Default TLC246 Paper Towel Flowers {11/9/09}

In the garden you may be hard pressed to find flowers this time of year. Many of the beautiful blooms of spring and summer are gone, replaced with the flowers of fall...you know - those flowers we call LEAVES. HA! While I know the seasons have to change, that still doesn't keep me from longing for the colors of spring in the awesome vibrant colors of spring. With today's technique I'll show you a fun and easy way to create the blossoms of spring. Are you ready?

I found this tutorial by another paper crafter by the name of Lyn who found a way to make fun and funky flowers using a few supplies that we all have around the house.

Let's gather our supplies:
Paper Towels
Glimmer Mist or similar product OR Reinkers in a mini-mister. You won't have the shimmer of Glimmer Mist if you only use water and re-inkers, but the color will be just as wonderful. If you have all the ingredients, HERE is a link to a recipe for your own home-made Glimmer Mist.

Circle Template (either from a punch, or a traced circle measuring about 2-3/4" - or larger, depending on the size of flower you want to make

1. Lay your paper towel onto wax paper or a craft sheet to protect your work surface. Spritz the color onto the paper towel, not worrying about total saturation. The variation of saturation adds to the visual effect. Let dry.
2. Punch or trace your circles (at least four per flower) onto your paper towels and proceed to hand tear around the template. Ragged edges only add to the interest of the flower.
3. Adhere your layers (each layer hand torn just a smidgen smaller than the last) using either a glue dot or foam dimensional to layer.
4. Complete your flower with a center - a button, a crystal, large brad, chipboard circle...your choice.

Complete your card as desired.

I can't wait to see all the lovely variations you all come up with. Some other ideas would be to brush on some Pearl Ex, add glitter to the edges, add marker lines on the inside of your flower to add dimension...really let your creativity flow.

To view the gallery of paper towel flowers, CLICK HERE.

Don't forget to add the keyword TLC246 (no spaces) to your project when you upload so we can all enjoy the bountiful garden of flowers.

Hint for next week: You will need either Nestabilities or a Coluzzel (any shape).

Just finished the housework - had to wait in the kitchen till the floor polish dried. So I am al ready to give this a go - be just re-inkers for me.
Thanks, Lynn - different ways of making flowers are always good!

Well, this ought to be interesting. I have printed paper towels. Looks like a really fun technique. I love how fuzzy your flower looks. Thanks, Lynn.

Default Here is my card for this week's challenge

Thanks Lynn and Lyn for the fun challenge. I don't know that I am a master, but I kind of love my primitive style.

Bonjour Maxie

Thanks for looking and enjoy.

Thanks for the fun technique this week Lynn. I remember doing something similar to these flowers when I did my student teaching 20 years ago. I told the students we were going to be making flowers with expensive exported handmade paper when they saw my sample. They all laughed when the saw that it was made from paper towels.

I decided to tweak my flowers a little bit by quilling them instead of layering them.

That's a good question. I've never made my own before. Anyone out there know?

I would think that a little, shake, give it a try, and if it's not shimmery enough, add more. Now THAT'S scientific, isn't it?
