Paulabella's Grass Tutorial
Ok stamp artists, here is a little how too that I put together for Stamping Bella's forum and it is one of the top questiones asked on my blog. I can use several combos of greens, sometimes two colors, sometimes three. The basic idea is to have a lighter green and a darker green. For this example I used Prismacolor Olive Green {911} & Prismacolor Marine Green {988}.
To begin I layed down a nice heavy, solid chunk of Olive Green. Don't make it too large because you will blend out with your stump and you can spread the green then.

After you have blended out the Olive Green, then you want to lay your second color and keep it closer to the feet. I used Marine Green and then blended it out...but do not blend it out to the edge of the first green, you want to see the color layers. Lighten your touch when you add your second/third layers of green.

When it comes to adding the grass blades, I always start at the bottom and pull up and out. Try and use as sharp as pencil as you can, but not so sharp that when you press down the tip breaks off. I keep my hand moving and get the blades in all directions...left, right, straight. I add some longer blades and some shorter blades...pressing down when I start to fan my blade out and lightening up as the blades gets to its tip. Here is a picture of the first layer of grass blades, using Olive Green.

I get a good base of grass blades with my first color. My second/third color after this, is where the depth comes in.

Here is a picture of the grass without the blended layer. The first picture is with just grass blades in Olive Green, the second picture is with the Marine Green added.
The three blade clusters of grass {on the right side of both photos} is what I try and get the students in my class not to do. I draw this grass out on the whiteboard and tell everyone...no tumbleweeds! LOL ...unless we are doing a western theme card! Practice practice, practice!

I got to see this firsthand from the master, but I still need to practice, practice, practice, cause I'm a tumbleweeder for sure!!! I'm ending up with very long blades that look like they need a lawnmower!! Gotta lighten the touch a lot sooner!! Thanks for this awesome resource Paula.

Thanks for the awesome tutorial Paula! I adore your grass (wow, that doesn't seem right typing that or saying that now does it? lol) ... but you know what I mean! Hehe! Anyway, love the step by step pictures with directions since I'm a very visual learner! Off to practice!
