I am on a search for a good paper trimmer. I have had the SU
Table Top (by Tonic) cutter for years and have loved it. I have recently had more and more trouble getting a straight cut and have become so frustrated with the wonky cuts. I have found lots of great trimmer/cutter suggestions from other stampers here in the forums and noticed several people are using the Genesis. Please give your feedback if you have this cutter and tell whether you have the 16" or 12" and if you feel the light is a must for this cutter. I am a card maker only and don't work with large paper so I am more interested in the smaller unit.

I have the 16" with edgelight. I LOVE it!! One of the best investments that I have ever made for my scrapping/stamping. Worth every penny and that's a lot of pennies, I know.
I bought the 16" because I am both a stamper and a scrapper. I find the edge light to be invaluable when doing very precise trimming as it shows me exactly where the cut will be relative to what I'm cutting. However, I will say that the light does not show through heavy, dark cardstock very well.
It's a big investment, but I haven't regretted it for a single second. Good luck.

I have the 16" with the edgelight. It is excellent but way too big for my needs, as I pretty much only make cards. I think the edgelight is worth it as you really can see where you are cutting with most colors of cardstock.

One thing, however. It really only cuts one piece at a time. Maybe 2 if it is feeling frisky. So if you need a trimmer to cut multiple pieces of cardstock at a time, this isn't the one.

I have the 12" because I do not scrapbook; the edge light is not available on the 12" at all. I love the cutter and I am so glad I bought it; I had to wait 3 1/2 years!! but it was worth it. If the edge light is important you might be able to buy a strip light (like the ones people mount under their kitchen cabinets) and mount it to you work surface so that it will shine up on the edge of your paper; I have thought about doing that but it hasn't been an issue as I thought it might be.

It came when I was on a stamping hiatus. I just lost my mojo for a while, and I am just now getting it back. I am in the process of remodeling my craft room and then I will be happily cutting away!
Holy Cow, I never knew there was a trimmer that cost so much! I had researched the Fiskars Rock, Paper trimmer, and thought that $125.00 was too much. I am sorry, but I can't justify spending that much on a trimmer that doesn't even look portable! I bought a guillione trimmer with scoring blade from Staples Office Supply for $25.00 (on sale) and then use my orange Fiskars trimmer (first one I got when I started scrapping) for crops and stuff. Between the two, I am one happy girl, and only spent 35.00 at the most. I hope you
find a trimmer you will like, but I can't ever justify that much for a trimmer.
i have the 12 inch and wish i had the larger one.i am needing a new blade for mine but that is after owning it for 12 years.i have had only one problem and it was kids that did that

Portability is not an issue for me as I like to play at home, plus I do still have a smaller cutter if I do want to go somewhere.
What is important to me is have very precise straight cuts, which this cutter does extremely well! (while I haven't used it to make any projects yet, I did cut some paper and cardstock just to test it out).
I have the 16 inch with the light. I like the bigger size although I typically just deal with 12 x 12 sheets. The light is not a must have because it only works well with thinner paper (thin enough for the light to create a shadow). I still had to have it though!
I was interested in precise cuts. This cutter does the job.
Kittie, I think the Genesis trimmer is fabulous! Have had my 16" with edgelight for a little over a year and have not regretted a single second of it. It cuts like nothing else I have ever seen and you can cut the teeny tiiny slivers with ease. Cuts just one sheet at a time but does it like magic. Definitly get the edgelight! I use that a lot, even in the daytime and always at night. It's not readily portable but have the Tonic which is. Bonnie gives the best customer service around. Highly recommend this product and company. Go for it !!
I have the 16" with the edgelight and the paper guide bar. As I stated in a couple of other threads, my search for the perfect paper trimmer was over when I rec'd the Genesis. I like the larger size (portability is not an issue with me); love the edgelight - works great for cardmaking, photos, etc; and the guide bar is wonderful for making multiple same-size cuts, such as cutting 8 1/2" X 11" in half for A2 cards.
If precision is important to you, you can't go wrong with this trimmer!

I have the 16" with edgelight and I can't say enough great things about this trimmer! I asked for advice on which size to buy on a lot of mb's before going with the 16". The general opinion was--if you have the room for the bigger size go for it. The edgelight alone is worth it! I use it every time I cut now. It's especially perfect for trimming papers with stripes or patterns and I'm a scrapbooker as well so trimming/cropping photos is SO nice!
If you have the space and the extra $100, go for the 16" with edgelight. It's the best investment in this hobby I've ever made.
Kittie another Genesis lover here. I too have the 16" with edgelight and think that is a must have that you might regret if not purchasing. Let`s face it...it is not cheap either way you go but I figured adding the edgelight wasn`t going to be the thing to save on. I have made many cuts just eyeballing using the light. Good luck! Oh... and to those who say how much money it is...I bet I spent near that much buying cutters and blades only to be disappointed!
I have the 16 inch with the edge-light and I love it! I also bought the paper guide bar. I have no regrets whatsoever buying this trimmer. The cuts are perfectly straight and clean. It is well worth the price IMO.
Several people have mentioned being on a waiting list.
Is this still the case when you order one? Just curious.
There is no longer a waiting list. Bonnie (Queen of Tools) who posted above is now the owner. She bought the company some time ago, increased production, and caught up on orders shortly thereafter.

So, does Bonnie ever run a sale on the Genesis? I'm almost sold. I'm needing to purchase a third Tonic--which isn't horrible as much paper as I cut., but I'm considering a Genesis. I pulled out my old Carl to try to do some bulk cutting, and it is horrid--getting pitched ASAP. I'm tempted by the Genesis, but I can wait, if there are ever seasonal sales. Any of you ladies have regrets yet, or is it still the best thing ever? Thanks for any input!
I've never seen a sale. But even as expensive as they are, I love mine and think it's worth every penny. But you can't do bulk cutting with it. One sheet of SU or PTI cardstock is all you can do at one time. Bonnie says it's made for precision.
98% of the time I'm cutting one sheet at a time anyway. I just happened to have some class prep to do tonight. Since my old Carl was dog-legging it, I'm cutting one sheet at a time tonight too. ;-) Thank you for responding, Deb! I saw a lady selling one in a forum, but it's the 12". All I have now is a 12" anyway, so maybe that would work.
Hmmm. . . If you are primarily a card maker, would you really use the 16" aspect, or would a 12" work just as well? I realize that the 12" does not have a lit edge option.
My Genesis is 20+ years old. I love it!! It still cuts GREAT and I have cut alot with it. The only thing I would ever need to replace is the cutting blade but it still cuts great. I can cut 2-3 sheets of card stock, but not anymore sheets at one time. I love it!! Mine is a 12" and it is big enough for what I use it for.
Thank you for your help! I ordered the 16" without edgelight yesterday--last day of Bonnie's birthday sale. (Happy Belated Birthday to Bonnie. :-}) I can always add the edgelight if need it later. Thanks again!
