
Im so excited! Thanks for the referrals on the places. Where I lived in indiana we didnt even have michaels and our joann was worse than the winchester one...
When I was little we lived in Bunker Hill, Indiana ironically, so I understand. Not much there then, just a bowling alley and a gas station and trailer park!
Hi there!
I think I'm going to regroup for January rather than come Saturday. We're having our friends over for dinner and a little holiday celebration saturday evening. The builder is coming to do some repairs this week so I'm afraid of what cleaning I may have to do.
Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to getting involved! Have a great Holiday!
Hello Chris!! My fellow Stephens City resident! I would love to meet you, maybe at the Martin's coffee shop for tea or coffee. I shop there often since it is just up the road from where I live. I will PM you with my phone number, feel free to give me a call sometime.
By the way, there is a wonderful Hobby Lobby store in Chambersburg, about 1 hour away as well. They have great stamping supplies including paper, stamps, and punches.
ANNETTE -- I think I have your number still from meeting up before, but I'll PM you too. Happy to carpool if you want, just need to figure out where to meet. I'll drive happily! Maybe we could meet up in Berryville where 340 & 70 meet? I wonder if there is a place to leave a car there?
I'm excited about this Saturday! I made my exchange gift yesterday, hope the recipient likes it. I need to pick up a couple of items at Michaels before then to go in the kit with it, but otherwise am ready! If I can find a few supplies I need, I'll also do a craft project there at the meeting too.
I can't decide on what to bring to eat... sounds like this cold spell is going to continue so I am thinking something warm!
Susan,
I think just the basics - tape runner/glue, 1/4 inch hole punch (optional), scissors (optional). We can share most of the supplies, but it would be good to have extra scissors. This is a really simple project but one I think everyone will enjoy making.

Hello again Annette, I LOVE that Martins and the coffee shop. And I'd enjoy Hobby Lobby as well. I love my COPICS!
Oh... Did anyone mention the Offray Ribbon Outlet to you? In Hagerstown? That would be a good trip... to the Hobby Lobby, then to the Ribbon Outlet...
I'm only going to live about 20 min from there when we move.

Hi ladies - I survived the snow yesterday, roads are icy here and they are calling for more snow starting tomorrow afternoon. I will keep an eye on weather reports and check back with you all later.
Ellen
Well, Terrie and Carol are not going to be able to make it, keep Carol in prayers as she is not feeling well.
I know Annette has a conflict and may have to come late.
Our roads are pretty icy here, haven't even been able to get out of my development yet today and they cancelled schools here. I'm wondering if tomorrow would be better postponed/cancelled for now, and we hold our gift exchange in January as an after Christmas exchange and do the project then too?
I hate to cancel, but I am not sure how our roads will be here yet (devleopment is the last to be cleared) and don't want anyone else to risk safety to get there either.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? CHRIS, ELLEN, AND MARTI???
MARTI - If we cancel, can you call the library to cancel and ask for the 1/29 date stead?

Susan - I think we should cancel due to the uncertainty of the weather. It is a 3 hour drive for me and I do not want to be driving home in a storm. I think a January gift exchange is a good idea. Stay warm and safe everyone and have a Merry Christmas!
Ellen
Thanks, Ellen. I would agree with that and wouldn't want you to drive in unsafe conditions... and my couch is not that comfy though you'd be welcome.
I'm sending Chris Nelson and Marti emails too hoping they'll check in and let us know too.
I agree the weather has made this a bit difficult. We probably should cancel, especially since you cannot get out Susan. It is a little rough here too. I will keep checking just to be sure.
LADIES : LOOKING LIKE WE'LL CANCEL THE MEETING TOMORROW AND HOLD OFF OUR EXCHANGE AND CELEBRATION TIL JANUARY. I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY HERE....
WAH!!! but yes i think it's best as i want as many of us to get together as possible - the more the merrier KWIM? i can call the library BUT 1/29 is right smack in the middle of CHA so suzanne and i will definitely not be there. anyway we could do it the weekend before or after?
I'm okay with moving it a week earlier or two right now. I know work is talking of sending me on a trip but haven't locked things in yet so I would hope it isn't in January!
Whatever is available with the library, and of course would love to have you and Suzanne there too!
My gift is ready and waiting so at least I'll have it done!!!
The sun is melting the snowy mess here and looks like I may be able to get out today via the backroads (longer, windier, but not as steep), just hoping it doesn't all freeze up to ice overnight again!
