I have a blog, and would occasionally post about my Playroom's updates. Then I realized, why not just create my own Pinterest Board that I can post pictures and descriptions? So I did.

Default Craft room & loft

Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to share their ideas with all of us! I have actually just started a series today on my blog of my craft loft and personal craft room, I uploaded the first photo of what I hope will be my final craft loft space. lol... Going forward I will add more photos of specific storage ideas for diecuts, embossing folders, etc.. as well as my actual craft room at Creatingforgrace. Here is the loft:

December 2014 we bought a house that has a finished building in the backyard. I was going to make it my studio but then had misgivings due to how much rain we get and there's no heat in the studio other than the electric fireplace we put in there.

Our bedroom is 20 x 30. I was able to talk my husband into allowing me to set up my craft area in one of the corners in there instead. It was rather unsightly until recently.

I'm not sure where you are, but a propane wall heater is an option. Or if you have electricity to the building, we bought a wall heater/ ac unit for my studio. Ran about $700 through our local home improvement store. Is very energy efficient. maybe something to work towards.

In the mean time, I hope you'll share your space with us. We love to window peek but prefer an invitation to come on in ;-)

I'm still working on my space. My husband and I have dubbed it 'the clown car'. Things just keep coming. LOL

I did come to a conclusion yesterday that one of the reasons I've not finished yet (almost a year in the process) is that my OCD will not allow me to just put stuff anywhere. If the place I want something to go isn't ready, I can't just shove it out of the way.

that said, I have 3 weeks until the room has to be finished. Three reasons:
1: One of the contractors who helped build it is coming and I'd like him to see it finished
2: Said contractor is coming to do repair work in our dining room... where I still have stuff that needs to go in the room
3: Said contractor is going to need a place to sleep (he's coming from 4 hours away) and right now I can barely see the sofa sleeper under the stacks. LOL

I appreciate the suggestions. We have talked about making the building into a cabana as it is so close to our firepit.

it's impossible to keep a craft space small. there's too many supplies we NEED.

I believe an artist's size of space is dependent upon numerous factors such as:
1) goals
2) available space
3) crafting frequency
4) project duration
5) necessary supplies
For myself, I craft every so often and we don't have company over that often so when I need to spread out, I use our diningroom table. I have a few craft stores within relative proximity should I need something. For the most part, I keep the basics on hand such as glue, dry adhesive, double back foam, solid color cs and dp.

Then again, the more you craft, the more space and supplies are required. Particularly when you're running a business such as is visible with the room pic that was just shared with us.

Nothing is impossible! If you love cards you make it work. If you have a lot of space you just spread to fill it. Many gals work off their dining room table. One thing you become very good at is managing your stuff. I always thought it was about paper and making cards when I very soon found out it was about space management. Some of the more experienced card makers just laughed - one of those Augh-ha moments. Never give up, you will find the right balance.

Gail makes some excellent points which reminded me of my mentor who has been stamping since 79. Her and her husband live in a one room apartment. Liz has a secretarial style of desk in their livingroom where she makes the most beautiful of cards. She knows how to manage her space as Gail has so adequately addressed. As for me, I'm still learning how to manage my space.

I just meant that we need a certain amount of space to work with. For example I also scrapbook so I need a desk that is big enough to have an open scrapbook, the pas I'm working on and the supplies I'm using.

Don't worry Jenny, as long as you are having fun! Let's face it that's what this craft is all about.

just stopping in to catch up.
We wound up not having the contractor in. The company my hubby was working for, sold. leaving him without a job so the repair work went on hold. Yay me! LOL I am making progress little by little. I'll try to pop in later this week with the before pics. Can't remember if their on my phone or my camera.

the after pics are going to be awhile ;-)

But... and here's the big thing.. I finally have a space to at least work on cards!

Has anyone watched Laura Bassen's video of her craft space? You'd think it would be a gorgeous organized room, right? Well, it's really pretty, but not a room, unless something has changed since her 2013 video.

https://m.
She's a kick! She's so talented (was a graphic designer and it shows), and has this self-deprecating sense of humor. I've taken an on-line card class with her, Jennifer McGuire and a couple of other ace card makers, and am going to take another class of hers on Craftsy soon. Her blog, which I'd guess most know well:

Space management is my bane! I moved from a house with a 9x25 sq ft craft room to a small 1,200 sq ft 2 bed condo. Now my craft room is also my master bedroom. It is such a challenge to keep it tidy...most days I fail!

My heart goes out to you!

I, too, had a dedicated craft room, then a craft studio and most currently a craft nook which just recently morphed between our bedroom and our laundry room.

I've also worked it from the other end. I have drastically downsized. There is such a freedom resulting from this! I'm much better focused.

Precut card blanks, envelopes, and precut coloured card stock, all supposed to help me grab and go

Hey jukie! I have the same cart but Girl, I am tellin' ya I don't have anywhere near the amount of cardstock precut - lol. I reckon I need to get back to cutting. We don't have any really trustworthy places in my area. Our Office Depot/Max/FedEx places don't have a stellar reputation for cutting straight. Just love how organized you seem to be. Thanks for sharing.

Love your airy space. Sadly, I have way too much stuff - and I use it all. I've purged and purged.

I feel your pain about "STUFF". I too have way too much, so I'm trying to shop my stash for holiday cards. Work with what I have. Some of the creative teams give a theme for a card and then you work with what you have. Well thats great for one card but holiday cards are in larger quanties and its quick to use stuff up. I'm trying to break the problem of being rushed at the last minute. So I start now with Fall and Christmas and really do enjoy the process more. I hate the clean up process so I've been having a buddy over for a few hours during the day to play and I'm keeping a better look to my room.

This is my craft room - my little piece of heaven! I posted these maybe 6 months ago in a different thread so I'm sorry if you've seen these pics before! All the furniture is a mix-match of things I've been given over the years. Thankfully I haven't had to buy any of that. I'd love if all of it could match, but I've made the best with what I've got. I did buy the 2 clip it up systems to hang my clear stamps and the racks above my desk for the ink pads and embellishments. If you look at the picture of my closet, you will see that it needs much attention!!! That's where I store my scrap-booking supplies which I don't use much at the moment vs. my card making supplies which are all out in the room. So that's my space!

Thank you Yes it is always so neat. It's my creativity downfall. I've written about it a few times in posts - wanting to be able to make a big mess and enjoy it - see glitter on the floor and revel in how pretty it is instead of immediately sweep it up. But for some reason my craft room has to be immaculate in order for me to create. Even as I make cards - I have to put things away as soon as I am done using them. But it makes no sense, the rest of my house is a mess on a regular basis. Seriously a mess. I have no idea why this is! BJEANS - What are color blocks/groupings? I'm not sure what that is referencing?
