We're now signing up players for Round 1, 2010 which begins on February 1. The last day to sign up for Round 1 is January 23!! No exceptions!
Let us begin by answering some Frequently Asked Questions about our Usergroup to get you familiar with us.
Q: WHO/WHAT ARE DIVINE SECRET SIBLINGS?
Divine Secret Siblings is a usergroup here on SCS. We are a group of stampers (demos and non-demos, SU! and many other brands, Non-Vendor Specific) who send cards and gifts to each other for a 4 month period. At the end of the 4th month, we reveal to our secret sibling who we are. Big Secret Siblings are the senders. Little Secret Siblings are the receivers. You will be both a big and little ss.
Q: When and How will I receive my Secret Sibling Information?
You will receive your secret sibling name and information as soon as we swap names; this is generally the week before the new round begins. The information for your little sibling will be sent to you by one of our Divine Coordinators through your SCS "Private Message."
Q: Does the Email information needed below include my Anonymous Email?
No. We just need the email that you will use regularly. The secret email is just for your own use to be able to communicate with your little SS and not give away who you are. The email address we need is one that we can contact you at if there is an issue, and one that your big SS can use to communicate with you. Although, it is perfectly ok to use your secret email as BOTH if you wish! See Annymous Email info below.
Q: DOES THIS GUARANTEE ME A NEW BEST FRIEND?
Not necessarily. Some of our members love the program as a way to swap ideas and see a style of stamping that is not their own but may be a bit more reserved to share their personal selves. Some of us love to make a new friend right away, and some of us just enjoy a temporary penpal of sorts. Each round is a completely different experience, and we hope you get something out of each round you spend with us!
Q: What Groups are Available to Choose from?
We have 2 groups from which to choose, listed below in order of requirements. New sign ups before the round begins can choose any group. We don't limit the number of participants. Available groups:
Dynamic Duos: 2+ cards each month and a total of $15 in gifts over 4 months.
Ultimate Unos: 1+ card each month and a total of $10 in gifts over 4 months.
The cards may be written in or blank. If you choose to send a blank card for your Little Sis/Bro to re-use, please include a little handwritten note on a piece of paper.
Any Other Questions, Please ask!
ARE YOU READY TO JOIN?
Please follow these Instructions to join>>
1.PLEASE PM the INFO BELOW to Christine P.
Group choice (Duos or Unos)
Are you willing to send out of your country?
What country do you live in?
Regular (not secret) Email Address (you'll exchange mailing addresses with your big/little sisters through email)
Real Name (first and last)
2. Join our UserGroup - The Divine Secret Siblings
Go to your Private Message Inbox by clicking the envelope at the top of your screen, then click "Group Memberships" (in the left column twards the bottom), then choose to join group for Divine Secret Siblings. You will be approved after we receive your info, and you will have full access to our special forum. This will give you access to our special forum where you can read up on our Rules, get lots of information, chat, post your preferences and info for your SS to read, and post thank yous.
3. Set up an anonymous email account
When you receive the information with who you are sending to we ask you to set up a SECRET/Anonymous email with a free email provider (hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc...). This is for obtaining your little sibling's mailing information and discussing your preferences for small gifts each month or one large gift at the end of the round (for group 1 only). This is also useful when you have a card or package going out a bit late and want to let your little ss know. We have a thread in our forum which explains how to set a secret email account up. You also may choose to continue an on-going communication with your little sis during the round.
4. Send the required amount of cards and gifts for the group you have chosen to join. Don't forget to reveal your identity to your little ss at the end!
5. Post Thank You's for each card/gift received in our specially designated forum. This is so very important and has been made a mandatory requirement!
I'm a little confused - if we participated last session do we need to sign up again? I did pm our mod from last session that yes I do want to participate but upgrade to a duo - do I need to do anything else?
this looks like fun -- i had run across this at some point a few months ago, but was pretty busy. my calender just opened up - i was laid off last week (after 15 years), and i'm looking for stuff to fill some time before i go back to school to do my master's work - this looks like just the ticket -
a few questions --
so you get paired up with someone - so it's person "A" and "B" together, and "C" and "D" together - it's not "A and "B" together but "A" sends to "C" and "B" sends to "G" right -- does that even make sense????
and what kind of gifts do we send?
sorry for the questions - just want to be sure i understand

Nope! You're good to go. Your previous round coordinator will give me all of your information before the next round starts.

Good questions!
Here is how I do the pairings...
A gives to B
B gives to C
C gives to D
D gives to E
E gives to F
F gives to G
G gives to A
I usually keep 7-10 in one "group" then begin again since we coordinate a group of about 25.
If you are A then you send to B, but B doesn't send back to you. B is your "Little Sibling," and in the case above, G is your "Big Sibling."
The gifts can be anything handstamped, store/vendor bought, stamping or non-stamping related. Your choice.

great! thanks so much! that makes sense! i'll send the PM and set up an anonym. account - anyone have any tips on setting up the account? how does a name not pop up when you send an email. maybe i'd answer my own question if i went to sign up --hehe.

If you sign up to send out of the country, will the person sending to you be from out of the country? Thanks, Chrisitne
It is a 50/50 chance. We have non-US players in the same group with US players who are willing to send out of their country. It just depends on how the pairing up goes. If you have a specific request, ie "want a non-US big sister" or don't want, then be sure to let me know when you sign up.

I'd love to join but have one concern. Living in Australia, craft items cost a lot more here - sometimes 2 or 3 times the cost in the US. How can I ensure I'm being fair, not miserly in the gifts I send to my Little SS... particularly as I would need to keep to smaller things to avoid our atrocious postage costs?

I also live in country Australia and have participated in DSS all this year. I send lightweight stuff like brads, ribbon and small papers. You can also send images of stamps if the stamp set is too heavy to send, clear stamp sets are a good idea. To save on money handmade items are also very popular. keep your parcels under 500gms and the postage isnt too bad. A card costs either $1.50 or $2.10 depending how bulky it is. Hope that helps.

Thanks Carole, that helps a lot and has decided me in favour of joining - should be fun.

Just sent in my PM for my first round ever!....Am looking forward to it..going to start on a box now...
thanks for hosting!
This will be my first round too! I'm very excited but haven't started a box yet because I'm trying to make cards (I never have a stash and am trying to change that in 2010). Needed a break and think it's gonna be bedtime soon (but I have to clean up first because I use the dining room table).
This sounds like fun. I am a bit confused....if you send one or two + cards a month and at the end you send a $10 or $15 gift, what does it mean "I am starting on my box now?" I would like to be sure that I fully understand so that if I commit, then I am following all of the rules. Thanks!
Hi, I didn't mean to get you confused....I've never been in this group before but in previous groups the way they worked is that we would send a couple cards and the *gifts* worth in this case $15.00....
so what I meant by starting my box is when I make something or see something I think my person would like I will put in that box to be sent when I want it to be....
this helps ME instead of running around trying to find things or come up with things, I just make things and buy things over the course of the time of the group..
Hope that helps....sorry for the confusion....lol..just my way of doing it...some people may send just one item valued at $15.00....and I may also...just depends on what I find to suit the person..kwim?
I have been involved in DSS for several rounds and I do have to admit...I like getting those little things. My one Big Sis sent me altered items that were wonderful and she also sent me Studio G stamps, ect. I loved receiving those little gifts throughout the round. So when you said you were starting on your box...I know your Little Sis will love it!

Welcome!
PM stands for Private Messaging. It is a way to send a message to one or more people that can only be seen by those folks. Think of it as email.
The easiest way to PM a specific person is to click on the person's username (so go up to the first post and click on "Christine P" that is in the grey area), and select "Send private message to Christine P" from the drop-down menu.
The other ways you can get to PMs - there is a little envelope at the top/right of each page in SCS. Clicking that envelope will take you to your PM box. Hint: the envelope will be green if you have any new PMs.
Also, if you click on your name (just to the left of the envelope) you will go to the control panel. In the control panel there is a link to PMs as well (down the list on the left).
