**Viva la Verve! October Week 1 {10/2/09}***
Welcome to October divas! I can't believe it but we're on our 10th month of these VLV challenges! You ladies are stretching yourselves and your creativity every week and I love to see you all grow!
I have a few super fun challenges lined up for this month, so it should be fun
***For VLV Newbies, here are the deets! Every Friday I will post a new sketch with a {twist}. The {twist} is an extra requirement for your sketch card! Could be an inspiration challenge, a color challenge, a limited supplies challenge, who knows! There is no solid deadline for each sketch, but they DO need to be uploaded to the VLV Gallery by the last week of the month! For October, there will be four sketches and all four sketches must be uploaded by MIDNIGHT CST on 29 October! I will announce the winner on 30 October! Verve stamps are NOT required to play with us but if you have them, please use them, we don't want them getting lonely! What's up for grabs? Well, Verve's ENTIRE next release of stamps!!! So are you ready to play?***
This weeks {twist} is a twist of shabby! Shabby seems to be very "in" lately and I'm loving all the dainty, delicate shabby chic art I've been seeing! So I thought I'd bring the challenge to you If shabby scares you, don't let it! All you need is a little sponging, edge roughing, sewing, light, delicate colors, stuff like that! Google Shabby Chic (yes, I swear by google!) and be inspired. If you find a picture that inspires your card, link it up so we can all see it! Feel free to use a different shape in the sketch than the circles. Use squares, rectangles, a nestability label die, whatever!
Keywords this week are Verve (if you're using Verve stamps) and VLVOct01

Okay....Shabby Chic and I have met, have played together and have agreed to not be friends LOL This is so not me, but it was a good challenge and I have now learned what "shabby chic" is (what can I say, I've never been in the trendy crowd!). This is a poor example, I'm sure, but it's done!!! Thanks for the challenge, Amber....look forward to seeing better examples and may even get the courage up to try this again...well, maybe not
Shabby What??

I love this trendy look on cards, but haven't yet mastered it...glad for the challenge to try - thanks, Amber! I also realized I don't own any Christmas Verve stamps. I can only hope there will be something for Christmas in the October release that I found out I won!

I guess it would help if I put a link to my card: OH SHABBY CHIC CHRISTMAS TREE (or so I tried).

You just had to throw the double-whammy at me! Shabby and circles?! I'm going to have to think about this one... and I'm definitely hitting up Google!

I had a horribly hard time with this one. I ended up taking one completely apart and starting over. I ended up with two very similar to each other:
Pooh Bear
Sweet on You

Fun, fun, fun! I always enjoy the Verve sketch challenges very much! I hadn't done shabby chic in a while and it's a style I love to do, so here's my version of it:

Ok, I really liked this sketch! However on adding the shabby twist? EPIC FAIL!! Houndstooth was the wrong choice for shabby. At least i sponged some edges--does that count? This was also my card for being the STampin' Sisters in Christ Guest Designer for this week. Julee is donating an Everlasting Life stamp set to a lucky participant! check it out!!

My very pale card looks a bit out of place in the gallery. All the examples of furniture I checked out were pale with a little chintz so that is why my card is this way. I would normally go for brighter colours so it was a challenge - thanks Amber.

Shabby Chic is something I never tried before but I like it!! I might have to re-think my dsp supply and add more soft colors! Great challenge Amber, thanks again! Here's my Shabby Chic card.

I hope I met the challenge, and read the directions correctly. I have been busy with a number of things and want to get back to these great challenges. Thank you.

My DH says this reminds him of wallpaper, which is 'grandma's house'... so that means shabby chic... ROFL!
