Default Embossing folder technique?

Could anyone tell me how I can emboss a card front and at the same time, leave a shape plain in the middle for example an oval. I have seen cards done this way and no matter what I do, I still get embossing all over. I cut out an oval of cardboard and used the reverse mask of that over the outside of the folder but that didn't work!! Would appreciate any help! TIA!

I know this technique is listed here a million times but my recollection is that you cut out a shape first out of thin cardboard (like a cereal box) place it on the card where you want the plain area to be, and then emboss. The shape will protect the paper from getting embossed. I hope that helps.

For a video explanation search online at: youtube double embossing cuttlebug. There is an easy to follow video as well as many other sites with instructions.

I have a couple of cards on my gallery with that de-embossing technique. The cardboard piece goes inside of the folder on top of the cardstock. A store in my area sells a set of pieces of cardboard already die cut called "Chippies" but I made my own using the back sheet of cardboard from a dp pack. You do adjust the plates you use when embossing - kind of trial and error to get the right pressure to emboss.

Thank you so much everyone for your help. Much appreciated! I will go check out the video and then use the layering you suggest.

Default thanks for asking this

I was wondering the same thing; tried some ideas on my own (without adjusting the plate) and got the reverse affect! Go figure! A deeper impression!

Thanks for all the help!

definitely check out the video. it's great...you use a wooden frame that you put over the folder and it blocks out the oval. very easy.

Hi Jean,

Here's some instructions at the Cuttlebug Spot blog.

Here is another variation on a similar theme which looks AWESOME at Ikki's Cuttlebug Cupboard.
